Rain is forecast this weekend with sunshine and high of 83 on Monday. I may take a run for the day and overnight to give my new instructions a try. (Expert there last time told me I was wasting too much time admiring the gravel  and that I need to get down to business if I want to find a diamond. Plus, I have a saruca now.)

Anyone interested? It is in southwest Arkansas.

I went to the diamond mines in Arkansas when I was a kid! I found a green "crystal" and I was so excited that I had an emerald.
Turned out to be a broken piece of a sprite bottle! :x

Good luck!!! I hope you find one!!!

Haha! Yes, I have a few of those. (My big thread on this shows some green chromium diopside I found)

I have some pieces I need to bring back to see what they are, but my guess is quartz and calcite.

Best of luck! Find a BIG one!

I might be there for one day in August... part of an eclipse trip. Still working out the details, but it's looking possible.

Ooh, keep me posted! I'll give you tips!

What a great idea to go after all this rain we'll be getting over the next few days! You know I live in southeast Arkansas, right? But it's still more than a two hour drive for me, and we begin our vacation Monday. Honestly, I would probably slow you down because I haven't had much endurance on my past trips. But it would be so neat to learn from you because I have no skills! Have you found a diamond yet? I've followed your other posts and don't think you said you had--yet--but I'm sure it's soon for you with all your determination and all you've learned along the way. Have a great time and let us know how it goes!

Gah! DH and I went to SW AR on a mini vacay 3 months ago and I soooo wanted to do this. It was too cold and the day we got back there was an article in the news about a teen who found a big diamond. Hope I'm reading about your big find soon.

NO! I didn't know you live close! We for sure will have to meet up. I really enjoyed going on the off season this past October-March. You wouldn't slow me down! Sometimes my 62 year old friend comes with me... we just do our thing and she takes her breaks whenever and she works the area she wants to.

I don't think I have found a diamond yet. I have a vial of some stones to check, but I'm nearly certain they are water quartz.

I belong to an online diamond hunter group and last time I met up with one of the guys who gave me a 30 minute lesson using my equipment, and now I feel confident I can really scale down the equipment I take and my take home and focus in on centers. He only takes his centers home, so he brings home not even a half of a five gallon bucket of rocks to sort through. He has found several, though most are small (like 10-20 point).

I may not be able to go Monday. I was assuming (hoping) DH's reunion would be cancelled since it is on the gulf coast, but it appears to still be on now. (Bummer)

Rain plus a high of 83 is sooooooo tempting though!!!

I'll holler at you when I for sure go and maybe we can work it out. If I don't go Monday, I can practically guarantee it won't be until end of September when I go again. I can't tolerate the heat.

Lol. Yeah, I love it for them but hate it for me. I enjoy it so much though, that I would keep going even if I found "the big one". I've gotten to know several of the regulars who have found multiple diamonds, including larger ones. The people and environment are special there.

You're so kind. Hopefully sometime I can join you! I've been before in July and it was so hot out there. But if you want to tag me on PS to let me know about a future trip, you can, or you can swap email addresses with me if you can find my LT listing. I have the same LT name as I do on PS. :)

@daintyG what is the thing you made a listing for?

Ok, actually you can't search my username for some reason, but if you search OEC you'll find the listing.

If you go in Sept I might be able to join as I am in NE TX. I've never been and would like to go at some point. I'm off to MI next week. So excited for cooler temps.

Cool! This would be so much fun if we can pull off a group visit!

I was there last week! IMG_5070.JPG

(No, that's not me... just another diamond seeker who we happened upon.) I'd have let you know, whitewave, but our schedule on this trip is very fluid. We had less than two hours in the mine itself, which was OK given the temps and high humidity. We were fortunate enough to get like the last spot on the campground, which is quite nice and has SHOWERS. I do hope to go back and spend more time sometime when the weather is more accommodating!

We are going the week of Thanksgiving!

The weather should be much more accomodating then! Enjoy - and, - good luck!

:appl:Did you feel the good energy there? Did you bring gravel home to sort through? @VRBeauty

Whitewave: No on the bucket of gravel. We have six weeks worth of stuff for two (including camping gear) stuffed into an older version MINI Clubman. We saw a bunch of "buy one pair (of western boots) get two free" as we walked along Broadway in Nashville, and joked that we didn't have enough room for even that first pair!

I did have fun though and would love to go back some time.

Who knew digging in the dirt could be so much fun?!
