I''m in Canada too. My bf and I just bought a diamond from Canadian Diamonds Wholesale. 1.007 ct G VS2 AGS000 H&A diamond for $7335CDN. Since we''re in Vancouver, we get to see the diamond in person. They have 30 days return policy. The ppl there are very professional. They sell non-Canadian diamonds as well. I just thought I''ll share my experience with you. We are very happy with our diamond.

Sorry for the late replies

@jan can, went to a B & M yesterday, told them how much i wanted to spend and that i wanted a eyeclean. they said they will bring some in for me to look at in 3 days. So i''ll wait for that and hopefully get some pics of the certificates and post them for you guys to look at. As for cut, i told them round or princess is my favorite.. maybe oval.

@aky, what do you figure you saved doing your business online through the states compared to a B&M? (if you dont mind me asking)

@jgny, that is a very particular look, thanks for the chart. that helps buckets!

@ beezy gal, i''m gonna check out that website right now.what does ags000 mean?

question to all,

whats a better certification, ags or gia?

On the whiteflash site i noticed reports,

"egl"

whats that about?

gia & ags are the premier reporting labs in the US.

egl = european gemological laboratory.

Do a PS search, will yield lots more info.

lol, i forgot about the search thingy. thanks!

hi ivan

AGS000 just mean Ideal light preformance, Ideal Polish, Ideal Symmetry. GIA doesn''t have light performance grading. what they do is, they rate it by looking at it with light hitting the diamond (please correct me if I''m wrong about this

) I was told that AGS is stricter with the cut. After learning so much from this website, I''m glad i got a AGS over GIA. GIA always round up the numbers of the angles and stuff. The numbers of AGS are more accurate for the HCA. (that''s what I feel anyways)

I don''t think you can go wrong with either one. However, I prefer AGS over GIA. That''s my personal reference though. I like how AGS has the light performance grade and like I said, they don''t really round up the numbers as much. I love how the more recent AGS cert has a computerized ASET picture of it.

AGS000 means ideal cut, D, IF

People commonly use it to mean ideal cut, polish, and symmetry, but vendors carefully call those stones triple ideals, not triple zeroes, for exactly that reason

My stone is Triple ideals instead then.. lol

Yesterday i went to another B&M. It''s one of those places that only sells canadian diamonds, and he told me that his diamond purchaser only purchases the best diamonds.. something that he buys 1 in a 100, and that if i buy online i won''t be able to match that discretion.

Question - are there discerning online shops? if so, links please. thanks so much all!

If the shop can back up that statement with anything? ASET image of fancies, princess and rounds with AGS0 cut grade?

Most of the online vendors mentioned before are that discerning on the cuts.

Considering we have vendors on here that go through thousands of lots of rough diamonds, bid on only those with potential to be super ideals, then take their winning lots and sort them, then select a smaller proportion of those to have cut, then select those cut stones that turn out well upon individual scrutiny and brand them-- THEN send them to either GIA or AGS for certification, then get them back and inventory them... I think we have him beat.

As for vendors that do this: Brian at BGD does this and Paul at Infinity does this as well. HPD is one of many Infinity vendors, and Brian sells his own line under his Brian Gavin Signature brands.

The guy is trying to make a sale.

Ivan, speaking from experience, I''d go with a US online company. Check out a few PriceScrope dealers. Start with the one that has a setting that you like. Imo, it''s easier to get them both in the same place especially with having to go through customs twice if you want to check the diamond and then send to a different place for setting. You also know that the diamond won''t be harmed by another setter.

Then choose a diamond or two that meets your budget and ask the pros here to evaluate. They''ll give you good advice!

Also consider a dealer than allows you to upgrade in the future.
