and advice.

I plan on proposing to my gf sometime later this year or early 2010. She''s always wanted a pink diamond engagement ring so that''s exactly what I''m going to get her. I would like to get a fancy intense pink (I think they call them bubble gum or baby pink) stone between 3-5 cts, fancy cut and completely eye clean (ideally between VVS1-VS1). I know this is probably going to cost a fortune but I want her to have what she''s always dreamed of. Anyway on to my questions. How long should I expect this search to take? Are there any companies that you might suggest my search begin? And, any guestamations on how much this stone may run? I know there are many factors to that final question but any ideas would be extremely helpful.

To give you an idea of the pink colour I''m looking for I''ve attached a link to a diamond that has the perfect hue and saturation of pink.

You would have to be the ruler of an oil-rich kingdom. It would be millions of dollars. But you could save a lot of money by going down in clarity!

However, a pink sapphire or spinel could be 5,000 to 50,000.

Thanks for the response Julien. Unfortunately a pink sapphire, tourmaline or spinel are not an option for me. I'm not too concerned with price because I've already resigned myself to the high cost, I was just wondering if some might have a general guestamation (and thank you for yours). I've gathered some ideals of the expense from such sites as Colour Diamond Shop. What I'm most worried about is the time frame of finding such a rare stone and a reputable dealer/vendor. As for the clarity, it is a consideration but I don't think I will go anything lower than VS2. My gf has a very keen eye especially for imperfections, therefore she spots things that others generally do not. There have been a few times she's shown me a ring or stone(s) that seem perfect to everyone else yet she immediately spots the inclusion(s). She's beyond a perfectionist so a higher clarity is a very large factor.

Honestly, if millions is an acceptable budget- and I would suspect Julie is probably at least in the neighborhood there- why not just go all the way and get a designer piece? I would almost suspect you might *have* to; that sort of stone is incredibly rare and there might not be many sources besides a designer piece. Harry Winston and Graff are well known for colored diamonds if I''m remembering right. If your GF is content to receive an e-ring in that sort of price range, a designer piece would probably be the way to go too.

Other than a new designer piece, maybe an estate item would be a possibility. Here''s a beauty: http://www.rauantiques.com/29-0400.html . It comes complete with a name for the center stone, a 4.71ct fancy purplish pink ... no posted price, and they tend to post prices up to the $700,000ish range. Gorgeous though! (I sure do drool over that Golconda they have on the first page of their diamonds

mmmm!)

Should you find that perfect pink diamond, do post us some pics, OK?

Ditto, I would suggest contacting them and to see what they can come up with.

I want to thank everyone for their help. I have sent an email to both Graff and Harry Winston to see if they can assist me. I''m not sure why I didn''t think of them to begin with. Since I live in London I''m hoping that Graff will be the best option. She loves their jewellry and since they''re headquartered here I have high hopes.

Also, thank you for the link to that ring. My gf has already seen it and unfortunately hates it. She''s not keen on pear shaped diamonds and she absolutely abhors split shanks (I think that''s what you call them). The other pink diamond listed is nice but is a little too included. If I can see the inclusions they''ll scream out to her. Not to mention it too has a split shank.

Again, thanks for the help. Once I find the diamond, and I''m hopeful I can, I will try to post pictures.

Try Harry Winston.
