I need help!

Hello everyone! I am so glad I have found this forum, as I am currently trying very hard to understand how to choose the best stone! If anyone can help with advice, it would be much appreciated. I have decided on either an Radiant, Asscher or Cushion cut - so first question , does anyone have opinions on these cuts that will help me decide which one?
Next, to the hard stuff...I have read the education session on this site, but am still having trouble understanding the finer points, such as the table and depth %. Can someone Please tell me what is an acceptable range for the abovementioned fancy cuts?
Also I noticed that girdle is impt-again, what would be acceptable to look for in these cuts?
I would love the help, as right now I feel like I''m trawling through hundreds of stones/rings online with only a faint idea of what I''m looking at...
Also, any other pointers on important things to look out for (after the four C''s, of course...)

go too www.goodoldgold.com and click on the video link and watch a ton of videos and or visit some stores and see some stones and decide which you really want.

Your question is too wide a range to answer in an understandable way with less than a book .

It is very difficult to choose fancy shapes by the numbers and cushions are no exception. It is best to work with a skilled vendor as Storm says and look at as many as you can in person and online, to see what you like. Then a vendor can find you some cushions to look at, and advise you.

Things such as ASET can really be helpful when looking also. Read more in this thread.

thankyou lorelei for your reply...since my post i have Much research and have been spending hours looking on WF and James Allen. I have decided against a cushion, and now am trying to decide between asscher and radiant. I think I am leaning towards the Asscher, however it is difficult as I am in Australia and this cut is not common here in the shops, plus the photos online are often just stock images.
Any advice on what to look out for when selecting a great Asscher, or any posts off the top of ur head i should follow?

Hey there! I too have been going through the debate about Radiant''s vs Cushions. I love the Asscher''s but my BF does not, so they got axed off the bat..

What made you decide against the Cushion?

Jane, Storm is our resident Asscher enthusiast, lets keep this thread bumped so he will see it and he can help you to find a kicken Asscher as he would say! Also I would say to contact someone like Jon at Good old Gold and let him help you, if you are considering buying online. Vendors such as Jon often have in house diamonds with the cut analysis done, that way you can see photos and info on the actual diamond. Also you could try Whiteflash as they too may be able to help you. The main things you need to help choose a great Asscher are pics, both magnified and normal size at as many angles as possible, also ASET images and Idealscope do not hurt! But the photographs are essential to be able to choose.

Hi crooked rock, I know, its so hard to decide isn''t it! I can''t really give you a technical answer re counting out the cushions, it''s more just a personal decision, as I already have a ring with round brilliants and am looking for something different.. I''m pretty much a novice, but what i found with the cushion is that the ones with larger facets, not su much the "crushed ice" look, are more appealing, but this of course is just another personal thing!
I have been looking alot on whiteflash and also james allen, which so far i have found both to have excellent selections..it''s now just a matter of narrowing my search! Its a shame you partner doesn''t like asschers, i think they''re great-very original.
