Hi ladies: Been lurking on this thread for a few days and it's awesome. So nice how all of you share such positive and not so positive things daily. Is it ok if I chime in once in a while? This is nice!

Here's my in put for the day. I have recently decided to become a Child Advocate for the State of California. In summary, it's a person who takes on a Foster Child and becomes that one consistent role model in their life. I am so excited about this new adventure. Just began my training last night and I look forward to taking on a foster child in a month or so. This is a child who will be placed with a family however, I will be in charge of being their "voice" through the court system. I've been wanting to do this for years and now that I am an empty nester, the time is right!

Love your new kitty Toopatient. I too am a local cat rescuer. I don't home them however, I'll rescue a cat a few times a year, turn it over to the local rescue lady, I've come to know her quite well! And I pay the vet bills, etc. It's my way of giving back to the animal population. Last cat I found was back in November. I rescued "Sammy" from a dumpster. So nice to see others taking in cats - so many need homes!

Thank you ladies, for allowing me to chime in on your thread! Have a wonderful day. :wavey:

I researched becoming a child advocate too, Queenie, but with my DHs schedule, I didn't know if I could commit (and still be there when needed for my own family). I will be interested to see how it works out for you and maybe it will be something that I can finally do too when my kids go off to college:)

In this very fast spring real estate market where properties are going under contract within days -- if not hours -- of being listed, and when you tell people this VERY CLEARLY and then they call you a week after seeing something and say they want to make an offer... and they're wildly disappointed when you tell them it's under contract (!) how much sympathy can you be expected to generate...???

People people people. You're killin' me!

Hi Momhappy: So far, so good! I toured the court today and was able to sit in on a few cases. My most difficult thing to overcome with this is that I will not be able to see the parents perspective and I may be too judgmental of someone who emotionally and/or physically abused a child. This I will need to overcome. As far as advocating for a child - this will bring joy to my heart, especially if I can make a positive impact upon their life.

LOL I hear you Dee Jay and feel your pain. You tell them the facts but they hear what they want to hear and then are surprised when what you told them becomes reality. ::)

Queenie, good luck with being a child advocate. What a wonderful thing to undertake! :appl:

Natylad - that is a gorgeous blue!! You can gaze at that beauty and get lost in it and pretend you are swimming in blue waters in a vacation paradise (instead of being at work)

I called a local nursery earlier this week and they said they would have 3-5 gallon hydrangeas by the end of the week. They have late hours today (till 8 PM), so I'm hoping to go and pick out some plants. I hope they have a perfect hydrangea for ME and I'm hoping to find my little dwarf globe blue spruce tonight as well. The landscapers are going to dig up the big blocky bush in front of my house on Wednesday or Thursday to transplant onto my neighbor's property. If I have my plants ready, I can ask them to plant them the same day. Fingers crossed!

Naty -- Beautiful!

Pinto -- Have fun! I hope you find just the right hydrangea. They are such pretty plants.

DH is going in for "meet and greet" at company today. Sort of first interview. Really hoping it goes well! 2pm start. I am stuck waiting anxiously until he texts after... I hate the wait!

Most children (all that have shared their lives with us) want their family back. Playing a role in that can be very special.

".......that one consistent role model in their life." Would you please explain what you meant by this.

Good luck on your new adventure. It's quite an eye opener.

First in person went extremely well! Now we wait for them to schedule a technical interview and a full day of multiple interviews. Really hoping they keep it moving! Would love to have it lined up so no gap in his work.

Informal interview with hiring manager from a different company tomorrow. Guy is building a team and worked with B before.

Excited, nervous, happy, anxious... So many emotions!

I'm taking a test on Tuesday and I'm getting nervous. I really need to pass, and I'm not super confident because of the vast amount of information. :( I've taken practice tests and am at least passing them, but wish I were getting higher scores....

Pinto, there's a special fertilizer to give your Hydrengia plants. Depending on the acid levels you can change their color to pink, or something else. Talk to the specialists at the gardening store. My gardener explained this to me last year. I don't completely understand how it works so I just allow him to do it. That's why I pay him the big bucks!!!! Love the hdrengia plants and Hastas, etc. I have a "strawberry hydrengia tree" in my yard and it's amazing when it blooms. I'll take some pictures when it's in bloom (probably in June) and will show you this fabulous tree. Love your plants PB

Hi Joe: "The one consistent role model in their life" - I'll try to explain; Most of these children have been traumatized due to domestic violence, not necessarily towards them but witnessing it between their parents/guardians day in and day out. They have suffered from continual broken promises. Some have been born with drugs and/or alcohol in their systems. Every adult in their short little lives have been their parents and/or guardians; social workers; judges, attorneys. All "authoritative" persons. I am being trained to step in and be that one person who will take them to a restaurant, take them to the park, a ball game; in the case of a girl, or boy - anything that can give them peace and joy. I will be the one person who is not an authority figure or their parent/guardian who has continued to make promises to them that they can't keep. Get to know the child on a one-on-one basis, establish trust, and to just listen to their hopes, dreams, concerns, etc. Also, to be able to step in and advocate for them in the event I feel they will need special educational services, psychological treatment and anything else to help with their needs. And on a monthly basis write a report to the courts, summarizing my thoughts about this child or anything else that can give the attorney's, judge, social worker, etc. an idea as to steps to take to help the child.

Hope this explains - I know I am rambling. In summary, I am excited about this and feel that if I can make a difference, one child at a time then my role here is worth my time and energy. I feel that children are our future and if we can take time to help them to be healthy and happy human beings, our world can be a better place.

Queenie,
What a wonderful thing to do. I am sure you will find it very rewarding, the children will love the time they spend with you and the foster parent will like knowing someone else cares about the child. Good for you. You will be helping the truly needy, the truly innocent. Please keep posting about your new adventure.
Thank you for answering my question,
Joe

Thank you Joe - will keep you posted as to how it's going. My training will end in early May at which time I will be sworn into the courts as an officer. Then will come the time to review several case files to match a child up with me. Very exciting.

I'm ending the day feeling a bit overwhelmed :(sad . The downside to being a comtractor is that my time sheet has to be approved before I get paid. Usually, it's been approved by Monday, but no approval yet even though I sent a reminder email this AM. The cut off is Wednesday at 11AM, so I have some time...

My parents are going out of town tonight, which means I will be juggling two households for two weeks until dad comes home first. The dogs are let out 4x a day, the cat is easy. They've had mice problems lately and caught 3. Yay. So I have dog duty, cat duty, and mice duty.

I'm on my HOA board and I've been told that I'm one of two people who give a crap about the community. Yay. :wall: Our annual meeting is tomorrow night, and there has been some behind the scenes campaigning for me to be President, which is quite flattering to me because all I asked for was any office/title this year other than general member because I wanted something to show on my CV  . One of the board members is a notorious misogynist so he may be appalled to have a female HOA board president.

DH took a sick day today bc he woke up feeling lousy - I suspect allergies, a dose of anxiety over the upcoming doc appointment, and a big dose of I hate my job (he griped a lot on Sunday).

Wednesday the landscapers are coming to transplant the bush. I want to be there to make sure they are careful not to ding the post next to the bush.

I hate having to time things... 15 mins to parents house. Flip on laptop by 9AM... I'm stopping here lolol... I probably need a good nights sleep. End rant...

Ok, guys: Today is the testing day! Please send prayers my way, I am feeling well right now, so hopefully that won't change. I do have a plan for both outcomes, but I'm so praying that I pass. There are other things that haven't happened, which are a good thing, so hopefully they will delay longer. I hate being so vague with all of this....

Thanks Cozystitches! Even though DH forgot to feed the cats this AM (to give me relief from one AM duty), the kitties were on their BEST behavior! Once I got to my parents' home, the kitty came out to say hello - that is, where's my tuna snack (I hate giving out tuna, but she's 18 years old, so she gets whatever she wants), and the dogs were being good. NO mouse traps activated - phew! My parents - OMG - "If you catch a mouse, take the trap outside and when you release it, open it on this side because it's nicer to let the mouse out head first as opposed to tail first. Then wash the trap and you see this bottle? We paid $5 for it and it's supposed to be even better than peanut butter or cheese - just squeeze some on this end and set up the trap again." :-o  :o :( :???: NICER head first?!?! Clearly, they've thought about this a lot

GOOD LUCK COZYSTITCHES!!!!!!

Wow. That is a lot to do!

I hope you are doing well today. At least you know the cat/dogs/mice challenge will be over in just 2 weeks. You won't know what to do with all the extra time when your dad gets back!

Thank you all for your prayers and dust! I PASSED!!!!! I needed a 220 to pass, and I earned a 229. :D It was close, but it doesn't matter to me as the money and time I spent were worth it! Now to wait more information that will hopefully lead to where I'm wanting to go. :)
