My husband and I are looking for a new diamond and engagement ring. I am most likely going with blue nile, only because it seems like I can get the most carat for my buck. I have narrowed down some choices for round brilliants at around 1.5 carats. 1 of them has great spread but I am concerned about a knot shown on the gia appraisal. Can someone tell me if it might be an issue? I have also included some other links to diamonds we are considering, if anyone can chime in on what they would go with, please do! we are looking for around 1.5 carat, j color, very good, ideal cut and clarity between vs2 to vvs1, I also want the diamond to look it's weight :) Thanks!

So do you think the knot is an issue, hearts and arrow aren't important to me:) thanks for your input!

A knot is a tiny encapsulated diamond crystal within the diamond that happens to be at the surface. Think of it as a knot in a piece of lumber. Sometimes during polishing knots are pulled out leaving a cavity. Cavities are usually easier to see than knots. This one appears somewhat sizeable though and may be visible to the naked eye. (Fortunately it comes to the surface on the pavilion side). It also appears to be in a position that it may be partially concealed with a prong. You can check with the vendor on find out about both things.

thank you so much for your help. I think we will cross it off the list. There was one other diamond I came across if you can take a look. I was ruling out si1's but changed my search parameters out of curiosity. http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD05829094
It has twinning wisps and strong blue fluorescence. I've asked blue nile if it is eye clean, they say they can find out. It seems like everything I've read about twinning wisps is that it might be ok or might not. Do you have any insight? Thanks again :)

A lot of people like twinning wisps as a clarity grade setter as they tend to be vague and largely transparent features- difficult to see with the naked eye. But if too concentrated they can sometimes scatter light and diminish the diamond's crispness. Some folks also like fluorescence but the issue has pros and cons that need to be understood before you can tell if it is right for you. You can learn more about fluoro here:
