How to set a POH in a halo & opinions

I think I saw that Bev K in person when I was there and I wasn't crazy about it. It looked better to my in photos than real life. The "Perfect Halo" was awesome, but really expensive (3x more than other designers). The Gabriel came closest in terms of quality I thought.

I'm happy to go to about a j in color and si1 in clarity around 10 grand or so. But I want larger I think than both of these. That's the single thing holding me back... Size. The avc is great but their stock is limited in my parameters

Hmm. I might be changing my mind again. Your gut is to go for the modern cushion. So go with the modern cushion. It is what she asked for. It is the size you want. It is within your budget. It is very beautiful. Again, she asked for a cushion and you found a very well performing cushion. I think she would be very happy with this choice.

I keep changing my mind too ;)

All good points. My goal going into this was "Unqiue", which a modern cushion is not, but I think a rose gold setting is certainly unique in and of itself. The AVC is spready for the carat weight, but when I look at non-AVC's with the same parameters, the AVC carries a pretty substantial premium. That doesn't mean I'm not going to get it though. Tough choice.

My thoughts from GOG-

AVC: Looks tiny stand alone in the tray next to the other diamonds BUT looks good in the halo. Felt pretty comfortable with how it looked in the "Perfect Halo" - but I'm afraid it may get lost in the less dainty non-designer halos which tend to be more metal-y / thicker. Not AGS 000 - it did not get a 0 in one category. Although smaller than the Modern, it's only a tad smaller than the POH which I was originally going for 6.65x6.65 vs 6.13x6.33 - so it seeming "small" may just be due to the fact that I saw it next to this modern cushion.

Mod: Better value; noticeable advantage in size. GIA VG/EX. Costs a little more, but still within budget. Her original inspiration showed a stone that looked like a Modern cushion. J in color was a concern but it's not really noticeable. J/VS2 represents a great value for the size. Faceting kind of looked kind of like the POH in person which is what I was drawn to initially. Jon @ GOG gave me confort that it was a good cut. Too large for a size 4.5 finger?

Post GOG thoughts-

Leaving there, I had a slight inclination towards the Modern.
Since then, people I am asking in person are telling me to go for the AVC so far. The AVC is the clear winner in the video compare, but the Mod does hold its own in real life.

Given your inspiration, I vote modern cushion too.

Ask which Bev K you saw, because they have dozens of variations on each ring and it may not be that one. I can understand why the perfect circle is more because it's custom made by GOG so it's up to if it's worth more to you. Is there any chance your fiance will want to reset it?

No, she wouldn't want to reset. I'm the one that gets obsessive over stuff ;)

NO!! I am having my 1.87ct AVC set in a 1mm halo and my ring size is 4.25. It definitely looks substantial, but not too big!
My diamond is 7.11 x 7.57 mm.

I think yours will be a great size.

Yours is really nice, but the AVC I am looking at is only 6.14 x 6.33, so about 1mm less. My concern is the Gabriel setting may be too chunky for it.

You said your setting is a 1mm halo - not sure what the Gabriel setting is. Maybe I need to find that out before deciding.

It's a close call between each. My "Source" here is telling me to go AVC even though it's smaller.

Dougsgirl, your ring is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What ct size e-rings do her friends have? What size are your peers giving to their fiancées? This matters. If everyone else has 1.5-2 cts each and your GF has a 1.13 ct, she may feel defensive or insecure.

Although I chose the size of my engagement AVC for a specific reason with no regrets, I have the smallest diamond out of all my friends. Sometimes, I feel like an outlier. The norm in my parts is about 1.5 cts. I have .77 cts.

If the norm in your social circle is 1.5-2 cts, get the modern cushion.

As Webdiva said, make sure the Beverly K you looked at was the one suggested by Gypsy. Gypsy is the best personal shopper on this board.

I don't think the setting will be too chunky for the stone. It will likely be a different stone:halo ratio than mine, with a slightly thicker halo, but it is still a beautiful look.

One thing to consider if you go with the AVC... Those diamonds have VERY tall (beautiful) crowns, and it WILL stick up taller than the halo. Mine could have been set slightly lower, and my halo is not flat (it's tilted slightly downward) but look at how tall the crown of the diamond is... Would you (and she) be OK with that?? It is a beautiful look, and it really shows off the cut of the stone, but if you want "flush" it very likely will not be.

And Spesh... Thank you!! I am still waiting for the finished product... I will hopefully get it back around Oct. 6th. The wait is killing me!!

Social circle is generally on the higher side 1.5 - 2 cts at least, but she calls them "boulders" and "busy". Given, that's also a nature of the settings. The 1.79 will still be on the lower end I think to be honest, especially as a solitaire.

And I will definitely look at the Bev K Gypsy recommended. I definitely appreciate all of the (Brutally honest) advice and help Gypsy has given me. ;)

Have the vets on this board ever considered doing this full time? Meaning, being a personal shopper for diamonds / e-rings online?
