I think I found a pair of OECs!

I have been trolling for a pair of OECs for studs, and anyone who has tried knows that is really hard to do. I was basically going to give up completely, but wanted to wait for my last "chance" buy to arrive today.

Originally I wanted a mate for my 5.2mm stone, and I found a potential match on Etsy. No measurements, but a carat weight estimate that seems possible. No color or clarity information.

The stone arrived, set in a ring, and it is bigger and more tinted than my 5.2mm, but I think it might be a good match for my GIA .70ct J VS1 :Up_to_something:

The new stone is about 5.55 x 5.67 and the GIA stone is 5.59 x 5.77 I won't know for sure until I unset the new stone and eye ball it, but I am optimistic :appl:

Wish me luck, I am going to the jeweler this afternoon!

Good luck. Hope it works out for you. Let us know!

Congrats! I hope it works out for you!

Got my stone today, mind if I email you?

That's great! I hope they work out for you!! :appl:

Sounds promising!! Crossing my fingers that you've finally found that matching pair. :appl:

I KNOW how hard it is. I've been trying to find matching oec .25's for a 3 stone ring.... and must match color and facet pattern with middle stone.

You don't want to know how long..... it's been several years.

I'm going to Amsterdam next month and will try my luck there.

Oooo can't wait for pics!! Maybe a massive three stone with your two .70 and your 1.0??? :)

That's what I'd do, but it won't fit in the setting she got for a song!

Well the stones are a great match!

The new diamond is a 0.65ct stone, J color, same size table and crown angle! It is uncanny. I will post photos in a moment. My jeweler who is very picky thought they were a great match, he would even use them as side stones :Up_to_something:

If you put them right next to each other and look back and forth you you just make out the difference in size. They are not earrings for our good friend DiamondSeeker  But they are good enough for meeeeee!

I can only tell them apart because the 0.65ct has a slightly larger culet!

That's awesome! So what are you going to do? Rubbing my hands in anticipation of photos and deets on the latest bling plot you're hatching!

0.70ct J VS1 GIA on the Left.
0.65ct unknown stats on the Right.

There is NOTHING cuter than two little diamonds sitting next to each other. Maybe my kids, but other than that... ;))

Well then I KNOW I am on the right track then!

Trouble is, now I don't know WHAT to do! I had not intended to buy 1.35cttw studs, I was looking for studs around 1cttw. But I can't turn these away. And they are a very nice match for my 1ct :halo: What to do.... What to do...

They look perfect together to me! So these will be for earrings? I was thinking side stones for some reason. I guess I need to check your 3-stone thread for the latest on that project.

hee hee... I have a pair of 4mm stones coming, but these guys are much larger! Too large for the mount of course!

I have two projects in the works. One is a three stone and the other is earrings.

I had bought the 70 point stone as a potential center stone for the three stone, so I could keep the 1ct diamond I own as a solitaire. But it did not work for that project.

I bought the .65ct stone as a potential earring mate for another OEC I own, but it is too big for that!

But it turns out these two diamonds work really well together. So they need to be buddies. I was/am thinking earrings, but now the gals have my wheels turning about a massive three stone ring instead. I know someone else who would love the mount I have if I cannot use it :))

OOOkkkk, now I see! :)) I think they will be gorgeous however you use them, though I think I am seeing bezels and milgrain for these babies. Massive three stone, definitely DO THAT!

ETA: I forgot to say that you and T-Gal now have me thinking/dreaming about a 3-stone ring. Dreaded PS enablers.... :naughty:

gorgeous! Girl, no brainer....if it matches with your 1c, make the three stone of your dreams...spend a bit more on the mount and get EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT.

Congrats!!! :appl:

HAH! No way jose! I spent about 100 hours on ebay hunting for these, I think someone will have to pry them from my cold dead hands.

I never really dreamed of a three stone with these proportions. It would be insane! It would cover my whole finger! These side stones are bigger than yours I think? They are about 5.6mm each.

It is very tempting. Very very tempting. That really would not be a RHR though in my mind. And it would be a similar look to my Aurora. Good food for thought! I have been struggling a little with the three stone project using the mount I bought, and usually if I am struggling about it somehow it means it is not *just right*

Onedrop Well you have the 6mm center stone :naughty: You know you are a three stone gal :halo:

Dreamer,

100 hours........ WOW just WOW!!! :errrr:

That is a labour of love. You deserve them after all that incredible effort!! :appl:

I haven't had much time lately so I haven't been on PS much, but I do keep up with your projects even if I do not have the time to post.

I love all your back and forth debates. Plus the uncertainty of what will be is just so damn captivating!!!

You have quite a collection and even more options. I cannot wait to see what you will end up wearing!!!

Well, I think we're a lot alike that we want to do the entire shebang for a "deal", which means that you might struggle with the setting part. I came to an epiphany yesterday...I really need not to cut corners and try to save on the setting. But it's hard, because I don't want to spend a ton. But this is not just a RHR for me (as well as you, as I understand it) and I am not an upgrader. So I'd better like it, if not love it.

Yes, I think your stones are bigger! That's why I was looking at the link I posted on my thread...always a temptation for biggering, biggering, and BIGGERING (to quote The Lorax). I thought the sides at .6 and .58, (if that listing is right), it might be even better! Then I took out my brooch and just reminded myself I was starting to go PS insane...my stones are gorgeous and the three stone proportions fantastic. It's just that I thought if I could get the stones AND a ring for cheaper, it would be good...but I don't love the setting that the ebay ring is in, so it would be a only $300 savings when you factor in the fact I can sell the brooch for 1K, plus no guarantee those sidestones aren't carrying their weight in their depth. And I'd have to deal with getting it appraised again, plus also don't know if my brooch would even sell (although I think I can fairly easily get what I paid.)

Anyway, it's tough, but fun isn't it, to have these dilemmas? The new set is fab. Personally, I'd never ever waste any time and energy (and you spend a LOT of energy) on setting stones in studs again. You just can't enjoy the fruit of your labor because you can't gaze at the faceting all day. :)

Awww glad I provide some entertainment!

Yeah, it is a lot of time to find nice OECs on ebay, and even more to find two that match -- and a dose of luck. I surf when hubby and I watch TV at night, and I have been hunting and buying OECs for about four months now. But written out like that... it does sound a little.... wachadoo! :rodent: :o

That would be one heck of a three stone ring DD! And I really think you could do both the Aurora and the 3-stone. They are kind of similar, but different enough that you could go back and forth wearing them and have a different look. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

You're so right, I am definitely a 3-stone gal at heart. I just love the finger coverage and them being a little *different* from the typical solitaire e-ring. I'll get back there one day...my center stone is definitely very lonely right now!

T-Gal makes a really good point here:

Personally, I'd never ever waste any time and energy (and you spend a LOT of energy) on setting stones in studs again. You just can't enjoy the fruit of your labor because you can't gaze at the faceting all day.

They look great together, congrats! They'll make amazings earrings or side stones on a ring. You've got serious hunting skills!

And that should have said "spent" not "spend". To have spent 4 months looking for stones to stick them on your ears? No no no! ;(

Noooo... cheap and discerning. A difficult combo. As it happens, the three OECs I have are eerily well matched even by my own discerning eye. Small tables, relatively shallow crowns as they go in OECs, good optical symetry, colors all match up... it was meant to be? I will *never* come accross a suite of stones like this again. I am not one who can handle perceptible difference in color or noticable crown heights. This is the "perfect storm" of OECs for me I think.

All the points you make are valid. I too have learned setting should not be cheaped out on, they make or break it. I would not want a pave masterpiece, but rather a fluid platinum trellis type ring, clean lines and modern. I know that is not everyones taste for old stones, but it is my style and taste. I think it would only ( ) cost about $2000, maybe even less. I can see it in my head already. Is that a sign?

I admit, when I realized these stones matched so well I got a rush of giddy excitement. And a three stone with the 1ct and these sides would be very me. Bold and flashy. WHile I adore the w-prong with .25ct sides in theory, in practice I believe bigger diamonds are always better because you can appreciate the faceting more.
