1. Step cut diamonds
2. Platinum
3. Heart and Arrow diamonds
4. Yellow gold
5. OEC or OMC with big open culet
6. Dark (mean near black) blue sapphires

And you???

inky colored sapphires
Fake Rolex watches
Black hill gold (friends dont let friends wear black hills gold)
reconstituted turquoise
commercial grade cut diamonds(very thick girdles, large culets,70%tables ect)

What''s not to love? I don''t like things that are ugly but I can find examples of almost anything that are beautiful.

poorly made and/or painfully overpriced goods of any sort.

stci I like all six of your points very much (the overly dark sapphires and garnets are generally my favourites)

it really does take all sorts!

I know I don''t like...

White gold because I''ve become allergic to nickel.

Pointed shapes (princess, marquise, pears) - just not my style!

A few months ago - before I really became involved with Pricescope I would have been able to answer this question easily. However, my tastes have really broadened lately - for example I never used to like non-white gold, now I have both yellow and rose gold bands.
I''m not as big a fan of marquise shaped diamonds as of other shapes - that I know. I''m also not a fan of non-faceted gemstones (i.e., star sapphires and the like) or really dark stones.

Stones I can break too easily in rings. DH wanted me to have an opal engagement ring. HAHAHA

Costume jewelry.. I know it''s crazy, but I don''t own any. I can''t bring myself to wear it anymore.

+1 This has caused arguments with DH, as he loves anything old and thinks I''ll like costume stuff. But it tarnishes so fast!

Too much milgrain and poorly done milgrain. I love real deco pieces because milgrain is used as an accent. Usually it''s not everywhere on a piece, just in a few discreet areas and it adds a gorgeous punch when it is used that way. When a piece is overly milgrained (especially if it is not straight or crisp) it just isn''t my thing. I love those pieces where just the inside of bezel is milgrained though. I don''t have any milgrain now, but if I ever get any... that''s what it is going to be. Maybe in rose gold. YUM.

1. Low carat yellow gold.
2. Marquise and pear cut diamonds (although i''ve seen some which are the exception to the rule).
3. Beautiful, big, white, high clarity diamonds, set in bezels.
4. Replicas and fakes.

This is actually quite a tough question!

Prior to finding you all I would have had quite along list. However, I have now experienced so many different styles on here that it has opened up all my boundaries as to what I now perceive as beautiful.

Previously I would not have looked twice at step cuts or any type of square or rectangle stones, they just didn''t appeal to me as I always thought I was a RB girl.

Now that is totally not true. I am seeking them out. I just adore them now. I obviously hadn''t seen good examples before PS.

Anyway here is my much reduced list.

1. Cheap CZ jewellery.
2. Cabochon stones. I am prepared to eat my hat over this one. As above I probably haven''t seen any good ones! lol
3. Poor quality anything in jewellery.

Blue-black sapphires set in yellow gold. I kind of like them in platinum or WG
black diamonds
marquise cut
pear sidestones
heart shaped anything
white and yellow gold together
And personally round cut diamonds don''t appeal to me (I love asschers) but they are pretty to look at.
Champagne diamonds that just look brown
dangley earrings, because they always snag in my hair
cluster rings

Anything fake
Anything poor quality

Otherwise I appreciate it all...even if it is not something I would wear I think jewels are beautiful to look at and appreciate. Like a work of art.

Poorly executed bezels
Huuuuge prongs that say....PRONG!!!
Clunky pavé
Anything under 14 karat gold, prefer 18k and up
hollow gold chains - feels like you''re wearing air
bracelets - pretty but they get in my way since I''m on the computer all day.
Maul stores
Jewelry salesmen (see above) - they are frequently like sleazy used car dealers, trying to steer you to the clunkers they want to unload
And like any PS''er worth her salt, I despise poorly cut diamonds. (see above and above)

Another one whose tastes have broadened after seeing some glorious jewels here.

My list would only consist of:

black diamonds (why???)
marquise cut (I have seen some nice marquises here, but I still wouldn''t want one)

I''d never own black diamonds. I just don''t see the point.

I don''t like emeralds, even though we got married in May. I just don''t like them.

No costume jewelry- period. I haven''t worn anything costume in seventeen or eighteen years, and now I have no need to. I own too much of a selection of the real thing in every category.

Not traditionally cut black diamonds no. But they have their place. I have seen some multiple strand necklaces of black diamonds cut into tiny rondelles that are stunning. I also recently saw one of my local jewelry store (NOT a maul store!) saleswomen, wearing large hoops with tiny raw, non-white diamonds dangling along the bottom 1/3rd of the hoop. She called them her "sugar crystal earrings" and I threatened to steal them.

Again, high-end, creative, and quite gorgeous.

I used to think that about black diamonds. But if you were to see some really nice black diamonds in the right setting (typically best when intermixed with white diamonds), you very well might eat your words. I used to have a black/white diamond bracelet. Those black suckers truely sparkled! I had never before realized that black diamonds can sparkle. Geez, now I feel sad that I don''t have it anymore.

Man, I haven''t thought about that in a while....

Anywho - my personal dislikes are:
Poor quality emeralds/rubies (well, poor quality anything, really)
Those lovely lab created sapphires, emeralds, and rubies
Rose/cabachon cuts
Anything that''s dirty
Extremely high set center stones
Rings that are way too tight and give you a ''fat roll'' on your finger

Fake watches
Light or flimsy settings
Silver
East west diamond settings [my fingers look fatter!]
low karat Y/gold
costume jewelry

SO true Jof, love black diamond charms! I tried a huge 'rose ring' in Vegas not long ago, it was loaded with tiny black/white diamonds [13k]!
18.gif
black diamond as a center stone big nay.

After lurking in the jewelry threads for so long here I can honestly say that my tastes have also broadened immensely. There are many things I would not want to wear, myself, but I can still appreciate them in well crafted jewelry.

The only thing I still dislike is a marquise stone set north/south. For some reason, the points just look dangerous and uncomfortable to me!

I like nearly everything, or at the very least I can find beauty in it...

One thing I really don''t like is... (I know i''m gonna catch flack for this)- RUBIES!

I just don''t care for the color or overall look of them! Of course, there are a few that look nice, but for the most part they just don''t do anything for me.

I would also add huge prongs - forgot about that one.. and, for the most part, black diamonds too

No flack here. I''m with ya. I can admire them on others, but I wouldn''t want any. I like pinky shades of red better. And I don''t like emeralds either. But then I''ve never been a fan of that shade of green in anything.

I'm not a big fan of rubies or emeralds either. The darker ones sometimes tend to look a little lifeless. (ETA: I find this more in the man made stones sometimes)

I do love a well executed garnet though. I think it's... Pandora's ring that's a garnet? Well, forgive me if that's not the right user I'm thinking of but I LOVE that stone and the setting is lovely.

Marquise and heart shaped diamonds

Blue Topaz

Heavy prongs

Sapphires that are black

Lab created stones

white gold
prongs
Dark sapphires
Included rubies
Anything that sits higher then 4mm ish off the finger
Anything with hearts- heart shaped diamonds, gold heart rings, anything!
Pave and micropave - they're pretty, but I've owned them and I lost stones on a very regular basis (which is why I don't own them anymore
18.gif
)
Huge diamonds - I feel that anything under 2 carats is pretty and classy. Over that is just gaudy - this is also quite area specific as most people in my area have .5 carat or so diamonds (does not apply to emerald and asscher cuts
9.gif
)

It really gets to me when people don't take care of their jewelry. My cowoker has a 1.5 carat diamond, guessing it cost them AT LEAST 10k (maul store) and she never, ever, ever, cleans it

Come on--it isn''t that hard to state your opinion without calling names, is it?

I was worried this thread might take a nasty turn if posters didn''t mind their manners.

Anything above 2 carats is...

Gaudy??? Not true at all! I''d LOVE to have a 3ct cushion! Yum... Heck, even a 5 or 6 carat.

Gosh, whatever happened to...
Respecting diversity...
If you can't say anything nice...
To each his own...

I can't believe this thread exists on PS, which has a culture of being sooooooooooooooooo PC and nice I was starting to think you were all Stepford wives.
Anything one person does not like could be the next poster's favorite.
They could even accuse you of being a snob for not liking this or that ... but since you asked ... and the thread has not been deleted yet ...

Diamond not eye clean or yellow or brown in color.

Poorly-cut diamonds are my #1 pet peeve; they are like a car made square wheels because the square shape saves more of the rubber, or fit better in a shipping container.
Talk about putting the cart before the horse. A wheel should roll and a diamond should handle light well.

Any diamond that is dirty - Designs that are impossible to keep diamonds clean in, like eternity rings

Melee Rings that are so thin they look like they'd bend if you shook the person's hand, to me form should follow function

Marquise diamond set east west looks like a cyclops eye staring at you

Pavé, shudder, it reminds me of Liberace

Men's rings that have dollar signs or otherwise look like something a pimp would wear

Any men's rings worn on the pinkie

More than one earring in an ear

Designs (at ANY price) that try to look more expensive than they are, halos or 4 tiny princess cuts mounted to look like one large one - I'd rather proudly wear one nicely cut small, low color, low clarity solitaire of the same budget

Diamonds in dental grilles, sorry I know it is just a style but anything inside the mouth freaks me out, including pierced tongues

Busy, overly intricate diamond settings with a zillion diamonds everywhere in every conceivable nook and cranny with extra nooks and crannies added for extra diamonds to hide in and surprise diamonds hiding behind other surprise diamonds, with tiny diamonds lining all three sides of every prong the main diamond which can't be very good because there isn't much budget left over for the main diamond; some even have a row of melee next to the skin - all I think when I see them is how they could have put all that money towards a nicer main diamond, oh and how that ring is going to spend 99.99999% of it's life encrusted in gunk.
I like a max of two side stones hugging the main stone.

But, to each his or her own.
