It's presently about an inch shorter than this "before" image (I took that right before my last trim)

I am debating cutting it somewhere between these:

Or just trimming it again. I can't make up my damn mind. I go this afternoon.

I think it looks great at the current length, but if you're itching for a change, I like both of the example cuts. It wouldn't be such a dramatic change that you'd immediately regret it, plus it would grow back.

I've been on a (failed) mission for YEARS to grow it past my boobs. I cannot seem to get it that long, it just gets so mangled in the ends (it's fine and fried...) that I need it cut before it ever gets much longer than current. I keep thinking if I cut it off a lot it might be less mangled, but then I just grow it right back out.

Meh. My hair isn't that wavy though, like Jessica Alba's.

I was going to reply to this with "I chopped my hair off last week!" but uh. I went waaaaaaaay shorter. Like, my longest hairs are now only around an inch long. My hair is shorter than my husband's. It was so gratifying to do, and I can now check "get pixie cut!" off my bucket list.

I'm always in favor of changing hairstyles. It grows back.

Your hair is beautiful:) If you are wavering, how about a gradual change? Take some length off it today, see how you like it, and then make a decision later about going shorter (maybe on your next visit).

Yes it does grow back...In a decade...

Thanks! I KINDA did that last time, like, I took a bigger trim than usual, which is why I am more brave I THINK this time. It gets SO tangled probably because it's so fine and there's so much of it and I like...chemically fry it. I feel brave til I sit down then I am like "trim."

I think you would look beautiful taking a little length off to show off your curls and create a bit of volume and movement. What about doing longer angles layers something like kate middleton or Carrie underwood?

Do it do it do it! It will frame your face beautifully. That said, I have to admit that I'm always pro cutting hair. It's so much fun and so refreshing!

Oh I don't have any curls. It's like...straight with the most annoying "crimp" in it. NO wave. NO curl. If it's curled or in any way attractive, that's the result of hot rollers. lol

If my hair was anywhere near as long as either of theirs, it would be great. But that's the haircut I pretty much always have, is long with long layers, and then I use hot rollers to get it smooth and remotely not hideous.

i have fine long hair.
I'm convinced that it is the layering at the ends that tangle the worst.
i usually keep it all one length. last Fall i decided to get the back layered.
i hate it.
my hair is also straight but it is healthy because i do not do anything at all other wash it and dry it in front of the woodburning stove [winter] or outdoors [summer].
also, getting it one length and then trimming ends is what works best for me.
admittedly, I'm not a fashion maven and walk to my own drummer but i do get compliments all the time that i have great hair.

and I've done the cut my hair thing a couple of times but probably won't ever do that again.
i always come back to having the ease and versatility of long hair.

if i had a nicely shaped head that might be different but my skull is flat at the back and with fine straight hair, well, short layered hair just makes me look weird..[or weirder depending upon one's point of view!].

I like this idea!

If you take 3-4 inches today, you can always go back for more to be taken off.

You might also chat with your stylist. Some will cut a length off and then let you adjust to have more taken before they do the final layering/shaping.

In my experience, it's better to make up your mind and go in for the cut with a clear idea of what you want. Last time I went in for a cut and I was unsure about what I wanted the end product to look like, it turned out pretty awful. I wanted bangs but I also wanted length... and my hair really wasn't quite long enough for bangs. But I had the itch for bangs so I got in the chair... The poor stylist tried to accommodate me but didn't speak up that it was a bad idea and just ended up giving me an awful cut.

Of course, if your stylist is really good and you guys have a good relationship, maybe he/she could help you to gradually figure out what you want.

Go for it! I think it's beautiful like it is but if you cut off a couple of inches it will feel so much healthier.

I just cut off like 10 inches last month and donated it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. My hair went from below boobs to just below collar bone length. I don't regret doing it, but purely from a looks perspective, I prefer my hair longer. It's really weird to run my fingers through my hair and have it end abruptly. My hair does feel healthier though! And it dries so much more quickly!

Both of the models in your inspiration photos appear to have thicker hair than you do so your hair may not end up looking like that unless you use a lot of product. However, shorter hair will have a little bit more volume at the top since there's not as much dragging it down.

I think if you are wavering on it, you shouldn't do it. Just cut off a couple inches and get additional layers to create more volume and movement.

You look gorgeous! I am painstakingly growing out my hair myself so I may be a bit biased, but I vote for just a trim. Every time I chop my hair off, I always end up regretting it. I think long hair really suits you!

Thanks! This girl "knows me", so I have a feeling even if I march in with resolve and ideas, she's gonna err on the side of length. I did trim it well last time, and I was a little panicked but it ended up not looking like I lost very much. DH couldn't even tell.

I have this "need" to have it longer than my boobs. It just never seems to get there before it's beyond unmanageable.

My hair is very fine too, though there's a ton of it. I had been avoiding a cut, because I get hair cut anxiety from a couple of bad cuts. I didn't even realize how unmanageable it was, until I took off a bunch of length. It's now where yours is, and hasn't been this healthy in years. I was thinking about going a bit shorter, too, to help add a little more volume. Not that I need more volume, but it just gets weighted down at the top because it's so heavy.

I think that your hair is lovely, and you should go for a trim, but maybe some more layers to spice it up.

How about going to a beauty supply store and "wigging out"? Take some pics in different lengths and mull it over some more. ;-)

Ame, you have beautiful hair.

If you chop it off, don't waver.
If you waver while you cut it, your hair will look uneven.

I wouldn't cut it, ame... the chicks in the photos (esp. the second one) have thick hair. I just don't think you'd be happy spending the amount of time it would take to make yours look similar. I'm with ya though... I have soft baby fine hair too. BOO! ;(

I'd give anything to have thick, coarse hair!!

I'm in the "trying to grow it long" camp as well. I can't stand it. I've been doing okay, and it's past my bra strap now, but... some days I just want to chop it all off, but then that kinda defeats the purpose of growing it long -- it's maddening! :errrr: :errrr:

It takes me only a year to go from two inches long all over to below my collarbone. Two total to get it from there to the longest it gets. I usually chop it all off every third or fourth year. It usually goes like short - med - long - med - long - CHOP! This time I had to wait five years because I wanted my hair long for the wedding, which is probably why I went overkill with a ridiculously short haircut, hah.

Honestly, I say just take the plunge. It's silly to be ruled by fear when it's just HAIR. But then, my favorite way to get a haircut is to give them a general length and then tell them to do whatever they want and not let me see it until it's done! So I may just be hair crazy or something.

one can have a lot of hair but if it is baby fine it will lay flat no matter if short or long.
that is my problem.
a "thick head of hair" really refers to how much hair one has, not the texture.
texture is fine, course, curly, straight, etc.
I have a thick head of hair but it is also fine and straight.......and hangs lots like yours, ame.

it is only hair, though, and you are young enough to grow it back out....however, that can be incredibly frustrating as well.

go short in stages if you're inclined to have shorter hair and in that way it will be easier to grow it back out.

I also take neem for both my hair and nails.........

I have an ENORMOUS amount of hair, it's just super fine and straggly.

Well, I sort of took a plunge. Let's say I was half-chickenshit. I decided it really NEEDED a good cut, healthwise because if I just trim it, it's going to just keep getting tangled and gross while I keep trying to grow it.

Ill post a pic in the morning when I get it styled. But I cut about 4" off, and had her make it SLIGHTLY more blunt. There's still layers, but it's less graduated than it was before. I haven't decided how I feel about it yet. I think it might need more layering in front or something but it feels MUCH healthier. Ironically it feels "heavier" than it did before, for being less hair, perhaps because of the bluntness of the ends. It's probably about 3ish inches beyond my collarbone now?

I have a shot of it blown straight that I'll post tomorrow also.

Can't wait to see your new do!

My hair is fine-not as cobwebby fine as it was before having kids, but still. I have more of it now than I did before the kids, but now it has some strange wave to it that looks utterly ridiculous when it's short or long, it's just easier to do something w/if it's short, not as tangly, and it doesn't look as stringy and isn't as flat. My hair separates and looks like it hasn't been combed w/in a couple hours of doing it.

Maybe once I have kids my hair will be thick and full of volume! ... Wishful thinking? LOL

Looking forward to pics! :appl:
