How would you set a square cushion Mahenge Spinel?

Just asking for inspirations as I have never had a square cushion.

Hypothetically, I could be getting a Mahenge Spinel in 1 to 2ct range, either in a square cushion or a trillion. I anticipate the size to be about 7mm. I have seen a pic of the roughs, and it is the kind of raspberry red that I love. Can't share the pic, sorry.

I already have a setting in mind for a trillion, however I am kind of stuck with a square cushion as I have not had one before.

I quite like a 3-stone paired with round or chubby pears in diamonds or another white stones such as Sapphire or Spinel, or pale pink stones in the same hue.

I could halo it with a simple air gap halo, or a more fancy one like Victor C's with traps as part of the halo.

Or just a simple halo with no gap.

The main stone must be bezel-set.

Don't fancy pairing it with another colour like green or aqua except for paler pink in the same hue.

Please help with sharing your inspirations for a 7mm square cushion CS, TIA.

How exciting! Do you like thin or chunky bezel? I love Art Deco design with delicate bezel.

It depends on the setting, and I do like a metal bezel halo with no stones.

What if you did a VC style halo with airline and used pale pink stones for the traps and diamonds for the rest?
You can see from my avatar, I’m a bit of a VC fan :)

Ooo, I like that idea.

Or something similar like my green Tourmaline on the right from Gene with the bigger stones in pink.

Here is a pic of one of the 6mm white Spinel pair from JD that I already have in hand against my diamond stud for a 3-stond setting. Instead of East-West, I may set them N-S instead.

Soooo many possibilities...I can’t wait to see what you do!! :kiss2:

I need the stone to be cut first, and I shan't have it in hand for setting for a while, so please don't hold your breath!

I have so many setting projects with stones I already have in hand, this one will be way down the list!

Another idea with the white Spinels, something simple that I could wear casually.

Or similar to my RH Amethyst replacing the diamond bands with plain metal. The centre stone is 9mm, however the Mahenge Spinel should be smaller.

This is the all metal Bombé ring I have in mind in White Gold:

First of all....how exciting!!! Where are you getting it from?

And here are a few ideas. :D I think a few would look great bezel set (but I was too lazy to do it).

@elle_71125 I had not thought about setting it at 45 deg angle, thank you for your suggestions! :kiss2:

Jeff W managed to bag a few Mahenge Spinel roughs at Tucson this year. :Up_to_something:

I was asking what else he managed to pick up after he had sourced a neon deep pink Sapphire for me, enquiring for a friend you know what I mean :Up_to_something:, and he showed me a pic that is intended to go on his FB page soon, and there is a group of 4 Mahenge roughs that caught my eyes. :kiss2:

Hopefully, he will post pics of his haul this year on his FB page soon.

BTW, Gary had a gorgeous square cushion 2+ ct Rhodolite listed in his website, very affordable under 200 USD! I thought it was priced incorrectly so I emailed him, and he responded the price is correct!

Very tempted, however I have not had a lot of luck with red Garnets as the ones I have purchased from JD are a tad too brown for my liking even though they looked lovely in photos. :((

This is an inexpensive Amethyst from JD that I have, which I believe it could be classified as a square cushion.

Set in a diamond halo, and the bezel followed the lines of the stone which I thought is really pretty.

I'd like something different than a normal diamond halo.

The 45 degree angle is one of my favorites for a square cushion.

Jeff always picks out the best rough. I can’t wait to see that picture.

Can't wait to see what he has.

A raspberry colored Mahenge Spinel sounds beautiful! It would look great with chubby pear side stones, or even trillion side stones! Would look great in a halo as well. So many fun options!

It won't be a square cushion as it will be an EC, and I shall set it in a 3-stone with White Sapphire step cut traps.

DK

Can't wait to see it! You must tag me when you post that gemstone or ring!

Jeff W has posted the pic of some of his Tucson haul he shared with me on his FB page, showing a group of Mahenge Spinels that caught my eyes, and one of them is now mine.

This is my Mahenge Spinel rough, I believe it is the one in the front on the left of that group of roughs:

I have not posted a pic of a small Baringo Ruby that may end up being a cushion, also from Jeff, my rough is on the left next to a pink EC Sapphire (not mine and is available):

He is about to start cutting the Ruby, woo hoo!

Gorgeous rough! What size is he expecting to get out of it?
