But The Charlottesville thing did get me to visit the ACLU and the SPLC websites today, thinking about where to give. I bought my niece a T-shirt with a Spanish slogan in the SPLC shop then donated there. I am an ACLU member, apparently, and I am constantly bombarded by SPLC mailings...but that may be because they are my charity of choice for Amazon Books. Now with that, I'm going to probably offend some folk;

Legally, even if you're a white supremacist, in this country you have a right to speak freely. You have a right to assemble freely within the confines of the law. All people have that right even if you've been labeled a terrorist, you have a right to speak freely in this country.

What you don't have is a right from repercussions of that free speech. Your words depending on how you say it can get you put in jail. it can and will get you on a terror list depending on how bad it is. It can and will get you put on someone's list to blackball, depending on who that person is.

Personally I don't give a crap who it is, man, woman, whatever, your rights ends where mine begin. Both the far left and the far right seem to ignore this.

Its sad that this happening in our country, but not unexpected.

This is the blowback we get for electing a black man for 8 years, THEN trying to actually elect a woman. And that my friends, is the saddest realization of all.

Another side of it - many of these folks are either unemployed, or hovering at the edge of unemployment. They live in poor neighborhoods. These are white lumpens, and how does one feel better about himself if he is poor and living in a crappy neighborhood? By putting down someone who is doing worse than him - and these are usually black folks, who live in crappier neighborhoods, are poorer and in general, totally disenfranchised.

Seriously, this book is a must read for, well, anyone. "Angry White Men: American Masculinity at The End of an Era" by Michael Kimmel. He interviewed dozens of these guys. And the phrase that keeps popping up in his work, is "aggrieved entitlement".

Of course, the solution is quite a bit more difficult than describing the problem. Men especially, seem to have a highly competitive need for status, and an intense affinity for hierarchy, that expresses violently. It's probably in the genes and seems perennially impervious to pleas for reason or compassion. And it's why I personally have long thought that we're going to inflict near infinite levels of suffering on ourselves in the process of trying hard to send ourselves back to the stone age. I'm looking at my likely shortened life due to health issues, as a blessing. That's me being cheerful and positive and all. Maybe I'll miss the worst of it. Maybe. Things do seem to be getting nuttier rather more quickly these days.

I can suspect a couple of psychiatric conditions at play. But I want to ask people - am I the only one who strongly suspects that some of these white supremacy rally participants look as if they were on meth, or some stimulant? When Trump decided that the the two sides were equally to blame, did he take into consideration that one side was represented by an out of state Nazi (aka an outside agitator) who came in from another state and committed murder and the other was represented by a native of Charlottesville who had a right to defend her own land peacefully (no weapons were found on her) and was a murder victim?

And even if she had been armed, since when can't people stand their ground on their own turf against outside marauders? Virginia is an open carry state. She could have been armed. Legally. As long as her weapon wasn't concealed. And had she seen the car coming, she could have shot the driver. That would have been violence! And justified violence, too.

I wonder if Trump would be happy to see his Nazis shot by some women who shoot well. Virginia is full of them.

I contacted my congressman this morning. An intern answered the phone as soon as I started talking he stated he was an intern and asked if I read the congressman tweets over the weekend. He read the tweets to me. I stated very clearly that Trump needs to be removed from office. When I asked if they were receiving calls about Trumps remarks his comment was that 99% of calls the past few days are people feeling exactly the way I do and the phones have been extremely busy. I have been looking for the video, perhaps it is of this man, who says that if Trump felt about race the way that he does that he couldn't have given his beautiful daughter to that Jew, Jared Kushner, and how it disgusts him to see her with Kushner.
