Okay this has got to be for the diamond techies out there. What is the best way to see the laser inscription for Isee2 HA diamonds?

I was having my stone set at the jewelers and we spent ~20 minutes under high magnification to try and locate this little fellow. In the end, we could only catch the first 3 digits and a ghost of the Isee2 logo. Even then it was only for a fleeting moment as the image de-materialized again. It''s nice for safety but a double edged sword because I can''t easily identify it''s my stone when I send it out for service/cleaning. In the future, I would ask for an additional laser inscribe on the girdle.

As a background, Isee2 puts their marking on the table facet, beneath the surface.

Seems to me an interesting dilemma. If it was any more than what you mention, it would potentially affect the clarity grade. Great. So if a standard 10-20x loupe won't do the trick, maybe they should give you something. Heck, why not...with other brands we have little walnut boxes, certificates of authenticity and origin, pattern viewers...let's make it something useful instead!

The Isee2 inscription process is not done by laser, but by an ionization process. It is extremely small (so it doesn't affect clarity grading at 10x) and, I think, low contrast, so it requires high mag. AND a good eye.

It is definetely a challenge to find under a microscope. Retail jewelers who participate under the Isee2 project get a machine that more easily identifies the ionized registry # and logo on the table of the diamond (as opposed to a laser inscription on the girdle). This is one of the graphics in our upcoming tutorial covering the whole Isee2 project (which involves their diamonds and their technology). We can do a screen capture which shows the ionized registry # of that particular stone. When an Isee2 client goes to their website (www.isee2.com) they can enter that number and pull up a provenance report showing the origin and history of that particular diamond. A definite *neato* feature.
