Ellen I am so sorry and I wish I could give you a hug. I can imagine how sick and angry you are feeling, I know I would too. I too think it is a good idea to sit back for a while to recharge yourself, then I bet it can be fixed, especially as experts such as Bruce have said so. Hang in there my dear and know that we understand.

Ellen,
I just now saw this. SOOOO sorry - hugs!!! I don''t have any useful advice but it sounds like you are well on the way to getting it resolved. I used to be a serious musician and years ago sent an instrument off to an "expert" several states away for repairs that I didn''t trust the local guys to do. It came back well repaired, but the repair person carved his initials into the wood of the instrument in a visible spot. I was livid, and am mad all over again thinking about it! I never told him that I was upset (since it couldn''t be undone) but I wish I had. So I sort of know how you feel.

surfgirl, thanks for thinkin of me. Yes, I''m much better now.

I can''t say I''m anxiously awaiting any news, as there really isn''t anything this man can say to excuse what he did or make me feel better....

Bruce, thank you so much for your post. You hit the nail on the head, there was no reason to do this to my ring. It was ALL so unnecessary. And yes, I''ll find someone else to fix it.

Does this mean now you can say you''ve seen it all? *smiles weakly at trying to find humor in this*

Lorelei, I wish you could give me a hug too, I could use one.

Thanks friend, and yes, this too shall pass...

Gail, OMG, your story is awful!! And again, as here, it begs the question, WHY??? WHAT was he thinking? I guess you can relate.

And thanks for the hugs.

I''ve been checking this thread regularly to see if you''ve decided on anything yet. What are your plans now Ellen?

My plans at the moment are to get ready to go to a wedding out of town, we leave on the 7th. I''ll worry about the ring when I get back. I may get a note off to them before I leave if I find time, but I''m not gonna rush things.

Thanks for asking Chrono.

I''m just checking up on you. {{{Hugs}}}

I''m glad Bruce chimed in to let you know it''s fixable.

Thanks lump!

And I just realized, as I had reworded my post to Chrono that I forgot to put back in that I have a couple jewelers in mind to fix it, that''s who I was referring to when I said I may get a note off to them. Sorry if I caused any confusion.
20.gif

Update.

No, not from the jeweler, I''ll never hear from him.
20.gif

At the suggestion of someone, I contacted an extremely well respected jeweler whose work I''ve seen. They had to decline on fixing my ring, they don''t do restorations. However, they were kind enough to clue me in on an important detail.

Apparently WG from the turn of the century is more brittle, and they said if the person fixing it isn''t familiar with it, they can do more harm than good.

Cehra, you''re right, I should say who the jeweler is, GOD FORBID any poor soul send anything to them.

Ellen, I was thinking about this ring and of course you. I am sorry. It is so beautiful!

Glad you gave the jewlers name.

Aw, thank you Skippers.

so, did you find anyone else who might be willing to do it? that was very cool that this person was honest with you..

Yes I did mrss, as a matter of fact, I put it in the mail yesterday. I really don''t want to elaborate right now though, I''m affraid of jinxing it. I''m not normally supersticious, but with my luck....
20.gif

And yes, it was very nice of the other jeweler to clue me in.

When I have something positive to report, you all will be the first to know.

What a coinkydink, Mr. Kozlowski just called. Seems he was going through some paperwork and found my invoice. So he called to find out if everything was ok and to get payment I guess. Says he never got my message...
11.gif

So, long story short, he saw nothing wrong with what he did.

I told him he mauled my heirloom ring, he laughed and said I exaggerate.
20.gif
I then said I had sent it off to someone else to fix.

He justified "adding" the beads at 12,3,6 and 9 for security. Said we talked about it.
29.gif
So I reminded him exactly how the two conversations REALLY went (1 prework, 1 postwork with no "discussions inbetween), and told him if he HAD asked me about doing that, I would have told him no.

I then pointed out how he had even gone up so far as to take some metal out of the milligrain edge. He then informed me how it was old (milligrain) and not as sharp as it should have been. I still can''t get what that was all about. I mean, so what?? So it was easier to gouge? So it was old and ok to do that? Who knows.
20.gif

We kept going back and forth, as I wasn''t about to let him off the hook. He kept saying he had to do it for security, I kept saying no he didn''t, the ring had made it 80+ years just fine.

So then he says, we can do two things. Send it to him to fix
23.gif
or, send it to whomever. I said it''s already sent.

He was then concerned enough to warn me that if they weren''t careful, they could mess it up. *blank stare*

No charge. How nice.

Honestly, it''s all been good for a laugh, in a strange kind of way...

Oh, Ellen, I don''t know what to say... I think I would have been hard pressed to not sound hysterical if I were you during that conversation.

OMG Ellen, I don''t know how you didn''t go crazy on him. What an absolute idiot. Laughing and saying you were exaggerating?! WOW. At least you got the opportunity to give him what for!

I''m keeping my fingers crossed for your ring to come back perfect this time!

He said you were *exaggerating*? I would have EXAGGERATED that idiot right upside his head!!! HOW DARE HE?!?

Here''s more fairy dust toward getting a perfect ring back!

Chrono, it''s funny. I said to hubby after I got off the phone, if he was ever going to call, this was the perfect time. I had gotten over the initial hysteria, and had finally relaxed a bit, "hoping" all goes well at the new jewelers. So I was quite calm, but yet quite blunt. It was the perfect combo.

2, thanks. Yes, he surely did get it. I''m sure he''s sorry he called.
5.gif
And yeah, when he laughed and said that, I let him know other professionals had seen it and agreed with me. Not much else was said about that.
25.gif

Dee, really, it''s a good thing he didn''t show up at my door.

And thankies for the dust.

Yeah, at this point he should cut his losses and apologize instead of saying that you exaggerated! I had a bad jewelry store experience once...arg, how frustrating. I will cross my fingers the repair at the new place goes well.

Ditto!

I really hope that your ring is returned to you.. boo boo free.

Awwww Ellen, what a turd that guy is. When you get the ring back, leave a big imprint of it on his forehead so he can see how 'secure' it is without all the crap he had done to ruin it!!
11.gif
Good for you for making him accountable in your phone convo.

I hope it comes back fixed to your heart's content.
