If restaurants reopens in May would you be too afraid to eat out?

And don't get me started on the salads. I've lost count of the times I've read the list of ingredients in a salad and thought how delicious it sounds, only to find when it arrives that it's an enormous pile of greens with a tiny smattering of said ingredients. In other words, the salad is 90% greens.

No wonder I prefer to eat at home!
 
I won’t be eating out again for a very long time. I’m kind of afraid of spite spit too, so no carry out either.
 
I wonder longer term how sustainable the restaurant business is due to them operating at 50% capacity on already thin margins...will definitely see the industry pivoting...
 
I still feel safer eating out than getting a haircut, getting my nails done or any going to any other physical contact business. So yes.
 
No, I won't eat out or get carryout until there is a vaccine, a reasonably effective treatment, or we somehow manage to get it anyway despite all our best efforts to not get it and have fully recovered and therefore have some immunity.
 
I’m still not ready for an indoor family dinner! Lol
Definitely nothing prolonged indoors with strangers, wait staff or customers, for me for a long.
 
I won't eat in a restaurant but there are small local places that I will continue to support via take out. They really do a good job with no contact. last night we did mediterranean (family style) which will last us several days. The food is good and fresh.

Most wouldn’t of course. But after I saw the widely-circulated video of an Amazon delivery guy spitting on the package he was delivering I realized there are some people who are very angry about having to work during the pandemic (and probably rightfully so). Some will take it out on customers. The germaphobe in me thinks about these possibilities :lol:
 
I also just finished watching season 10 of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” on HBO and there’s an episode about a waitress who...well...you don’t want to know! Lol!

I love Larry David in that show.
 
The industry people I know really want their establishments to survive. Restaurants tend to become families and for most people working in them now, this is unheard of. Places don’t shut down, even during blizzards and power outages. There is always a remote chance someone somewhere might be an @sshole, but I spent many many many years as a server/bartender/manager in MULTIPLE restaurants and never once witnessed that or even close to it. People didn’t even joke about it. If it makes you feel any better!

Wow. Most of the buffets that I know of have no plans to reopen! They have to change their entire format from buffet to sit down.

And it’s one of those all-you-can-eat places... specializing in low prices. Ugh. Asking for trouble.
 
I never ate at buffets before the pandemic! “But there are sneeze guards!”

I love buffets! I miss buffets. They will probably never have buffets again. I miss them so much!

I went to a buffet Mid March (hehe at a hotel with all the international travellers) because I had a hunch things might never be the same again. I am so happy I went! Who knew it would be the last buffet ever!
 
In Germany a restaurant had a private pre-opening party as soon in as it was legal ( up to 50 people allowed in that county, they had 40 due to size).

One guest had Covid, he infected 14 at the party, 4 more were subsequently infected by party goers before it came out.

One lady is a board member of of a big shipyard and attended several meetings - she sent 180 people into isolation, who are awaiting testing /results.

So yeah, I'm not about to change my answer from page 1 anytime soon

See, this is exactly what people need to be hearing about. Here in a lot of the US, it's all, "The party's on, guys!" I had to turn down social invitations from a couple people this weekend who KNOW we are high-risk and need to take this very seriously and who have very high-risk family members themselves.

Well I’m gonna have to change my mind, at least for now. I have to agree with you—it’s madness right now Bc every restaurant that we saw serving dine-in was packed! We were literally too afraid to make our way down Main Street to get to the restaurants by the beach Bc people were packed liked sardines—wearing no masks— as they walked to the restaurants...so we just enjoyed the drive.

I also noticed lots of my Acquaintances are intent on flaunting their escapades on IG! Visits to casinos, play dates, pool parties, road trips to neighboring states—as if to show the world they are fearless.

Since my pharmacy is located inside a clinic, I run the risk of being exposed to anything and everything every single day, and have been since... well, forever. We were never given plexi-glass shields or protective gear/guards of any type... but I'm not scared. Not in the least. We've been out to dinner twice since bans were lifted, and we'll continue to do so without fear.

Like FDR said...The greatest fear is fear itself!. I can't wait for the restaurants in our area to reopen. .. :clap: I went to pick up some to go order for lunch today. The owner said none of his waitresses are willing to work b/c EDD benefits pay them more $$$ to stay at home than working.
 
DF, I'm sorry you see this risk-taking as fear.
But people vary, and I see it as wisdom.

So, it must be fear that prevents you walking off a cliff.

Yes, that would guarantee death unlike this virus. As I said before on a Covid 19 fear scale of 1-10 I'm at 5.
 
There’s a big difference between needless fear and a healthy sense of self-preservation.
I believe my avoidance of restaurants is due to the latter!
 
@SallyB I know people who work as waiters and waitresses at restaurants, and not one of them is resentful for having to work. To be honest, they're all hoping that work picks up. I mean, it's not impossible that a worker would spit in your food, but unless you're getting all your food delivered to you by GrubHub, I think odds are that if your food gets spat on in a restaurant, it's for reasons other than the unwillingness to work.
 
Everyone should eat what/where they’re comfortable eating. I’ve worked in restaurants though, so I know what goes on when the patrons aren’t looking.

I also worked in an ice cream shop in college. I avoid those even in the best of times now - lol!

If others choose to stay home or continue to take whatever precautions are necessary for them to feel safer (for whatever reason), I completely understand, as that is their right. That’s freedom.
