IDJ is on break right now so I can't ask them this question. They don't get back for over a week and I am trying to figure out a general range of what doing ruby studs with jackets will cost me but I don't know what the jackets cost.
I am trying to figure out what is the range they cost.
From the smaller ones (for .50 CTW in a 1 Pt/ 2PT) to the larger ones in 2, 3 or 5 Pt.
Also what MM can the small ones fit up to? I thought I read that people have put 4.4 mm studs in the smaller jackets (for .50 CTW)? I am leaning towards getting rubies smaller that would fit in the smaller jackets since I want to get diamonds later this year and other studs. I am worried that if I get bigger rubies and larger jacket I really won't be able to afford diamonds or other studs to go in them.

I am not looking for exactly what people paid (if they don't want to share) but around what they cost.

It will help me figure out what ruby studs I am having made.

Thank you so much for your help.
The jackets look stunning.

I just received mine, they are 3 pts and are to fit a 5mm stone (my stones are .44 and .43) and I think they were $650 / $700 ish??? And for the same mm size but in 5 pts they were about $200+ more. No details infront of me, that's by memory... so wait till they are back next week from vacation and get more accurate info from Luann - but I hope that helps!

Ditto Enerchi, I have 0.44ct (each) studs (they are 4.9mm) and I bought the jackets for the 5mm stones (0.50ct each, 1 ctw) with 3 pointers. I think I paid just under $700 for mine and I LOVE them:

The 5 pointer jackets for 5mm studs are $950 (the picture isn't showing but the size info is in the details):

One other question did either of you need to ask for upgraded stones or are those the standard stones (they are stunning in the pictures). I am likely to get the 4 MM (so for 1/2 CTW ) in 2MM or 3MM based on the pictures and what the numbers come in at. The above number gives me a great idea on where they are at.

But if someone got the smaller ones (for 4MM 1/2 CTW) and has the range they cost them I would love to see it. I understand that I won't have an exact quote till next week but it will sure help in my planning esp with the currently two pair of rubies I am looking at stone wise. So where the jackets land $ matter on which pair of stones I get. Also since I am going to have to have the stones turned into earrings is there a setting that works better with the jackets? martini? 4 prong?

Luann knew I was on PS and I had referred to Cellantini's (and the slew of other PSer's since then....!!!) so she made note they are to be PS quality - F/G colour with VS/SI clarity. Just ask for the PS jackets - she'll know EXACTLY what you mean :wink2:

Im sorry i cant help, but I hope you wont be terribly upset if i just in and ask a question ?!

I just bought studs too (YAY). They are from my DH as a wedding present (10 months late). He is also asking me what I would like for my 1st anniversary present, SO i thought jackets would be a nice idea.. I love the HW sunflower studs. Would ID jewellery or someone else be able to make these as jackets? If so as my stones are 1 carat each, how big would the 8 outer stones have to be?

Thank you!! And I cant wait to see your jackets when you make them!

Glad someone asked. Does anyone know the cost of the jackets that would fit my .67ct each studs? I'm thinking I'd be fine with stock settings for .75 ct, since mine are in 8 prong settings.

Yes, I'm pulling another Andelain....... :naughty: :Up_to_something:

Sushi I think they likely have settings for that with the outer prong. Getting them in 8 stones likely just means bigger stones. I know some of the PS got 5PT stones so you should be able to go larger in stones for the look you want and from reading the threads I think they come in .5 CTW (so .25 each ear) 1CTW and other stock setting sizes.

They emailed from vacation late last week saying when they got back they would send me a quote so hopefully I will get one today or tomorrow.

rubymd - I didn't ask for upgraded stones but I did tell them I am a PSer and they said they would put "PS-quality" stones in them. They are perfectly white, clear, and sparkly so I have no complaints!

sushi - As rubymd said, they probably have something like those that they can make, just email them your photo and see what they suggest. I'm sure it can be done and they'll look gorgeous with your new studs!

Andelain - I think the jackets for the 0.75 ctw studs would work for your 0.67 ctw pair. My studs total 0.88ctw and have the 8-prong settings like yours and I think the jackets for 1 ctw work perfectly!

KatSullivan - I think the jackets for the 5mm stones might actually work for your pair. My studs have 8-prong settings so even though the diamonds measure approximately 4.9mm each, they are about 5.5mm when you include the settings. I would give IDJ a call and they'll let you know what they advise. I honestly prefer to have the stones to sit up a little higher rather than have an airline.

Thanks for the info stargurl78! I really should contact them and see what they say. They must be inundated with all the PSer's requests! I am worried that with the bezel they'll sit up too high, but at the same time - I do think the airline would bug me. I'm one of those neurotic types that would probably be driven nuts by it! I'm also worried that if I went up a size (6mm) that the spread would be ridiculous. I know it's un-PS like to complain about spread, but I just don't know if I have enough lobe!

.. lots of PS'ers have these jackets, but in case they don't see the questions in this thread, I highly recommend anyone with Q's on the IDJ studs just call them up and ask your questions re pricing, what range of mm they fit, and even about bezels. They are super helpful over the phone, and very familiar with questions on these jackets.

Ok I have my quotes from them but now I really want thoughts on the diamond pts. I am getting the smaller jackets since I am getting 4 MM ruby studs. So they will be the size of 1/2 CTW stud jackets or .25 per ear. The reason I decided to get the rubies smaller and the jackets smaller is so later in the year I can get diamond studs (from IDJ) and in the meantime more CS studs for the jackets. Now I want thoughts on 2PT jackets or 3 PT jackets. Since my pair will be teh smaller size the diamonds in 3PT will be bigger in comparison to stud vs the 5mm jackets a lot of you have gotten. I want to be able to wear the jackets not just for special occasions and don't have a job where others bling it up that much. Also my RHR I just got is .6 ruby with 4Pt halo Diana style ring on my tiny hands (4 1/4) and my ering is .5 carats. I do have long hair and I am tall. Ok now that I am done over sharing :-) what are people's thoughts on 2PT vs 3 PT jackets for the smaller size jackets (.25 per ear). The 2 pt for 4 MM will have 11 stones per ear and the 3PT for 4 MM will have 9 per ear. Will 3PT overpower 4MM stones? Or look out of whack with my smaller diamonds ect? The cost isn't so different that would make the decision easier. I did rule out the 1PT ones so I have gotten that far.

I do LOVE the link you sent of those jackets.

Does anyone who has the jackets know what the MM diam. of the jackets are in the different stones? That would help me figure it out. I just want to make sure if I go with 3PT they won't be too big on my ears or too blingy for wearing out and about vs just for special occasions. I know that the blingy question is subjective vs the size which is likely more strait forward.

3pt diamonds are about 2mm in diameter, so the jackets for 4mm stones likely have about 8mm of coverage! That is a tonne! maybe cut out a piece of paper that size and stick it on your ear? I think it would be too large for my lobe :blackeye:

Rubymd - the size of the 3pt jacket (edge to edge) is 9mm (using a standard ruler) and the diamonds are individually approx 2mm each. I don't have any other sizes to help you with, but just took these off to measure them for you. Hope that might be helpful for you!

Enerchi, yours are made for the 5mm stones, right? Rubymd is looking at the ones for 4mm so that means Dreamer is probably right with her estimate of 8mm. I vote for the 3 pointers for sure. I love the look of cellentani's set    I have the 3-pointers with the 5mm studs and I definitely don't think they are tooooo much on the ears.

ACK! Sorry ... Was trying to be helpful but messed up... seems to be how my day has been going!

Sorry about that Rubymd!! (but there we go - those are the deets for the 5mm jackets! )

Sorry to burst in late - summer and all.....! Anyway, I just measured both sets of jackets, and the pair with 3-pointers for a 4mm stud are just over 8.25mm across, and the jackets for a 5mm stud (also 3-pointers) measure 9.36mm across. At first I worried that the larger pair would be too big for my ears, but now I really LOVE both sizes - smaller pair for my OEC's, and larger pair for colored stones! YUM! Anyway, hope that helps.

No worries Enerchi, you are always helpful!! :wavey:

Everyone that helps a ton! I am leaning towards the 3pts but mine will be for starting color (rubies which are flying across the country right now, then likely blue sapphires - some of the stone venders have great and great priced stones at the smaller 4mm size, then other cheaper colored stones ) and later in the year diamond studs. I intentionally am getting the smaller ones so I can end up with more studs including diamonds. It would be a long time before I had the flexibility of 5 mm diamonds, rubies, and sapphires but at 4mm (half the weight) I can get them all likely before the end of the year if I shop smart.
This is all been so helpful for me to figure it out.

So I just ordered my ID jackets. In the end I am getting then in 5mm not 4. I had ordered and then returned a pair of ruby studs in 4mm. The pair was very stunning but a tad dark and at the small size it was really noticeable indoors. I went into the B and M that I got my ring at and they had a pair of 5 mm really nice rubies. This is the time of the year where they put everything on a massive sale to move into holiday stock. So I got a great deal on a pair of 5 MM heat only rubies. They are currently taking them out of the yellow gold and putting them into white gold martinis with la pousette backs. So in the next week I will have ruby studs and ID jackets for 5 mms. It is going to mean it will take me a lot longer to get diamond studs since the size I will need but honestly I love rubies more :-). Thanks everyone for your help!

Well that's awesome news, Rubymd! They will look amazing - the ruby/diamond combo... and I'll bet your excited to get studs (all in good time, of course) to alternate with. Very exciting - and don't forget to post lots of pictures for us!

I have a pair of these jackets and I love them and know that you will too!

So I picked up my 5mm (or they might be 4.9 they are 1.16 CTs or so of rubies today from the store I got my ring from. I mentioned I had ordered 4mm and then sent then back because while pretty they preformed great everywhere but indoors where they were dark. My new rubies I loved the color and they were a big lighter so preformed great indoors and out. Plus they are larger. Here is the picture Random note you can also see the neat pendant that I got a few years ago off ebay from a estate seller they are ok rubies but lean red purple like some thai ones in some lighting. But I loved the double halo design and they show red 99% of the time.

The earrings are to go with my new ring and basically if I had to pick one stone to wear it would be rubies with accent diamonds (my E ring is diamond with two rubies, have 3 pendants, new ring, couple of play ruby rings(meaning small ebay ect), a bangle that is like a three stone ring 1 ruby and flack two round diamonds (ebay). I can get lost in the red color of a ruby.

Anyhow now I am just waiting for my jackets to show up :-). I may call Luann today since we are now leaving on a trip end of next week to see if it is possible to make sure they get shipped mid next week so they don't arrive when I am gone for a week.
