If polo shirts were outlawed, the Charlottesville protest would have died at conception.

@House Cat I talked to my parents about that this weekend. And some of the stories they told...makes your hair raise up on end. I don't like tiki torches anyway for other reasons but yeah I don't think I'm going to be buying any in the foreseeable future.

One of America's most prominent black CEOs quit President Trump's manufacturing council on Monday over Trump's failure to condemn white supremacists.

Kenneth Frazier of Merck said in a statement: "America's leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy."

Within minutes, Trump attacked him on Twitter, saying Frazier's resignation will give him "more time to LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!"

Frazier did not mention the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, in his statement, but he did say that "as a matter of personal conscience, I feel a responsibility to take a stand against intolerance and extremism."

That appeared to be a reference to Trump's statement over the weekend blaming violence "on many sides" after neo-Nazis and white nationalists clashed with counter-protesters.

Frazier is one of the country's most prominent black corporate executives and was the only black male CEO named to the council in January.

His exit marks another rebuke to Trump from corporate America. Trump's June 1 decision to leave the Paris climate accord led Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk to step down from the manufacturing panel as well as a separate business advisory council.

Disney (DIS) CEO Bob Iger similarly quit the business advisory council, and Goldman Sachs (GS)CEO Lloyd Blankfein used his first-ever tweet to slam Trump's Paris decision.

Frazier appeared at the White House just last month to promote an agreement between Merck, Pfizer (PFE) and Corning (GLW) to create 1,000 jobs.

Trump formed the manufacturing council a week after his inauguration as part of a push to create jobs. At the time, the White House hailed the council, including Frazier, as "some of the world's most successful and creative business leaders."

At the group's first meeting in January, Trump shook Frazier's hand after the CEO talked up efforts to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. for a cancer drug.

"That's very good," Trump said at the time.

Wall Street seemed unfazed by Trump's attack. A fund that represents biotech stocks climbed 1% on Monday morning. Trump has in the past caused drug stocks to drop by threatening to bring prices "way down."

Of course you came back to specify that women were also in power when wars were waged. LOL

Tell me which women in positions of power called for war, began wars, asked for wars, etc.

Thanks.

And if you want to further debate the fact that men arent a bunch of ****faces who fight over nothing more than their own penis' size? Let's talk. I'm interested to hear your side of that point.

I'm 100% sure that women have always been able to work out their village population getting fed. Without the assistance of dudes, and in my opinion they didn't need a damn thing from men until they were convinced otherwise.

I don't hate men. In fact, I love many of them! But they need to be kept in line. o_O

Well off the top of my head @monarch64;
1. Indira Gandhi and Pakistan
2. Golda Meir and The Yom Yippur War
3. Margaret Thatcher and the Falklanks War

I'm not going to debate or quote all of women rulers history with you @monarch64, it stands on it's own. You have your feelings toward "men" being the root if all evil. Whatevs...have a good day.

I agree, men declar the vast majority of war given they are the ones in power. I get it. The point I was making is that women are also capable and did incite war under their rule. But because I'm not making reference to penis size or men's "flexing nuts" mentality doesn't mean I have to defend not doing so. Was this only to be a man bashing thread? I also see women in the OP's photo above sadly. I get the impression you think I am defending this behavior. In no uncertain terms I am not!

@Bonfire I can get what you're saying. Its not a man issue per se, but a people issue.

Now with that, I'm going to probably offend some folk;

Legally, even if you're a white supremacist, in this country you have a right to speak freely. You have a right to assemble freely within the confines of the law. All people have that right even if you've been labeled a terrorist, you have a right to speak freely in this country.

What you don't have is a right from repercussions of that free speech. Your words depending on how you say it can get you put in jail. it can and will get you on a terror list depending on how bad it is. It can and will get you put on someone's list to blackball, depending on who that person is.

Personally I don't give a crap who it is, man, woman, whatever, your rights ends where mine begin. Both the far left and the far right seem to ignore this.

Its sad that this happening in our country, but not unexpected.

This is the blowback we get for electing a black man for 8 years, THEN trying to actually elect a woman. And that my friends, is the saddest realization of all.

I'm not sure whom you thought you would offend, perhaps the irrational contingent?

Thankfully, there are limits to free speech. See the section on "fighting words" and related Supreme Court decisions. From my perspective, the purpose of the neo-Nazi protest in Charlottesville was to incite and their words were directed toward the anti-Nazis. https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/95-815.pdf

I am happy to see that repercussions are occurring:

I was also wondering about Joan of Arc and Cleopatra, but history really isn't my strong suit lol

My dad fought this regime.

Somewhere in my attic are photos my father brought back of the Liberation of Paris. (He was there as an American soldier.)

My husband's family has very interesting photos taken during the occupation northern France by the German Army. They lived through that hiding in plain sight. My sister-in-law is pictured in one photo with a little French girl of the same age (about five years old). Each is in the arms of a German soldier. The soldiers, of course, did not know she was a Jew.

@AGBF Because I'm a "Common Sense Libertarian".:eek2::mrgreen2: But even with that, some people do not like those that will say things against their belief system. Girl they freak out. In my case I do so for dialogue. I may not agree with you, and you may not agree with me (general you and me of course), but there can still be some commonality there with open and respectful discussion. All sides can learn from that type of civilized debate instead of the stuff going on at the upper levels of our societal seat. I'm sure people (mostly) know I'm all about that.

@Matata groups like that should be listed as Terrorist groups. While I frankly want to know what kind of idiot I'm dealing with, there's also a time and place for that. They should not be able to freely assemble and spew that type of trash. Now FWIW, I think there's a few groups that start with B whom should also join those ranks and while I'm at it, lets throw in Scientology and a few so called Christian groups. Because frankly, they are no better. And that Orange thang in the oval office is not helping matters. All the polarizing rhetoric from all sizes has further fractured this country.

These are the same people that want to call out Muslim terror groups for doing what they do, but have no problems doing the same damn thing. I got some words for that but, this is polite company.;)2

I found these!

I suddenly had an idea of where these might be...and they were there. Now I just have to find a way to post them. I have a camera, but do not know how to use it and a scanner that is not hooked up. Years ago I could scan and take photos of other photos. Now I have to figure out how to share these photos!

Indeed! She was kickass! But she was invaded by King Phillips II of Spain. She settleed things once and for all!
She was one of the most powerful women in history! :appl:

Okay, let's all be grateful for parents who show that sometimes the nut DOES fall far from the tree:

http://www.businessinsider.com/charlottesville-virginia-white-nationalist-pete-tefft-pearce-2017-8

'The father of a North Dakota man who marched in a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., this weekend has denounced his son's behavior, saying "he is not welcome at our family gatherings any longer."

"I, along with all of his siblings and his entire family, wish to loudly repudiate my son’s vile, hateful, and racist rhetoric and actions," Pearce Tefft, father of Peter Tefft, wrote in a letter to the Fargo newspaper The Forum. "We do not know specifically where he learned these beliefs. He did not learn them at home." '

ETA: one less basement to live in!

I read a Newsweek story that had me shaking my head, Apparently one of the racists who was walking with the group holding a torch didn't appreciate that he was recognizable in a picture that was published. Now the moron is saying that he isn't really a racist.

In this day and age how the heck can these people be so stupid to think photos will not be taken. I was thrilled when they started releasing pictures.

Perhaps that's why their brethren wore hoods?

Perhaps that's why their brethren wore hoods?

Indeed. Their smarter brethren. The Pre-Trump breed of Klansman who knew he should be ashamed of what he did in the dead of night. One with a higher IQ than the Trump breed of Klansman. One who was a bank manager by day and therefore would have something to lose if he were exposed as a racist, not one who lived in his parents' basement.

If you're not willing to be recognized for what you believe in then stay the he11 home.

Using the bank manager as an example, I am constantly astounded by people who can somehow live a double life. If you know that you would be fired from your job if your beliefs were to become public, wherein lies the duplicity? I say in having a job -- and therefore holding yourself out the world -- where you are day in and and day out doing something that must conflict with your core belief system if you cannot show your true colors. I doubt many people are capable of changing their fundamental values, so a new job is in order. Shame on you for wearing your white hood at night and your Brooks Brothers during the day.

It's all about blending in regardless of what terrorist group you identify with.
Lots of people aren't what they seem. You've heard "hiding in plain sight". I Agree with what you're saying though DeeJay. Some of the most prominent townsfolk were Klansmen. Even sheriffs! Disgusting

Living a life in which one is deceiving others is not black or white, and that is really what is being discussed here. There are many different reasons why a person may choose to live a life where deception becomes necessary for him. The deception may be because one wants to keep his job or his reputation or it may be, as in the case of my husband's family who hid the fact that they were Jews in Nazi-occupied territory, because he wants to keep his life.

An outsider can judge whether it is good or bad to deceive others about one's true identity based on whether he he feels that the deception is being performed for reasons that he perceives as good and moral. Many of us would not judge Jews in hiding or undercover policemen who deceived others about their true identities to foster a plan for the public good, but we would negatively judge people who deceived others solely for their own advantage if they were in no peril.

I don't disagree with you your post that it's not black or white, however, my quoted post was intended to reference what DeeJay was saying about individuals living in conflict with their core beliefs. We were to my knowledge referring to hate groups and the like, not those with intent of doing humanitarian deeds and had to hide from danger as you are referring.
You make a very good counter point. And I agree, may shades of grey.

On CNN right now:

Charlottesville police hold a press conference as people on both sides of last week's protests say they didn't do enough to prevent violence.

My opinion:

Charlottesville police should be holding a press conference and saying that people on both sides of last week's protests didn't do enough to act in a non-violent manner.

In this day and age how the heck can these people be so stupid to think photos will not be taken. I was thrilled when they started releasing pictures.

I visited The Southern Poverty Law Center website today and learned about what was 9to me) a new group. It could have been satire. it could have been "Saturday Night Live". I had to excerpt some of the description of the group being formed because it was so ridiculous. You do not have to warn me that these idiots are deadly. I know that. But they are truly morons.

Excerpt below. This new group will be a "tactical defensive arm of "The Proud Boys". It is to be called the "Fraternal Order of Alt Knights (cleverly called 'FOAK')".

“'We don’t fear the fight. We are the fight,' Chapman said in a recent social media post announcing FOAK’s formation.

'I’m proud to announce that my newly created Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights will be partnering with Proud Boys,' Chapman said, with the 'full-approval' of its founder, Gavin McInnes.

McInnes is a co-founder of Vice (although he and the magazine severed ties 10 years ago) and more recently has been a frequent guest on FOX News and a contributor for the racist site VDARE where he denigrated Muslims and called Asian Americans 'slopes' and 'riceballs.'

Now described as a 'neo-masculine reactionary,' McInnes calls his Proud Boys a 'pro-West fraternal organization.'

Others describe it as the military arm of the Alt-Right.

And now there’s 'FOAK,' which Chapman proudly describes as a 'fraternal organization,' a Proud Boys affiliate chapter, 'with its own bylaws, constitution, rituals and vetting processes.'

Although there initially aren’t any overt racist themes, the new Alt-Right group of street fighters sounds quite similar to a neo-Nazi 'fight club' called the 'DIY Division.' Members of that white supremacist group showed up in March in Huntington Beach, California, mingling with an estimated 2,000 Trump supporters.

ir163_briefs_mcinnis-proud-boys-ap_17118020174256.1.jpg

Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes speaks at a rally in Berkeley in April.

The Proud Boys reportedly have a four-step initiation process. It starts with a prospect declaring himself a 'Proud Boy,' suiting up in Fred Perry polo shirts with yellow stripes — similar to those worn by skinheads.

The second degree is a 'cereal beat-in' during which the new member is punched and beaten by current members until the plebe can rattle off the names of five cereals (you know, Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Cheerios!)

The third degree reported involves 'adhering to the masturbation regimen and getting a tattoo,' blogger Will Sommer wrote in a recent post.

Since then, a fourth-degree has been added to the initiation ritual — brawling with antifascists at public rallies.

Chapman said his Proud Boys’ affiliate, Alt-Knights, are ready to take it to the streets.

'Our emphasis will be on street activism, preparation, defense and confrontation,' he said. 'We will protect and defend our right wing brethren when the police and government fail to do so.'

Chapman says his organization 'is for those that possess the Warrior Spirit. The weak or timid need not apply.'"

I was going to apply because I could see from the photo that skinny, weak-looking, frail specimens like me are accepted. But then I realized that it was a male only club. Darn! I missed my chance!
