Hi All,

I am new to this forum and have spent quite a significant amount of time browsing this website. I am hoping someone can help me with a diamond that I am thinking about purchasing. Here is the information. Please let me know if this is a decent diamond (with cut, price, etc).

Report Type: GIA Diamond Grading Report

Square Modified Brilliant

Measurements: 5.41 x 5.28 x 4.06 mm

Carat Weight: 1.01

Color Grade: D

Clarity Grade: VS1

Proportions:

Depth: 76.9 %

Table: 70 %

Girdle: Medium to Very Thick

Culet: None

Finish:

Polish: Excellent

Symmetry: Very Good

Fluorescence: None

The price is $6400.

If there''s any, what other information should I retrieve to learn more about this diamond. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The depth is a little to deep for me, and also the table is quite big. but the price seems Ok for this cut
quality.

Is this stone at the top of your budget as i would suggest a better cut diamond it will have a better
spread and have more life.

is this the type of thing your looking at - here
(just so i''m clear)

Paul: Thanks for your reply. Can you give me some tips in determining quality depth and table. This stone is at the top of my budget and if there''s something else you think would be better please let me know. I don''t mind going down on the grade or clarity a bit to have a better cut diamond that is more sparkly.

Lord_Summerisle: The diamond is from a b&m store.

ideally you should be closer to 53-58% on the table and 58-63% on depth if that helps.
You'll pay more for a D color than and F, G or H.
I'd slide down the color a little and look for a G or H color and even look at SI1's and better proportions on the cut.

Ringabling,
P-A is looking for a square modified brilliant stone aka Princess cut, which are typically cut deeper (in the 70s) and with a larger table (60s to low 70s).

P-A,
Unfortunately, without a picture of the stone or ASET scan, I cannot determine the cut of the stone, and it is the cut that determines the sparkle factor of the diamond. GIA doesn't have cut grades on their stones, so I'd suggest getting an AGS0 certed stone since they are graded by light performance. To maximise your budget, you can drop down as far as a H SI1 with a AGS0 stone.

ACK!!

My mistake! I missed that very important line that clearly reads:

Square Modified Brilliant

my apologies!!!

Chrono: Thanks for your input. I''ve seen some ASET scan but I am a bit confuse for the princess cut. For the round cut, I can kind of understand if it''s a good. Do you know where I can go to find out more information about the ASET scan for princess cuts?

Thanks Chrono. I will be looking at the site.
