My 10th is coming up and my husband and I are working on how to set them. I am REALLY torn between two ideas. He has little input but the original idea was the ring, so I think he was surprised I even mentioned the necklace. They're roughly in the same pricerange.

The rubies are a nice deep almost blood red shade, and I love them. They're about 3ish mm rounds. I have had them for damn near 7 years or maybe longer, and I haven't done anything with them since I bought them, except just have them.

So my ideas are either a DBTY style necklace, alternating the rubies with diamonds. I'd need it about 18" long or I'd choke. I am thinking 5 diamonds and 4 rubies (?)....

OR

an Alternating Bezel band like this, with the rubies in the place of the larger stones. So 4 larger rubies and 5 smaller diamonds. I assume it would be about 4mm wide finished?

As most of you know, I rarely wear my stuff, so it's "which would I wear more of the little I wear my stuff." I'd likely wear the ruby band alone or with other bands, not likely with my ering just bec of width. But the necklace I could wear and then with my earrings and with my rings and not have to worry about it. But again, I don't wear necklaces all that often. I don't wear anything all that often. Esp not to work bec it gets scary as hell down here.

What would you think is the best choice?

I love rubies. The necklace is nice but if you don't wear your jewelry often it seems like a waste. Are you really ever going to put it on? I think the ring would would probably see more use, as you could just throw it on by itself. But I'm prejudiced; I don't wear necklaces at all because I hate the feeling of anything around my neck.

I almost never wear my rings. I almost never wear anything. I think the necklace would get SLIGHTLY more wear than the ring?

If you love the rubies, you're going to want to see them. Ring.

Ame those rubies would look so beautiful with your hair.

and it would really set off those pretty little bezel studs of yours....

but I am probably biased, I LOVE and have worn necklaces daily for my entire adult life....

I thought of another thing,,,,, and this is not coming from personal experience....

some ppl who have the DBTY necklace say the culets slightly "poke' them,
and also the stones "flip' sometimes,
so if you could "feel" them when you are wearing the necklace or if the stones "flip" would it bug you?
do you have a chance to try one on before you decide?

For you I choose necklace since they are subjected to almost no wear or risk of damage.

I vote ring cos I would want to see them.... that's why I have tons of rings that I wear all the time and only a handful of earrings and necklaces which I don't wear except on special occasions.... actually most of those are in the bank cos I so seldom wear them.

Both choices are timeless in design. Even if you don't wear them often, they certainly won't go out of fashion. ;-) I voted for the ring. I think a ring takes less effort to wear. Just slip it on. Doesn't matter if you have a collared shirt, round neck, V-neck, turtle neck etc. LOL

:))

A HUGE chunk of my leanings for the necklace goes into this angle. I also rarely wear collared shirts, I basically wear tshirts, camis and cardis every day. I am boring in the wardrobe dept.

If I do a ring, it will get worn on it's own, and SO rarely. Like...a handful of times a year is being generous, because if I wear rings itll be my wedding set.

I have a fakey version of a DBTY because I did want to see if it would poke me and it didn't bother me. I don't wear it often though. It does look a little fake.

Ame, I just can't see alternating rubies and diamonds in the necklace unless it was the Tiffany style with one ruby in the middle and a diamond on each side. I'd much prefer alternating rubies and diamonds on a band.

I am bumping this because my anniversary was last week and at our dinner my husband asked if I made any decisions yet. Since I bought the Kwiat steal a few months ago I am leaning towards the necklace option.

I know I will probably wear neither one very often...but I feel like since I wear my wedding set OR my plain band OR nothing...the necklace might be the better option?

I vote for the necklace based on what you usually wear ring wise. You are like me in that you don't wear a lot of bling in general and re your rings you only wear 1 of 2 options so I wouldn't add another ring to the mix in that case.

A necklace doesn't need to be worn every day to enjoy it and I think a ruby diamond DBTY is a great option. I have a simple diamond DBTY and while I wear it only once every few months I am enjoying it and it is the perfect amount of wearing for me. Enough not to feel like it is a waste. I don't wear any same piece of jewelry every day except for my ER and WBs and a DBTY is a versatile option to have ame. My thoughts anyway.

Happy anniversary!

how about ruby earring jackets?

This is where I am leaning for the exact same reasoning. I think that's what I will likely do. I don't want to get a ring even though that was the original intention of the rubies and have a ring that just sits there getting worn nearly never when I can actually wear my wedding set AND the rubies all at once. I DO want a solitaire bezel necklace at some point but will I wear that ever? Doubt it. At least this I can wear once in a while and see my pretty rubies with my studs and have those go, and then have my wedding set.

Thank you!!! I think you really helped me "visualize" the logic here. I would think I had my mind made up, and then I'd be like "but the ring was the original plan." But in my brain, I kept thinking "but Ill never wear it" and "itll be wider than I really want, if I want a ruby ring I should get smaller rubies..."

I think itll be the necklace.

Since I am supplying the rubies this probably won't work aside from drops. And those are just not me. However I have considered sapphire ones just as a later project lol

i vote bezel necklace! also, I too have heard that the culets can be pokey in a DBTY necklace!

following to see what you choose!
