What a great thread! Thanks for the fun for those that collect and love old and fine timepieces.i would take the G.P square case watch.i think it is more wearable with todays jewelry designs as well as vintage looks. Also i am considering the repairability of each watch and it will be easiier to replace problem parts on the G.P. watch which is still in business and as was stated earlier very respected and collectable. It will be difficult if impossible in the future to keep the round watch in running order. Please be careful who works on cleaning and repairing these old timepieces.Make sure that they have experiance and have a reputation for doing so.THANKS for sharing!

I also think my mom''s giving her more jewelry because she feels sorry for her. Not married, nor will she ever be, no kids, etc.....

That is exactly the case on my end. My mother always says, "well you have a husband to buy for you". My sister is a lesbian, so my mother feels guilty and therefore gives her everything, even all of the sentimental things from my grandmother

She gets the china, crystal, silver, everything. . .

oh ellen, i can''t believe i missed this before! i''m glad it got a bump so i could find it. those watches are just amazing! lucky you! i know which one i would pick for me!

the good thing is, you are going to have a beautiful and treasured heirloom with whichever one you pick. and you DO need to pick you know! what''s the fun in it if you can''t wear it!?

I definitely agree the square "goes" with styles today much more.

One thing you said though, that makes me think I should take the round one, is that my sister pretty much lives hand to mouth. I don''t think she''d have the money to repair it as it needs... Which leads me to, why do you think it would be almost impossible to keep running?

Thanks for the advice, and I''m so glad you enjoyed the thread!

I too, missed this thread first time around. And it''s funny because I did see the one "show me your antique watches." I am not going to be much help, because I would be as indecisive as you. My first thought, when I saw the very first 2 pictures, was I liked nanny''s. That was before I saw how the face of Aunt Jo''s needs so much cleaning, which became clear in the next photo ( so in other words it had nothing to do with the face needing cleaning). But with photo #3, I do like the rounded shape of AJ''s. Although I think I like nanny''s band better. Got to the 1st wrist shot, and I was like, "wow, I love it on her wrist!" (i.e AJ''s) Must admit, nanny''s looks pretty darn good on your wrist too! Plus I love how clean and bright nanny''s looks. But that 1st wrist shot of AJ''s - I really like how the rounded frame looks. Somehow it seems there is more antique charm in AJ''s than nanny''s.

I think I would not be able to decide until I investigated the cleaning etc..., and maybe not until I got Aunt Jo''s clean. If it cleaned up nicely, and I was leaning toward it as you seem to be, I''d keep it. If not, I''d keep nanny''s. Bummer that you don''t get to keep more of the jewelry!

[I was lucky when we cleaned out DH''s aunt''s house; I kept both the antique watches that I found, although 1 doesn''t work and they''re nowhere near as nice as yours. Plus Aunt gave me all her mom''s (DH''s grandmom''s) best jewelry.

Anyway, whatever watch you keep I know you will love. Let us know!!

Ellen,

I missed this thread and just found it. Both of the watches are so beautiful, it would be so hard to pick.

I have one from my grandmother and it is square, so I am partial.!!!

ellen,
two reasons why i made the statement about it being difficult to impossible to repair in the future.1-watches this old dont have worn out parts widely available because watch part manufactors discontinue parts for watches this old.2-The repairmen able to repair and fabricate generic parts for these old watches are dying and few younger watch professionals are learning to repair these types of timepieces.
