I read through that entire thread, but the price was never posted. It was too old to have meaningful prices anyway. I do think the ring was beautiful but wider and heavier than many girls here prefer. Custom settings and designer settings are generally more expensive than the typical jewelry store settings. Mark Morrell stays pretty busy, but he has a couple of designs that he can produce pretty quickly. I''d take a look at Maytal Hannah and Leon Mege''s sites if you want to see some other beautiful custom rings. I''d say most settings with diamonds in the setting will run from $3000-5000 or more depending on the designer. A simple platinum custom setting with no diamonds runs around $1500.

I am going to put my 2 cents in. You have got some fantastic advice here, but IMHO opinion, I don''t think you should pick the size of her diamond by the level of your income. Yes, maybe determine your max budget with your income, but not the size. My partner has a fantastic income, and using this rationale, I would end up with a 1.25 - 1.5ct stone also. However, I have just decided on a 0.8ct stone and now I am starting to freak that it''s going to look too big on my 5.25 finger. What I am trying to get at is the perception of size varies greatly from one woman to another. I would have been disappointed with a larger stone (ouch, one of those tomatoes just hit me!!

, as I wouldn''t have felt comfortable wearing it.

You know your girlfriend the best, if you think she would be comfortable with a larger stone and can pull it off, go ahead, but if she is a bit more reserved and less showy, maybe a smaller high colour / clarity ideal cut stone would be awesome.

Hoping I still have some PS friends.........

I completely agree with you. My girlfriend is not reserved at all, and I think could definitely pull it off. And wow, 5.25! Those hands should make any rock look huge. My girlfriend is a size 7, maybe a little smaller, so I''m assuming I''ll need to account for that as well.

So basically, due to my income, our social circle, her hands, and her flashiness I''m gonna need to dig deep! lol
