Hello
I recently purchased a diamond and setting, however I was somewhat disappointed with the original diamond and had it swapped out. However for some reason Blue Nile damaged the setting when removing the diamond I was unsatisfied with and it's un-usable and they no longer make the setting or have the ability to re-cast the ring in its original molds.

While I am waiting to hear back from them here is the original setting that my fiancee picked out

I'm not sure how much leeway I have talking with BN, but it appears they will make an entirely new mold to make up for damaging the the setting (I thought they were good enough to remove and add diamonds without damaging the setting, but who knows?)

Also it would be a bonus if the ring had a way to sit flat engagement rings next to it.

I'm looking for ideas for possible improvements to the original design since they appear unable to use their old molds to re-create the ring exactly.

Okay so... I just want to make sure I understand what you are looking for. You want advice on how to modify the design of the ring to allow for a straight flush fit band?

I'm not 100% sure on what I want, just bouncing some ideas off the pricescope community.

I'm also divided on whether or not to just get another setting for a couple of reasons
1. Inertia - sorta feel like just keep the same setting style we had looked at earlier
2. other settings are a bit expensive if we want to replicate the design. seemed like this setting was nicely within the budget I had set out for myself - $6500-7000 with diamond + ring

So that's probably why you aren't getting a lot of responses. If you don't know what you want, then it is hard for us to help you. =)2

Let's start with your diamond. The new one: what are the table, depth, crown angle and pavilion angles on it. What is the color and clarity and the diamond weight. If it is SI clarity-- did you request an image?

Next, you said your lady chose that setting. Since she chose it, I'm not sure altering it would be a good idea. Us women, we get attached to things like the design of our engagement rings.

And modifying that design to work with a flush band is going to require design time and CAD time, both of which are expensive. And that they might charge you for.

My best advice is: focus on getting the best diamond you can for your budget and stick with the setting your lady picked out for herself. She's probably attached to it already.

Ok I guess that makes sense. Less work for everyone involved

I just posted some pictures of it. I also have a Loupe and hearts and arrow viewer but it’s hard to get good images with my phone
I’ll shoot them an email and see what they say

The numbers on the new stone are very good...it also looks pretty good for an SI2 clarity IMO. Is it eye-clean?

That setting would be hard to modify in order to make a wedding band sit next to it. Not impossible, but difficult.

Under direct Lightning or spotlight it’s not visible. With diffuse but dim Lightning it’s visible as a little dot though I’ll have to know I was looking for it to see it.

I think I’ll just keep it the same unless they tell me they have no way of remaking the ring
