Dear all,

This is my first post here. I just went to HW new york and almost decided to purchase a round micropave E-ring. I like the ring but the price is a little high for me. The Tag price is $34500, and I negotiated to $29000. They were NOT willing to sell for $28000. So two questions now:

1.Is the price reasonable considering the 4Cs and HW brand?
2.Why the cushion micropave seems to be more popular (at least by the posts on ps) ? Something wrong with the Round micropave?

Thank you very much!

PP

thats INSANE. please do not buy that ring. you can get a stone much larger and the same quality setting through Whiteflash, James Allen, GOG and many of the other fine affiliated vendors here. I should comment that the stone looks like a nice stone potentially-based on the specs but its grossly over priced

Are you looking at a Round Brilliant or Cushion? It is just a personal preference. They are both beautiful. You will find most people on PS prefer to spend the majority of the budget on the stone and not on a brand name. Many of the vendors can create settings as good or superior to the high-end name brands.

Hi pillow

You will have to pay a huge sum for the HW name....If that is important to you then thats fine and you don't mind paying a lot extra, but just to show you what you could buy online.....

In fact the diamond above has preferable proportions to the HW diamond and one of the online vendors could probably provide a similar setting to the one you like.

I do want to get a HW or Tiffany ring for my gf, and was looking for rings between 20-25K. I also looked at a Tiffany solitaire round cut today and it''s also pricy.

1.41ct

for $19900. But it''s a solitaire without the pave setting.

Well, it *is* HW. Can you get something as nice for less money? Yes. Is the HW name worth something. Yes. It just depends on what''s most important to you.

I am looking for Round Brilliant, but I want to understand why Cushion is so popular?

I thought round cut will have more sparkle?

RBs do have more sparkle but cushions have an antique look to them. Larger chunky facets which some (like me) just love.

The brand does play an important role in my decision. Let me rephrase my question:

Is the price reasonable for a HW ring? And do you think I have more room to negotiate with them? Thanks!

I see. Do you know whether the cushion cut will be more expensive than the round cut? I didn''t look at the cushion rings today and will probably go again tomorrow. but won''t do it if the price is out of range. thank you!

If you''re buying from HW, the price is what they set and what they''re willing to negotiate. There''s nothing reasonable about a place like HW; OTOH you''ll have a HW on your hand which has a wow factor many other brands do not have.

As to whether or not a cushion will be more expensive? It shouldn''t, but who knows with HW? They may charge more for less common cuts just because they can.

WOW! If I had $29,000 I wouldn''t settle for 1.3 ct no matter whose name was on it!

I was gong to say the same thing. I wonder what the recipient would prefer...a 1.3 from HW, or a firecracking 1.5+ and a rocking Leon pave band.

Sorry to offend PillowPillow but I 100% agree with Aprilbaby and the PPs. I would MUCH prefer a larger "generic" top of the line performer than a designer stone and setting. IMO, brand names are over-rated and WAY over-priced.

You will most definitely get more "bang for your buck" (save thousands) if you purchase elsewhere. I would research and purchase the stone from one of the reputable online vendors and contact Mark at Engagement Rings Direct or Leon Mege at Art of Platinum to inquire about a custom HW replica setting.

Here is Winnie's HW's replica that was made by Mark at ERD.

Honestly, if it NEEDS to be HW, you have to understand that you''re paying a huge mark up for the name (just as lots of couples are willing to pay for the Tiffany name).

If it''s a priority that''s one thing, but understand for that kind of money you can still get a knockout ring at a MUCH better price.

Out of curiosity, why do you feel that you must purchase a ring from HW or Tiffany''s? Bragging rights I presume (btwn you and FF of course). Not sure if the reasons extend past you and FF but be advised that NO ONE will ever know by mere observing where the ring was purchased. Of course many compliments will be received but the designer name and high price tag will never be known (unless of course you or your FF choose to disclose to others, which IMO is totally tacky).

Anyway, I wish you the best in your quest and hope that you are least open to listening to all the great advice that has been and will continue to be offered.

Hi P.,

It sounds like you may have your mind made up about the HW issue. And I have zero to offer in terms of negotiating with HW stores, and if you go that route, I wish you luck. I did, however, want to suggest that you (and your gf?) at least peruse Leon Mege''s website. He has hundreds of photos, so you can get a good idea of what to expect. AND there are hundreds of posts on PS about his jewelry and business.

I am no expert, but I think that many would agree that LM''s quality is on par with HW, and the cost is astronomically less. Just please take a look before you decide :)

Good luck and congrats!

That is an insane price to pay for a ring of that carat weight IMHO, I don''t care whose name is on it. For me value cannot be determined by the name, but that price is beyond ridiculous.

No kidding. Almost $30,000 for a diamond that''s only 7mm

You could have a lovely 2 ct. diamond for the same money.
