Can you visually tell between ideal and excellent cuts?! So, my question : would you recommend going for an ideal cut diamond, or going say 10 points bigger and a ex ex ex stone (cut, polish, symmetry)?! Not sure whether I should go the smaller stone and know I am getting the best cut possible, or whether I should go for a bigger stone - am I going to be able to SEE the difference?! I want lots of fire and sparkle! Thanks again!

an ex cut grade, ex/ex but non ideal proportions?

There is overlap between AGS0 (ideal) and GIA Excellent. Look at the specs for ideal cut and do not worry about whether it is GIA or AGS. Rough guidelines: table 54-57, depth 60-62. crown angle 34-35, pavilion angle 40.7-41, girdle thin-medium-slightly thick. Some vendors like Good Old Gold test the GIA stones for AGS light performance, too.

A little more info could help...

how big is one
Are these variances same as AGS0 vs GIA excellent
Details of crown & pavillion angles for each

that kind of stuff

provide reflector type pictures and you''re golden

I havn''t narrowed down the stones yet, just been given a few options. They are GIA excellent vs ideal (1.2 on that HCA thingy). Don''t have all the specs so cant compare the others. Just wanted an idea of whether I should be satisfied with excellent, but it seems like I need more info hey?

yep, ex ex ex but doesn''t fall into the excellent proportions when I put the numbers into the cut adviser thingy

Frequently, you don''t have to give up one for the other. Are you in a time crunch?

Definately not! Been waiting for 11 years (!), there is movement on the front so just looking at my options! So you are saying I could hold out for a bigger ideal cut stone?
