Well, there are my choices! I''M VERY HAPPY!!! After a terrible experience with Christian Bernard, still in process, I can say I have narrowed it down to TWO BEAUTIFUL STONES!!! What are your suggestions???

hello dsong,

these stones are almost identical except the table and depth%. i spose if i had to pick one alone just from looking at the numbers i would choose stone 1 due to the smaller depth%. do you have any other information on them such as a light-scope report? the crown angles look great on both of them and i would expect these diamonds to be great performers. im not by any means an expert but ive learned a couple things along the way. im sure some other smart people will chime in here. gl choosing, it seems both stones are winners!!

If they have a money back guarantee have you thought of having them both shipped to an appraiser if you can't see them first?

No I can't see them. It's from the same vendor but they have to order it. Once Whiteflash receives it, then Brian the cutter can look at it.

Is the first diamond a better cut or are they similar cuts. If they're similar, I'd rather go with the F color rather than the G color. But if the cut will make a difference with these two stones and the first is better, I'll go for the G rather than F. Opinions?

I think Brian will give you the best opinion of anyone here. I would go with his recommendation.

Another vote here for Number 1. Same as the other folks,...... I like the look of the specs for #1 better than #2.

Whiteflash is great to deal with, so I'd ask to have both stones brought in so that Brian can look at them and explain the differences between the two, which it sounds like you've done. I've never talked to him myself, but other people have said he's very helpful and is not afraid to call it like he sees it, so I would trust his advice more than us interpretting some numbers that really can't tell the whole story. Now if you could get some pictures, that would give us a little more info to go on, but I would still lean heavily on Brian's opinion. Let us know how the comparison goes.

They're both beautiful stones! I think for the cost of return shipping on one stone (~$50) you can call them both in and have the vendor decide on the best one for you. What you really want is to find a stone with a good combination of crown and pavilion angles because they seem to have a great effect on the light performance of the stone. Because you have the smaller pavilion angle on the second stone, it's hard for me to compare the two (unless both angles just add up to 100 but I'm too new to this whole process to know if that's the case). Although several people will probably refute it (we all have our own tricks or personal taste when it comes to princess stones), IMO it's nice to have the table smaller than the depth by a fair amount. I therefore have a slightly better feeling about the second stone than the first, even though it's a little deeper. It's a close call in all honesty when you can't see the stones. Oh, yeah! Another thing I like about the second stone (besides the color) is there's less variation in the girdle which makes me think (right or wrong) that someone paid a lot of attention to matching things up. It's probably just a "feel good" aspect (not many people pay much attention to this unless it's in the extremes) but I like thinking that things just match up better. Can you tell I'm no expert?

At any rate, I don't think you can go wrong with either stone from the information you've provided, but if you can afford it I would have them call both stones in, have them send you pictures of the actual diamonds and their ideal scopes, and make a decision that way. IMO, $50 is worth you not worrying whether you made the right choice!

Here's something to think about:

moremoremore and I both lucked into beautifully performing stones (if I do say so myself) yet our table/depths are nowhere close to one another in terms of numbers (hers are in the high 60's, mine are in the low 70's). Also, her table is closer to her depth % than mine. The only thing we really seem to have in common is a crown of 11.2% (her pavilion angle was 57.6, mine was 61.7). I guess I just want you to see that there probably is a good range/combination of numbers to look for (thanks to Dave Atlas), but that it's nearly impossible for us to tell you which stone to pick. The more I look at the stones, the more I start to like one, then the other. Maybe an expert will respond soon and be able to pick "the diamond from the rough"

I don't have a picture of my ring yet

because the setting is being made as we speak

My ring should be done in a week or so, but then I have to wait to see it until my B/F proposes (yes, we're a little backwards). The reason it's taking so long is we had the diamond sent to us so we could see it in person before having it set, and we now have to get a somewhat customized setting because my ring size is 4.5 and my diamond is a 3.22--not that I'm complaining!

I'll be sure to post it as soon as I have it (and will PM you when I do).

I'm looking at the Sarin report and the pavilion angle that is 35.9 actually has two other numbers listed below it: 35.5 and 36.2. what does that mean?

I didn't mean to confuse you with the pavilion angles; there are two different angles that can be measured, one smaller and one larger. One one of your reports you got the larger angle, on the other it looks like you got the smaller angle. You might want to ask one of the experts like Dave or Rich about this, but I think they're both fine (I just don't know which is best).

I lied--sorry! I am now remembering something about 2 CROWN angles, 3 PAVILION angles. At any rate, there are several angles that can be measured, so I wouldn't worry about it. Again, see if you can get one of the experts to provide you with their insight into the two stones. Sorry for all the confusion!!!

Well, getting rid of the first one (which I had until about 1 year after I got married) was pretty easy....it is my indecision that pisses him off....It's funny...b/c the first one was a good size, then I went smaller, than smaller, and now biggest yet...I really would love a 3 carat jubilee....He promised me in three years! He's not sentimental like me....but that said, I'd never change my wedding band! I have relatively few "passions".... I'm not a collector...I have a few very good handbags, a few very good pairs of shoes, a pair of studs, hoops, a pendant, a good watch....not many of anything...So when I want something, we know it's a pretty important piece and that I won't need 'more'... I do seem to 'collect' stray cats though...ugh...cat hair everywhere...and I love furniture!!!!

Sounds like you were choosing new diamonds as you learned more about cut. I worry that I will do the same b/c I can't help but continually search to see if I can find a stone better than mine--horrible, huh? I also am not big on purses and things, but I do love my shoes! However, once I finish my dissertation and get back to work I will be making more $$$ than my guy so I don't think he'll be too upset when I indulge myself from time to time. And with his hobbies (sailing, diving, cars, etc) he has no room to say no to something I'll have forever that costs the same or less than his toys!

I dunno! I think i could all be photography...The F just seemed to be a darker stone...the G seemed very bright with more scattered areas of contrast...but then again, it's all about the photography...I really don't think you can go wrong with either one!
