I bought an ACA—help with pendant setting, please!

Beautiful Diamond! Due to the size and quality of the diamond, I would want it to be as versatile as possible, so if it were MY pendant, I would get it set in a slide, so that I can wear it with chains of varying lengths and metal colors depending on the occasion! I have a solitaire pendant with a platinum bail which I normally wear on a rhodium plated white gold chain, but I also change to a 18kt yellow gold chain when I wear yellow gold jewelry (which seems to be more popular right now). Just my 2 cents.

Stunning!

I think in your case I’d stick with plat for the chain as your collection is plat for the most part.

Regarding length I do think anatomy can affect flipping/tilting.
I am working on a small pendant project right now and playing around with options I have found that my chest angles such that pendants have to sit a little lower otherwise they face upwards too much. I like the look of very short pendants that hug the neck but they don’t work in my anatomy. Like I could not wear a pendant as short as Catmom’s or Jennifer Garners in the images above because it would face towards the sky and flop all around bc the center of gravity was off. But a few inches lower and the angle is more outwards facing. Like M2Bs in the picture at the start of the thread or even a titch lower.

Ok, y’all, every time I have a project I realize that we should not build a house. Lots of decisions and I go into brain freeze. Which usually results in my choosing the option I initially thought I would, but after some time of agonizing about it.

Currently waffling over:
—Metal. I checked the price of gold vs platinum today and holy moly. Um. It’s not going to be the largest part of this but it did give me pause.
—Clasp. Spring ring vs. lobster. What is most secure? What looks best?
—lastly, does anyone know if Stuller uses nickel in their 18k yellow gold? I make all pieces hoping to hand them down to my daughter and she has a nickel allergy. Becca is going to investigate re: Stuller yg but I thought someone here might know.

This is such a smart idea for max versatility. I think it requires a bail, though. My brain is not a fan of a bail. I may continue to look and see if I can find an example of one I like.

I don't think it would require a bail, and from this angle of this random setting I found online, I think the space behind the prongs allows for a pretty thick chain, especially given the size of your diamond, it would be a fairly deep setting allowing for a thicker chain

It definitely does not require a bail.

I did think of six prongs to echo Viv! But there are not a whole lot of six prongs pendants out there that I can find. The ones I have seen have bails and I’m not a huge fan.

My other thought: I’m far less concerned about impact to a pendant. So I feel safe with four prongs here where I would prefer six on a ring. My goal is that any prongs would be so minimal they wouldn’t be noticeable anyway.

Have you seen six prong pendant designs that you like? If so would you mind sharing photos?

I found this 6 prong setting on Google images that doesn’t use a bale. I think what’s versatile is that, if the clasp is sufficiently small, you can thread the chain through the different spokes of the pendant and create a different look.

However, with a 4 prong, there is more distance between each spoke so it means the clasp and be bigger and accommodate wider chain lengths!

Re: metal, I think platinum is more classic. And esp if you do a removeable sliding pendant, you can buy various chains - I personally really like the thicker chain on Jennifer Garner but it wouldn’t necessarily be something I wear everyday.

Actually - have you tried out sliding vs fixed / different metal colours at home? Hopefully there are some CZ/silver/gold plated versions available online?

Someone has a pendant on a "chain" made of several very thin chains in mixed metal colors. I've always liked it.
Is that you @Catmom ? If it's not Catmom, I don't remember who it is. I just really liked the look.

Ah, just found it...it is Catmom's. On second thought, I'm not sure how it would do with a plain pendant. Plus, I
think it only works with a bail.

Anyway, here's the link if you want to have a look...

Yep that's me! While I love the look of this chain and wear it a lot, it really is a pain because the chains get tangled. Before each wearing I have to untangle it. I swear it even gets tangled in my jewelry container.

What a gorgeous diamond and I can't wait to see how it ends up for you. Congrats!!

Ok, it is in production!!!!!

Ended up going with a platinum chain and basket (so whole setting will be platinum). My daughter has a severe nickel allergy and I hope to hand this piece down to her one day. While WF thought their yellow gold was nickel free, they cannot 100% guarantee it, so I couldn’t take that risk.

It will be in a four corners setting. I am so excited! Doing tab prongs to match my ring.
