How would you incorporate french cuts in this setting?

Hello,
I am currently in the process of buying a gorgeous tranny from erica at LAD. It is GIA L, 2.33 carats, approx 8.5mm. I am working on the setting in my head, but it will be a few months before I actually have the stone in hand. I really love nicole richie's ering, but would like to incorporate french cut diamonds in the design somehow. Obviously I have seen the gorgeous single stone setting below, and it looks wonderful. I am trying to figure out a different and somewhat original way to incorporate them. Anyone have any ideas? Or any other ideas for the setting? I know I want it to be low profile, and I like the relatively thin shank. I want it to be bezel set with an airline. Those are the most important things for me. Thanks!

I'd recommend talking to ring designer Caysie van Bebber of CvB Inspired Design. She designs gorgeous antique style rings (and has a great bench who makes them) and you can see many on her facebook page:

I very much like that SS ring, but I would have Caysie make it. She has a beautiful halo design (Casablanca) that does not have french cuts, too.

Thanks diamond seeker! I have actually been talking a lot to Caysie but have not started discussing the design yet, as I am waiting until I am closer to having my diamond. Just thought it would be fun to ask, I know there are many creative people here and of course jewelry aficionados!

oh this one is cool! I love the first emerald one, and I know that that was the inspiration for the SS setting. I wonder if you could place the french cuts on the corners instead? I even thought about a halo completely of french cuts. I can't decide if that would be amazing, or if it would be too much and overshadow my center stone?

You know, I have wondered about that. It might be the cost that keeps people from doing it because it would be a lot of stones to have custom cut. Of course, we see lots of deco rings with colored stone fc halos, so I just don't know. I tend to think I'd rather have the fc accents and then a french cut wedding band. I am not sure that having them surround an OEC would be the most flattering thing for the center stone. I did not know that emerald ring was the inspiration for ROL's SS ring! I love them both, though! I actually would love to just replicate the emerald ring totally, except I probably could afford a center diamond more than a fine emerald!

Yes I agree, it would likely be quite expensive for the halo to be completely French cuts. It's still a surprise we haven't seen it done. I agree with you, I would love to have a thin French cut eternity band to go with it. Which would be too much with a complete French cut halo. I do absolutely love the rings with the French cut ruby or sapphire halos! Probably because it's more like a frame for the center stone, but of course with diamonds it wouldn't quite have the same effect, even with an airline.

I had that gorgeous Single Stone halo, and I still dearly love it-- it just wasn't "work friendly" as I am an RN. I wish I had taken that into consideration prior to making that ring. If you aren't held to the same constraints, I am all for a gorgeous halo like that ! What is your budget?

Brilliantly Engaged seems to have some vintage styled halos and are reasonably priced as well. David Klass or DK would also be another recommendation for a budget friendly piece there have been many pieces recently added to the "Show Me the Bling" part of the forum including a gorgeous double halo!

The inspiration piece for my ring was from SN Queens, but due to some issues a close friend of mine had with her ring from that vendor, I decided to move forward with Single Stone instead. Ari created an AMAZING floral gallery for me in that ring.

Hi ROL! Funny you say that, because I'm an RN as well! I just like to wear a plain band to work so I don't really figure that into my decision at all. I really like that setting from BE you posted, thanks! I however do really want an airline. I would really like to stick with working with Erica and Caysie because they have been so great to me, and I really love Caysie's work. I am flexible on budget because this is going to be it for me for a while, but I really want to stay under 5,000. (I know that would eliminate an all french cut halo but I wasn't really going in that direction anyway). I guess I am trying to find a way to make a ring that is similar to yours, without ripping off your design

Ah, wearing a plain band to work makes sense then What unit do you work in?

The emerald ring with the yg bezel is from SN Queens

I'm sure CVB and Erica and come up with a design for you, you can always add an airline to a halo! It's just french cuts get pricey if you were to do an all french cut halo, I think Ari mentioned that his are recut from baguettes.

How exciting! You could also do a halo with round melee but then put the French cuts just on the corners, I had a halo like that I used straight baguettes in the corners. Caysie is a dream to work with and she will sketch out each stage for you!

I considered doing a french cut halo with my ring but decided to just go with the calibrated french cut sides as that was more practical for my everyday life. I'd love to see someone on PS do it, though. I can't wait to see what you decide!

ROL: Right now my unit is kind of a hodge lodge mix of medical, oncology, and surgical patients, including bariatric surgery. We are merging soon with another downtown hospital and then it will just be a surgical unit, which I am very excited about. My hospital is located in a pretty urban area, so it's not very bling appropriate. Not to mention all the nasty bacteria that I envision getting all over my ring! Where do you work? I saw your new diamond on Instagram, may I ask if you know what you're going to do with it? I will be excited to see

EC4ME: I will likely not do a whole fc halo, but I would like to see more pic of other rings with them if they exist! Your ring is perfection, you made the right call with your design for sure!

I love your OEC with the french cuts too, I have been wondering what direction I should go as far as my future fc band. Victor canera, CVB, I have even seen some pretty david klass fc bands. hmmmmm. I have lots of time to figure it out ( unless I magically win some kind of cash prize in the near future )

Beautiful ring designs. I like DS suggestion of accent FC & a band of FC. Perhaps FC on the shoulders & shank? I have not had anything made by Caysie but her designs ( & execution) are gorgeous.

Funny..so many nurses. LOL I work cardiology & I used to never wear my set with my pave to work. I bought a simple white gold band to wear. With the crackdown on hand washing & infection control as a whole, a lot of my co-workers just dont wear any rings anymore.

Like you, I've been obsessed with Nicole Richie's ring for years!! I love the round with octagonal halo, and the airline is TDF! (plus it adds substantial finger coverage!) If it were me, I'd just have Caysie make one very similar to ROL's ring (my other obsession), placing four FC's in the same places as hers. This would be AMAZEBALLS. That style makes me want to go through with changing settings... really bad.

The shoulders and shank is a good idea as well! Maybe 4 square fc on the halo and fc baguettes on the shoulders?

It is really scary how there are so many antibiotic resistant superbugs these days and I have a 2 year old and now a 2 month old, the last thing I want to do when I go back to work is to risk exposing my infant to anything. I see a lot of it at work too because I care for many iv drug abuses who have cellulitis and open sores everywhere... ugh. I think I will be taking scalding hot decontamination showers when I get home before I get near my kids!

Thanks! I love it so much too! I swear once I chose the stone I changed my mind every single day of what I wanted! Julia solitaire, gabbie halo, emilya halo with a plain shank, rose gold pave solitaire, stephanie halo... haha. I think this is going to be the one though. I haven't strayed since I decided on it

I worked as a Unit Supervisor at a trauma 1 teaching hospital (thus I could wear bling, but when I stepped in to help my staff, it grossed me out to have my ring with me). I quit last year to go pursue my MSN FNP. When I worked with oncology patients, I wore nothing to work.

Oh, I didn't know you owned that setting now arkieb! I'm surprised to hear that you think my stone would fit in it? What were the measurements of the original diamond? I know that cushions face up slightly smaller than OECs but 2.33 carat vs. 4+ is a pretty big difference! I really appreciate the offer but I really can't get the setting until I have the diamond, so it would be some time before I could buy it, if I decided to go that route. Thank you so much again for the offer!
