Im still a little bit shocked but i just got home from the gym - - went to take off my rings to have a shower - - -(1 x 3/4 shared prong 2.5ctw, stacked with 2 x bead set eternities .40ctw) and 3 stones and the section of the setting which held the stones (about 1/3 inch) is missing from my shared prong.

How did this happen?? Not just the stones are missing but an entire section of the ring

I had a shower before the gym so know that the ring wasnt broken before i went (i also only did a class at the gym - - -all i did was clap my hands alot)

Ive had a really close look at the ring and there are cracks to the underside of the ring all the way around.

My ring isnt even 3 years old.

I had the setting tightened before Christmas would this have weakened the setting?

A whole chunk of metal is missing?!? WTF? I have no explanation for such a thing, I only offer condolences!! Is your ring insured? I hope it won''t be too much of a hassle to get it fixed/replaced.

I was at a football game right after I was engaged and clapped A LOT during the game. I lost several small diamonds in the setting and managed to deform my platinum e-ring. The jeweler repaired the ring and reset new stones in at no cost but I was very disappointed. I would call whom ever you purchased the setting from immediately and find out what their policy is regarding this. Also, go back to the gym and look around on the ground in the room that you were in, you may find the missing portion of ring.

Were you wearing a ring on your other hand that maybe was hammering your left hand ring set w/each clap? Metal can do a lot of damage to other metal -- and diamond to diamond. When''s the last time you had the set inspected at the jeweler (recommended every 6 months - though I haven''t kept up w/that exactly

)? Could the ring have been damaged a bit with some other knock & just gave way with all the clapping -- so the clapping wasn''t the CAUSE of the initial damage?

Sorry that happened! I guess taking it to your jeweler to assess is the next step.

Is your ring made out of Palladium?

Hmm, not sure how that would happen. I would be really upset myself. I hope your ring is covered under a warranty.

So sorry to hear about your ring. Here is another thread Link where damage was done to the ring from clapping.

Can you post some pictures of the damaged ring?

Who knew clapping could cause damage!?!

I'm so sorry this happened. I never wear my rings to the gym because I am afraid of such things.

What in the world...?

I''m so sorry - that''s terrible! Ditto calling your jeweller/insurance right away. I hope you can get this fixed soon!

Im at work at the moment so cant post any pics but will put some up tonight

Im off to my NEW jeweller this morning to find out about fixing the ring.

Now the question is do i get him to repair it so that its the same or do i get him to do a total redesign and have something totally different?

Cakegirl recently posted her new Garland eternity from Bluenile https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-bands-should-i-stack-with-this-ring.130249/ - - i wonder how hard it would be to use the 13 stones that i have and add some smaller ones to recreate this look?

I loved having this ring as part of a stack so would want the new ring to be able to stack also.

Any suggestions would be enormously appreciated

Is palladium known to crack?

My ring was made from 14kt white gold so no not palladium

Anyway, ive just gotten back from my jeweller and he says that the damage probably occurred when I had my ring resized (2.5 years ago).
He said that resizing the ring has put stress on the setting (which was too thin to start with), then getting the setting tightened has put more stress on the settting(like a rubber band before it snaps). And my clapping at the gym has caused the setting to fail.

He said that a piece of the setting has come away because the gold has failed in one spot but when the ring has sprung open at that spot, it has then cracked the setting elsewhere (like when you open a door it hinges on the other side)

So ive asked him to give me 2 quotes. One to reset the stones into a full eternity (like my damaged setting by a full eternity) and one to reset my remaining stones with some 2 pointers into a similar design to the BlueNile garland.

I have always loved the classic look of the eternity ring but like that the garland style is unusual (and maybe a has a bit more sparkle)

Glad to hear that you are moving ahead with fixing your ring.

Just a suggestion that you don''t wear your diamond rings to the gym. I have a plain gold wedding band that I wear for that purpose.

Good luck with the repairs.

So sorry this happened but glad to hear that there is a reasonable explanation. Good luck on the reset and post pics when completed.
