sba, you mean there aren''t any Mexican restaurants in Germany?! How''s that possible?Date: 5/28/2009 5:28:23 AM

I am an east coast Jew and can honestly eat bagels and lox 3 times a day. That is why being in Germany has been so hard. Also I happen to love Mexican food since I stopped keeping kosher and I also cannot get that here. I should open a taco bell, I would get rich...and probably fat

Oh, that sucks. I feel your pain-when I was in Egypt I fell in love with one of their flat loafs with spices. When I came back to Sofia, I found a place where they made it but it just wasn''t the same. I guess I''ll just have to visit Egypt again, poor me.Date: 5/28/2009 5:51:23 AM

I live in Frankfurt and there are 2...their versions of nachos are ''american doritos'' (which are cool ranch doritos) covered in weird cheese. It just doesn''t really feel the same or take care of the cravings...just 1 more year to go!

Awww, what''s with all the hatin'' on German food? I was raised in Munich, and Brötchen, Brezen, Wurst, Schnitzel and Spezi (and so on and so forth!) are some of my favorite foods on the planet! Nobody but nobody makes a pretzel like the Germans. Not the Amish (who are German in ancestry anyway), not ''Aunt Annie''s'' sad and pathetic mall kiosk. Not ANYBODY! I love Mexican food (red snapper tacos, anybody? droool) and Italian food and sushi/Japanese (I love squid salad) and Thai and American, but let us not forget German Wienerschnitzel and fried potatoes, people! Veal never died for a worthier cause. Mmmm. Vealicious.
That''s it, I need a plane ticket.

Thanks for giving me a SERIOUS craving for lox and a bagel. Argghh there is only one place in my town to get it, and its only marginal.
I am of no particular ethnicity, but all my fave foods are ''ethnic''....sushi, Thai, Indian, Greek, Mexican. I live in the Southeast, and I like southern food as well but am a vegetarian, so there aren''t a lot of choices! I have no idea how I ended up with the tastes I have, since most people around here think I am weird for being a vegetarian and ethnic foods aren''t that popular. Maybe I should move...
Wiener Schnitzel = Schnitzel from Wien. Wien = Vienna. Vienna = fabulous city in Austria. So, yeah, it''s Austrian. Being''s that you can ski (or jump, drive, mosey) into Austria from Germany without any hassle, though, I guess the cultures ended up mixing a tidge.Date: 5/28/2009 5:30:24 PM

Taco Bell is NOT Mexican food...!! It''s Mexerican...but yeah it can be good from time to time!
Speaking of German food, the last few times I have been to Germany I LOVE LOVE LOVE their food. It is not like what we Americans eat here that passes for German food. It''s way more fresh tasting, with less sauces, and some of it can rival the best restaurants I have eaten at in SF. The last time I was there I had an amazing roasted chicken and frites in a WORK CAFETERIA no less. Roasted chicken tasted as good as some of the five star restaurants. AND I had these amazing German meatballs and mashed potatoes in a lemon caper sauce...I came home and googled and found some old family recipe and made them for a dinner party and peeps here loved them to no end. I wrote my German counterparts asking for their family recipes after that.![]()
But yeah, German food in Germany not like American German IMO. And they told me that Schnitzel is more Austrian, btw.

ITA! I have yet to find a place outside of France that makes a really great croissant. And I absolutely ADORE Nutella crepes. Adore them. Ate 2 or 3 a day (on top of the croissants) when I was in Paris. Yummy oooey goooey deliciousness.Date: 5/29/2009 12:51:50 AM

sba...while i do love german pastries and eat my fair share on my visits there.....imo NOTHING beats a fresh parisian chocolate croissant...so light and flaky. omg i am drooling just thinking of it. i would have 2-3x a day in paris hahaha.
though one of my friends just got back from spain and said their pastries there were better than paris. now we HAVE to go.
I didn''t have those there. I was up north in the Basque country, though, so that could be why. Cuisine was just a little bit different up there, lol. Food was very different in Madrid and Barcelona than it was in Bilbao.Date: 5/29/2009 11:25:00 AM
