Friends! Waaaay back in Feb/March I was gearing up for some serious three-stone planning for my 1.23 E SI2 CBI. That was put on hold for a bit, and now I’m at it, full-force, in anticipation of our 20th anniversary in October.

I’m working with Layla on the design, but there is one issue I can’t put to rest in my brain: All platinum, or platinum head with rose gold shank? I’m leaning toward all platinum, but in my mind I’ve kind of been imagining the rose gold shank as something fun and beautiful. I haven’t been able to let it go, so I need a little help from PS! This will be a RHR. I’ll wear it on its own, or I may stack with my Cartier trinity (which is my mother’s ring with the kids’ names engraved).

I’d love your input. My wedding set is platinum, and I’m including my wedding set for you to see. Back when I met Layla as “Gypsy,” she gave me an idea for a diamond/sapphire anniversary band that helped to repurpose five diamonds from our first anniversary. I had a diamond band that I rarely wore, and I had an idea, but no real direction. I had this band made locally with her idea on a PS thread!

So, that was a little fun backstory! Now, what I would love to see are real-life hand pics of mixed metal diamond rings. My ring will have substantial side stones (just under a half carat each). Here’s a pic of my 1.23 CBI with my .50 studs on each side (1.01 ctw).

Any mixed metal rings that people want to share? Would this be a mistake with E colored diamonds? I don’t think this will be my last upgrade, if that makes a difference in your opinions!

I have nothing to add...but I’d love to see some pics!! Your ring sounds like it will be beautiful!!

Loving those three gorgeous CBIs! (And your wedding set is lovely too!)

Do what makes your heart sing.

I wish I already had three CBIs in my possession. :) The sides are my daily studs... "just" triple-x G colored diamonds. I plopped my ring in salt and tried to prop up the studs nearby to create a three-stone look for just checking out the proportions. Thank you for your post... my heart tells me so many different things with regard to diamonds.

Trying to find a picture that shows my 18 kt gold shank. You can’t see much of the shank but you can see the wedding band set in 18 kt gold. The prongs are all platinum so it is definitely a mixed metal set. If you go with an all platinum three stone, you can always add in rose gold bands. I love mixed metals as it adds visual contrast but all platinum is beautiful too. Go with what your heart wants!

Well, I'm obviously going to vote for mixed metals! To come at it from a different direction - there's a lovely, petite, all-rose-gold 3 stone on the 3 stone thread. I love that ring, but every time I see it, I wish it was done with a white metal head!

I think a yellow shank / white metal head with such white diamonds would look fabulous! The whiter the diamonds, the more lush the gold looks, so I think yellow gold with your diamonds would be a-maaaaz-ing!

And I love your proportions! I've always thought .4/1/.4 (which is what yours is) was the ideal ratio for a three stone. So, in my book, all things considered, you're *really* onto something here!

Looking forward to seeing it completed!

Beautiful stones! I love mixed metals, but I wonder how much the mixed metal would be visible, given that you plan to stack with another ring and it’s a 3 stone with substantial finger coverage? If you can’t see the shank at all or barely see it only from the side, I’d get it in the metal color that matches your other jewelry or skin tone best, whether that’s platinum/WG or RG or YG! Otherwise, mixed with RG would look lovely. If you’re stacking with the trinity then the good thing is that no matter what shank color you pick it’s going to match!

I'm so excited for you! We have similar taste! The rose gold shank is very fun and romantic. but do you like things matching? Meaning does your heart sing with your platinum on left hand and platinum on right? Or does it make you excited to have variety on the right hand? Those would be some considerations. It's going to be a stunner! I love your wedding set btw! My vote is all platinum. It's your ring and whatever you choose will be beautiful!

I'm voting rose gold with plat head. I think such white stones will really pop against the rose gold and I think mixed metals show a little more
interest. Probably not much of the shank will be seen so I dont think you can go wrong. Since its going to be a RHR I think you should play
with it and go with the mixed metal!

I love your ering and stack! Do you have a thread on your ering? Its an oval right?

BTW, my ering and wedding band are white gold and I wear a mixed metal (white and yellow gold) on my right hand.

I vote mixed metals! I was going back and forth between white gold and yellow for my upgrade and went with white. I couldn’t get the yellow out of my head so I ended up switching it out for yellow with white prongs and I love it 100% more. If the RG is in your head, go for it!

Here are a ton of pics in different lighting, just to show how different metals look on me in different environments...

These first pics are in order from palm toward fingertip:
1. Rose gold band from Cartier trinity
2. 1800s rosy yellow gold from the oldest piece of jewelry I own (rose cut diamonds!)
3. Stuller 14K yellow gold

All of the last ones were the Cartier rose gold with the HPD NY Classic in platinum. :)

I have nothing to add...but I’d love to see some pics!! Your ring sounds like it will be beautiful!!

Oh, you know I will have a major photo shoot (or 10!) on the day it arrives!

@MissGotRocks —I would love to see a pic of you holding something, or another way to catch a glimpse of what the shank/shoulder looks like when it comes up near the head!

:kiss2: these are beautiful perspective shots!! Thank you!

I am still in love with rose gold shanks and platinum heads (and someday it will come in the form of an antique ruby with diamond halo...), but I decided to go with all platinum for this ring. It will arrive next week and I’m so excited! I will start a SMTB thread when I have it, but for now here is a sneak peek! .44/1.23/.45 E CBIs
