So... I want some Diamond stud earrings... I would love some OEC's, but are Regular round diamonds easier to come by and less expensive? I want as big as I can get them, with a budget of $5k. I haven't reached out to any vendors yet, and will likely go to my usual, Mark at BE. What size can I expect, do you think for this budget. I had a pair many years ago, that were a total of 2.67 in carat weight I bought at the Shane company, and had to sell them due to a Divorce situation from my first marriage. They were terribly included, and while I miss having diamond earrings, I don't miss "those," I was fine parting with them. I would love an everyday pair. Any guidance would be helpful!

Adam at Old World Diamonds is a great source for oec's.

Didn't even think about Adam, Thank you!!

Truluv, I hope you will find a great pair of diamond studs! Not sure if these are still available, but as a price reference you can look at this link. https://www.pricescope.com/forum/post3898690.html#p3898690l. They are still on LT.

You could also reach out to this vendor if you decide to go with oec studs or they could give you an idea on what is within your budget?

I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up with. I'm sure BE will have some spectacular studs too! Should be a fun project! Do you know what kind of setting you want?

Rockinruby- Thank you!!! I haven't decided "for sure," what I want but I am sort of leaning towards so OEC's. I think having them lined with a bezel or miligrain edge will give them the appearance o being bigger... I just am not sure what my budget will produce?

The stats you will get will vary wildly depending on your quality expectations. I am quite forgiving on clarity when it comes to earrings, GIA standard SI2-I1 I often find acceptable, for color I'm always always fine with the JKL range, maybe even more for older cuts. Good sources are Adam from OWD, Jewels by Grace, Love Affair Diamonds, and even BE may be able to help. They might not have as much genuine old cuts but they are in the diamond district and if you already have a relationship with them it never hurts to ask.

Totally agree... much more forgiving with earrings! Looking back at my old solitaires, they were a mess... so many inclusions, I totally overpaid at a brick and mortar. Now, I wouldn't even consider them, but I loved the size. I imagine if I paid $6k for those, I can't get something much, much netter quality... at least I hope. I rmemeber there being a huge gash, and just ignoring it... lol!

I've liked the bench work of the mounted pieces I've seen when visiting Adam (Old World Diamonds) in person, so think you can be comfortable having him also handle the fabrication of the earrings.

Best to call Adam rather than send an e-mail; he is not "into" e-mail, so a phone conversation will be more efficient; plus, he's fun to talk with :))

Molly- good to know... I emailed him ages ago about something else, and he never got back to me... so that makes sense. I love when vendors are friendly and easy to work with, glad to know Adam is a nice guy!

Molly-Thank you sooo much for posting that link! So incredibly helpful, just to gage measurements, etc. :appl:

Argh, in my haste, I steered you wrong -- it's SB621's 2.30 tcw studs, toward the bottom of that same PS page, that are from Adam. My apologies!!

That thread, especially the ear shots, is great for getting a handle on how stones of various sizes "translate" when set into studs in various mountings!

I love settings like the ones you are describing! :appl: I can't wait to see what you come up with. Also, I agree about being more flexible with color/clarity for earrings. Good luck!

another rec for Adam at OWD! A year or so ago, my then-boyfriend and I had the greatest hour with him at his office learning about OECs and I truly enjoyed getting to know him. He's very passionate and knowledgeable and not pushy and into 'selling' at all. You can tell he loves a challenge. At the time I was fixated on ovals and was troubled by bowties! Meanwhile, my now-husband went an entirely different direction (that I also loved!), so my OEC obsession remains unrequited!

I'm eager to see what you come up with for earrings also. :)
