hi everyone...

I have been searching recuts on this sight and have came across a few so I'm not sure if I'm searching properly. So I thought I would start a thread to get them all in one place.

I would love to see before and after images of your re-cut diamonds as I will be getting a re-cut to mine after Christmas.

It is very daunting to send your diamond away for such a long time not knowing how it will turn out so some much needed encourangement would be greatly appreciated from those of you who have sent your diamond off for some cosmetic surgery.

Here is the link to my story:

What was your reason for getting a re-cut? Was the weight loss worth the re-cut visuals?

Can't wait to see these.............

I'm sure some will stop in to show your before and after pictures - some of them are simply amazing!

Do you have pictures of your current stone?

hi MissGotRocks....I will take some pictures and post them once I finish work.

Kelpie...your story is so reassuring and great to see such positive results.

Mine is going to Brian Gavin and he obviously needs to assess my diamond to see if it is possible for it to even be re-cut. Do you or anyone else know why a diamond wouldn't be a candidate for re-cutting?

I don't have experience with a recut but I was following your story in the other thread so I can't wait for the end results! :)

Although, I did have a diamond set in a bezel pendant that I wanted recut by a local diamond cutter, and they recommended it's not worth it for something that will be used in a pendant like that, plus it wasn't all that big anyways (about 0.5 carats). They said to keep it as is and just enjoy it, rather than analyzing it to death. Wise words :)

I'm sure a stone of your size would be no problem to recut - the question will be how much weight or size you will lose. Brian has done some astonishing recuts though with minimal loss.

Inclusions can also limit a recut if they are of a type that if exposed through cutting could affect the diamond's integrity.

I hope your owrks out and doed not dip below an important weight marker!

Yes, depending on where the inclusion is located, a feather in particular might cause a problem with a re-cut.

TC1987.....thanks for posting that story...that diamond has amazing results!! This is so encouraging. I just hope that my diamond is a candidate and that there isn't too much weight loss.

There is an inclusion just under the table in my diamond. I will try to post some pictures as I didn't get a chance last night after finishing work at 11pm.

I will try ot do this today at some stage.

So feathers can cause problems in re-cuts? My inclusion is a carbon spot...I don't know if this is better or worse for a re-cut. But for me I can't see the inclusion unless the diamond is about 6" from my eyes and even at that I have to search. Whereas when I was looking for SI1/SI2 diamonds I could spot the feathers from the jewelers desk. I would have to give it to my SO ...as if this is re-cut is a sucess I will have my perfect diamond...I love the colour and the clarity. We'll see what happens..

diamondseeker2006....gorgeous result and I absolutely love the bezel pendant!!! I can't believe the ASET images of the before diamond....

I have only ever really shopped for GIA ex ex ex stones and AGS 000 and haven't really seen not so well cut stones with images like these other than a few stores in the diamond district but with no cert and no ASET you don't know the details of the diamonds to compare to certified stones in the next shop.
With that in mind did you find the 'sparkle' of your stone change much?

It doesn't even compare to how it was before. I had a perfect hearts and arrows diamond ring, so I knew the family diamond was a dud. I am sure to the average person who knows nothing, it was pretty in the ring. My mother certainly didn't know to question the cut. But in the past, it was uncommon to buy ordinary diamonds that were certified. Her grandmother went to a jewelry store one day and bought the stone. Same as when we got my original diamond 35 years ago...none had grading certificates. We bought the one that looked the best, but there really weren't precision cuts back then, anyway. So most older diamonds probably would benefit from a recut. And new ones that are not ideal/excellent cut may benefit as well. If I had a three carat stone, I would definitely recut because I'd rather have a better cut 2.5-2.8 ct. stone than a good cut 3 ct. Brian does not guarantee that the stone will meet ideal cut or hearts and arrows. But I haven't seen a stone yet that wasn't improved. I'll be interested to see what happens with yours!

diamondseeker2006....that is my diamonds only downfall that it does not have the arrows pattern that I really wanted. As I said earlier the colour is great and the clarity also.....when I study the diamond I can see major flaws in the cut...the pattern is different the whole way round the stone. I really also think this diamond is deep so I'm also hoping that the majority of the weight loss will be on the underside and the width of the stone won't be compromised too much. It's all about the spread!! again, thank you for sharing your story and I am finding this all very positive.
