I got this spinel from AJS. I like the color mostly, though it tends to be more red than pink ... and amazingly, it fits the ring setting (maybe its better for yellow gold though?) but *sigh* I don''t think it looks good with my skin. I''m also little bugged by how it looks, which I think is the cut, as it may be shallow. And yes here''s inclusions, I think they may actually be helping it though!

Am I wrong? is it just me being crazy?

So opinions welcomed! (yes even the honest ones *lol*)

This is the inside window sill in my closet

I actually really do like the color but I can see what you mean with it against your skin tone, I don't feel the compliment each other very well. Can you take a photo of the gemstone next to something yellow gold with your skin tone? that might be better.

Yeah, it doesn''t suite your skintone as well as that spess in my opinion.

I''ll have to take some other pics tomorrow for sure. (I worked for nearly 24 hours so I really need to sleep!) I *think* i have some yellow gold pieces around somewhere.

Wow, I do really like that stone. I too, understand what you mean about it next to your skin though. But I think the nail polish color might be throwing it off. Perhaps if they were a lighter color (or gasp, polishless!) then it might make a difference?

I agree, perhaps lighter nailpolish might help, or a French manicure. Incidently, I wear stones that kind of clash with my skin tone as well. However, the stones are nice and speak for themselves. If you do love it, and if you think you got a great deal on it, that might be something to consider as well. I wear gems more for my enjoyment than others. It's a very pretty stone, and a nice setting.

Hi A
I remembered you posted in my threads that you "ordered a hot pink spinel"
I actually see quite alot of pink in the 2nd and 3rd photo so that is great!
The 1st photo might not have light coming through the bottom of the ring or something to lighten the colour.
It looks like AJS did well here.
Do you happen to have a vendor photo to compare?
Thanks!
=)

what a beautiful stone!!! i love the color its nice and bright. i too would love to see the vendor photo in comparison to yours. as my ajs purchase turned out much darker in the photo... i will link you to the thread to show my case in point ... the color change was very strong, but the stone was so much darlker in real life. so to see yours so bright and beautiful, i think its gorgeous. can we see yellow gold and rose gold too? do you like rose gold? or is that too much pink?

im loving the gold these days, and im a platinum girl... thanks pricescope for opening my world =]
thanks to you arcadian, i too now must have a spess!!! hee hee thats how amazing the stones you pick are...
and i especially love the gem you have in your icon

sorry waaaaaayyyyyy off topic... but i think the spinel is BEAUTIFUL

Haha I looked at the pics first, and I thought how perfect it looked against your skin

I don't know anything about the cut quality, but I do love the contrast of that bright pink against the white against your lovely dark skin.

Very lovely spinel.

IMO, the color looks sexy, suits the setting nicely and it looks nice on your skin. I think you only need to change your nail polish. A French manicure perhaps as suggested by TL.

I''ve got to admit that I love the contrast against your skin. It really is neon and yummy! Got to agree that it might look better without nail polish or maybe just a clear nail varnish?

Love the stone, love the setting...not sure I am loving them together. I think the stone could be a lovely pendant...maybe with a pearl or diamond?

Arcadian, I think it looks stunning and *sexy*

against your skin. Like other''s mentioned, if you change the color of your nail polish, IMHO, it''s going to look absolutelic marvelous and yummy. The color of the gemstone is gorgeous.

The stone is quite a pretty colour; I’m interested in seeing how it fairs with yellow gold and both the stone & setting on your hand. My opinion is that it stands out (I’m positive and don’t think of it as clashing). It’s better than having it look like your skin tone and blend in.

I like the stone and setting. I think it looks nice against your skin.

Here''s the original vendor pic

I took these this morning. Look ma, no black nail polish! I have a meeting to go to and I havent had a chance to repaint. (but my black season is nearly over)

This is on something gold-ish. to me it looks redder on gold. I''ve got to get to this meeting but I''ll take some more pics this afternoon.

It is amazing in yellow gold; the colour appears more intense.

Honestly I don''t find it amazing in the setting you intended, mostly because of the combo with the skin tone. But I do think it looks much better against yellow gold, and I think it could look stunning in an antique type of setting. In fact, I''d exclude any diamonds from the setting and even think about something that would either be a real antique setting or something that would mimic it, so that it has some dark patina on. Maybe that would help connect all the colors with your skin tone.

Lovely stone Arcadian! I think it looks better in yellow gold and removing the nail polish definitely helped.

I second what ma re said about trying to find an antique setting or replicating one. I think that would be stunning!

Looks great with your skin color and I like it with the gold. Lovely stone. As to setting ideas, I have a similar spinel (though more pink, less red) and it will be set by BGD in a setting w/ a ribbony halo, if that is any help :)

I think it is stunning! I will leave it as it is in white gold and in fact, I think it will look great with nail polish that is a similar colour, a deep/dark pink varnish will go perfectly.

Having seen the stone on your hand with no nail polish, I definitely think there''s clashing going on and that it looks fabulous. I actually like it in the white gold and in the current setting, but I don''t there''s much that won''t make this stone look amazing.

By the way, care to post picts of your vendor photo and your photos in the vendor comparison thread? It would definitely help those of us who are seeking out a glowy stone like yours.

i must say that the AJS photo is pretty representative of the actual stone.
thats a good thing.
what do you think A?

the stone and ring look small on your finger to my eye.

i''m not a halo fan and i''m not sure this halo setting is doing the stone any favors.

however, i think an east/west setting would cover your finger better, show the stone better, and perhaps look better to your eye, too. even an oval halo would improve the look.

i also think that the fingernail polish isn''t helping the situtation. don''t get me wrong! i think its a lovely color and looks lovely on you! but it detracts from the stone and the ring in general. i rich burgandy/merlot/pinot color might improve the performance on your finger.

having said all the above, i think you have a nice stone. it deserves to be a star in its own right. again, i think an east/west setting is going to look better for you.

Just back from my meeting (which needs its own damn thread...
14.gif
) All, I know my nailpolish selections can be a little...odd
2.gif
But you haven''t seen me with the blue on (yet)
25.gif

But I do have to take into account I''m not always going to wear a red or burgandy and that I do tend to wear black or neon green or what have you.

I''ve read through everyone responses, and I personally thank everyone for them.

Mark, I think the stone is spot on for color so I wouldn''t hesitate ordering again from AJS. It does hold its own in every light, but does appear its reddest in incandescent and low natural light. I think its to be expected. Its very vibrant IRL, which isn''t always captured in the pictures.

Mr MaRe & Chrono, I totally hear what you''re saying. My eyes aren''t too happy with how they combine either. (I knew it wasn''t just me!) Gold does seem to make it pop more but to me it makes it seem more red. I don''t think thats a terrible thing as long as I don''t lose much of the pink element.

tsavvy, thanks for that. It does help! Do you have a design for your ring? if so I''d love to see it.

Zombie, I don''t know if I would actually be able to get away with going east/west on my hands because they''re stubby (this is why I let my nails grow so long) though I just need to admit defeat that this setting just dosen''t really do it for this stone. (bummer
7.gif
).

After hearing everyone''s thoughts, looks like the general consensus is to probably go with yellow gold at least for the head. (I have to admit, I still want some diamonds in there!!)

The setting is so nice, but this pairing isn''t really destined to work out. I''ve looked at it so much during the last 24 hours and it just bugs me to no end. That said, its a no go.

Oh and I did take a picture of the stone with a penny URGH!
32.gif
it was a nasty combo and Im not even gonna post it!

Certainly an antique setting would look good, but its a matter of actually finding one. (any ideas in that area would be really helpful!!)

Now I just have to see what is left in my jewelery budget! ( But budgets are meant to stretch, right

)

You guys and gals totally rawk!

Thank you so much for your forthright thoughts and comments!

Wow, that''s a pretty colour, and the AJS photo is certainly close. I think it maybe needs less metal around it, perhaps e/w, but maybe even a pillbox or lotus from Sally?
