Hey all.. I have been perusing around in here for a lil bit.. and Im very green in the nomenclature or jargen of diamond talk so i have been trying to educate myself and i want to first thank you all on here who make it a bit easier for the laymen to research and get best price.. Well about that though, I think i just made a severe mistake. I put a offer in on a ring on ebay .. it looked to be a beutiful ring.. I have been to the stores ( in the mall, JBR, Jared etc.. ) and they just BEAT you up on the price. make a long story short the offer i submitted was accepted as i look more closely the ring has a cert from IGC.. the center stone is only .50 but has a TDW of 1.29.. I am to purchase this ring for 1,800.. Here is a link as to what i am to get.. Is this something you all would stay away from? I only ask cause again i am very green but dont want to spend the money on crap ..

Here is the link..
Link to bridal set i got for 1800.00

Thank you in advance and Best Regards!!

Hi soda

I would definitely cancel this transaction, the diamond is clarity enhanced. Also it is cut quality which is responsible for the beauty of a diamond, I would bet the diamonds on the above ring are not well cut also. Because cut makes all the difference to how a diamond looks you can lower colour and clarity considerably and still have a very white and clean diamond. As the diamond above is clarity enhanced and not graded by the above mentioned labs it won't be VVS clarity in truth anyway and possibly the colour grade might not be accurate. We can help you find something you can be proud of for your budget with a non treated diamond from one of the online vendors if you would like us to with a lab report from GIA or AGS, the two top tier labs.

Thank you so much.. Im going to write to them and with draw.. I dont have a huge budget but I wanted to get something that will be appealing to the eye.. perhaps .9 or 1ct.. i have been down the road with Leo''s and all that and this board has helped me with that.. I appreciate all the insight and direction you can give me .. ALOT.. =)

Cheers,

Jay..

Ps. shes here so i have to jump off ill be on later this evening.

If it looks too good to be true it probably is... 1.29 D VVS in 18K for 2800 IS too good to be true. Till you read the fine print! Any time you see clarity enhanced...RUN!

You are most welcome and we will do what we can to help you!

Just as an example you could get this setting,

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/ring/item_412-3711.asp

With a diamond like this,

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1262700.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131

You would need to check the diamond is eyeclean and that the cloud inclusion isn't affecting brilliance ( rare but best to check with one of James Allen's gemologists if interested). You would also need to ask for the hearts image for this diamond.

The above combo gives you around a carat total weight that you want and comes in just under budget.

Couldnt agree with the ladies more...you want your hard earned $1800 to go to a quality stone/setting that will make her eyes
sparkle when she sees it! Lorelei and swingril have pointed you in the right direction. These stones are certified and you know
from the numbers you are getting a well cut stone.

I might know the answer to this.. but can I somewhat haggle with J.A or W.F.. or even GOG?? And if i cant afford a 1ct stone will a .71 look respectable on a finger.. Ive been trying to find pics of .71 or so on a finger but coming up empty

Depends on the ring size for how the stone will look.

Also, under 1 carat, there is a thread, you can probably find an image of a 0.7c stone on a finger.
