I am back and please HELP. Not quite sure how to eveluate a diamond with ASET and IS images.

Only you can decide on the color. I prefer a well cut mid range color of G/H VS/SI1 eye clean stone. If you are OK with K color then go for it!
Hi DF, I will receive the K color stone on Friday, I will update you posted! Thank you!

Yes but you could order it from JA with free 30 day returns and ask them to take the IS once they get it from overseas....or just get it and compare both stones.
True. I am going to order it - it looks really nice. The arrows are not as fat though. Not sure if the diamond will as firey and crisp

uahh.... When I was going to purchase it 2 mins ago, it says unavailable....................

Keep an eye on it over the next few days, many of them are just on reserve and come back into the pool again.

Sucks....you should always put things on hold when interested. It's free and usually for at least 24 hours...but ditto what gm said...it could potentially come back.

Your budget is 7k all in?

Hi Niel,

Unfortunately, yes. I know it is a very embarrassing budget to ask for a 1.5 carat ring, but it is really all we can afford. I have 2 diamonds on my hands right now:

1. 1.4 K VS2 from IDJ - no fluor

2. 1.58 J SI 2 from JA - strong blue

I personally think K color is a bit too yellow in some lighting without even putting a J next to it. And a JA in house GIA certified Gemologist commented on my J color diamond from JA and said it is a true J and the strong blue makes the diamond looks a bit hazy just very sightly. "To the gemologist's trained eye they did detect a very slight haze under daylight, but they are confident this would not be detectable to the layman." The two diamonds is about $1,100 different. A 18K plain comfort fit setting with the 1.58J diamond will go over 7,000 for a little bit, maybe 30 bucks.

Here is the real life picture of these two diamonds:
1. the top one is 1.4K, the bottom one is 1.58 J.

2. The 1.58 J is on the top and the 1.4 K is at the bottom for the following pictures:

I can see the blue in the 1.58 J, very clearly.

Here is the video of the two diamonds next to each others.

Any thoughts? Thank you!

Interested to see which diamond speaks to you more in terms of sparkle. Size difference is notable. If color bothering you now it may only get worse. Can you detect haze compared to the K? Is the J eye clean? Do they both look as crisp to your eyes? Do you like the J blue?

hmmmm, I think it is very true to what ac177 mentioned before, 1.4 K creates chunkier flashes lights. In terms of fire, I think both of them are very fiery. And in direct sunlight, i can see the J color diamond is not as clear as the 1.4K... But I am not sure if it is really the haze... (sorry it is the first two diamonds I have ever purchased, i dont know if it is haziness...). But as long as there is no direct sunlight, even it is day time at outdoor, it looks completely fine. Not 100% sure what crisp means (i have heard about it so many times) but I think the 1.4K one looks more 3D if that makes sense. I am leaning toward to the 1.58 one just because of it is slightly whiter and it looks quite a lot bigger than the 1.4K one... From the pictures I posted.. Could you tell if the 1.58 one is hazy?

I think this picture is very true in terms of what they look like in real life under direct sunlight:

Does the top one look kinda hazy? I feel like the 1.4K one has the same problem but it doesnt have fluor...

I ask this on another thread but does it have to be round?

Hi Niel,

I do like RB a lot more than any other shape :(

Assessing the effect of BF can be tricky. I have not seen enough diamonds with BF under different lighting conditions to say for sure.
You need to make a good distinction between the stone being oily/hazy and the reflection being pastel-like; the latter can be desirable. Again, it is not easy.
Regardless, if you do not like or are not comfortable with the appearance, you should reject.

A good thread.

Some appearance I adore, some I am not a fan of. I won't tell which..

It's hard to say about the haziness bc diamonds get dirty so easily and they are both resting on your hand so they could have your oil/skin/lotion/fragrance on them. I definitely notice the size difference and *to me* the K just looks very warm in all of the photos. I know photos make the color seem worse, but I think I'd stick with the 1.58 J in this case if it's truly eye clean, if the blue fluorescence doesn't bother you and if you love it!

Thanks everyone for the input. Assuming 1.58 J is truly eye clean and the haziness caused by SB Fluor is unnoticeable with untrained eyes, is 6740 (after PS discount) a very nice price?

Also, how do I know if a GIA graded diamond will fall in AGS 000? Again, thank you everyone!
