I went to dinner tonight, and as was getting dressed, I realized I could really use a cocktail ring to liven up my outfit. So that project is going on my list. I am thinking I would want something at least 5 carats, although 10 carats plus would be ideal.

I would love to see your beauties for inspiration!

Thanks!

Wow kelpie, those are both beautiful!

Thanks! I wear them with jeans more than cocktail dresses. :)

Beautiful, both of them, Kelpie. Know what you mean -- so often I see pieces I'm dying to have or have made, but think, "Where am I gonna wear it, the grocery store?" :naughty:

I feel the same way. On my project list (for the far distant future) is to have a big cocktail ring made. But I don't wear big jewelry (none of my ring stones so far have a dimension greater than 7mm), and I know I'm going to chicken out every time I go to wear it. So if I ever have one made, it's going to have to be in a very versatile color that would go with any fancy outfit, b/c I know I'll never get the guts together to wear it with jeans.

I think jeans dressed up with a cocktail ring is a great look! If I waited for an event that when I wear actual cocktail attire, I would be waiting a long time!

As long as your comfortable, I think you can wear a cocktail ring whenever you want. I wear them when I'm going out shopping/eating etc, but then again people tell me I always dressed up too nice for the occasion so maybe I'm not the best person to give advice! ;)

I don't even wear mine with nice jeans! Like flipflops, a $7 t-shirt and old jeans I never had hemmed for my height so they're worn around the hem. I like my pieces bold but delicately constructed...just adds some nice fabulousness to my mundane life. I lived on a farm in West Virginia and now Sub-Saharan Africa so if I waited for society events my goodies would never see the light of day. Elizabeth Taylor used to swim laps in a diamond tiara! You don't need a reason to wear a faboosh ring.

Because I've not got much to do...here is one of my fave big cocktail rings. And yes, that is a beer mat in the background because I was at the pub! Classy!!

I can't wear it all the time though, because it's made of gold wire and they tend to get knocked out of place easily. Plus, the thing weighs a ton!

Kelpie:
Love your rings. I think it is cool to wear a fantastic cocktail ring with very casual clothing.
Will you post a hand shot of your green garnet ring? Or give me a link of that? I love that ring as well. Thanks.

I don't know if these qualify as coctail rings, but they're my largest ones, and I'd totally wear them with jeans and a cute top.

Cell, I really love the setting for the first stone. Where did you get it?

Those dimensions are probably at the very top of the range I'd be comfortable wearing day-to-day.

Interesting point - what is a cocktail ring?

Cell, it goes without saying that your rings are shockingly beautiful! You have exquisite taste!

For me, a cocktail ring is usually incredibly blingy and/or the stone is of a larger than average scale. It draws attention to itself but doesn't cross the line of "tacky." It's one of those things that I know when I see it.

Hi erinl and lavatea, thanks for your kind words! I found the setting for the peridot in the NYC diamond district at Klim Jewelers.

One more, not a large colored stone, but a mosaic diamond style. I like wearing this one because it sits low on the hand, and has a pretty underplate.

Cellentani- That totally looks like a 3 ct center. Awesome!

Atwater- I'll get some handshots tomorrow.

Kelpie, those 2 rings are 2 of my absolute favorites on pricescope! A big chunky halo ring like your emerald one is on my wish list :)

Cellentani - love that peridot and its gorgeous setting!

I have rings with largish stones but not really gaudy (at least I don't think so).

Chrono, those two rings are legendary!!!! I'm speechless!!

You are very kind Stargurl! I am loving Chrono's Mahenge and spess. Here is the requested handshot of my 2.5 green garnet. If I had known I would love this ring so much I would have sprung for sidestones that were a closer color/clarity match but I just used what I had.

Kelpie: Thank you for sharing the handshot. It is gorgeous! I cannot see any mismatch between the two side stones. Green grossular is high on my list and I am patiently looking for one.

Cell, Chrono, I've always both of your tastes and collections. These pieces are no different for me. They're just breathtaking.

I think this counts; it's my giant 10.7 x 10.7 Nigerian tourmaline from Jerry at Gemart Services. I wear it when I go out to dinner, and it sparkles up a storm. :cheeky:

Here's the original thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/finally-pix-of-setting-with-big-stone-cut-by-jerry.150537/

Jerry does some incredible cutting! He cut this for me custom and it went from rough, to stone, to in my hand in just a few days. I think he's not as well known here because he works mostly for local jewelers, and doesn't actively cultivate his internet business, but he deserves more business from PSers.
