I was in KC a very short time and I made reference to my boyfriend in a thread. Someone (and I honestly don't remember who) got all up in arms because I had JUST gotten there and ALREADY I had a boyfriend?!? Ergo the clarification (left over from) Chicago Boyfriend.

Ruby, for 8 years I - as a liberal(ishy) - I have seen pictures of target practice on Obama, hanging pictures of Obama. Where you so up in arms at that? it's tit for tat. A teacher should not have done that in her classroom, it's not known who was in there with her. She is gonna get he can man as we used to say at IBM.

Just to say also, I get ignored too, sometimes not.. it's part of life. I think some posters just go on the 'funny' rather than want to continue talking past you. WHY? well because they are conservatives and none of what Obama wanted for America is what they wanted. So now we have a minority of Americans telling people what to do.. We have a president who lies. seriously, even Fox said it... these are strange times indeed. Because Trump won, you want the other side to get along with conservatives.. like I said I understand that, I just don't think it can happen.. I'm sorry to say that to you, because I used to think if republicans would just meet in the middle, things would improve, but they never would.. So there is frustration on a technical win by Trump, by the gerrymandering of red states by republicans to win indefinitely.

DancingFire always makes a good case that democrats not only lost the national election they own the states. As long as we had Obama, we felt safe. Don't feel safe anymore.. I feel like I should buy a gun (almost) because I now have a president who is trying to de-legitimize the mainstream press, deny help to poor women (the old planned parenthood problem).. Democratic liberals etc feel THEIR rights are being trampled on and eroded..

I will say this and then shut up: when NAFTA took effect, I didn't like it, nope, and it did what I thought it would do.. take jobs, but it also allowed people to have cheaper goods.. tariffs are bad.. but that is life. While NAFTA is good for Americans, what American democrats/republicans didn't do was assist those who lost their jobs, republicans whined about welfare, well those who lost their jobs are some of those on welfare. They aren't coal miners, they are people in cities/towns who lost their jobs and nothing new came to town..

You can put them on ignore as well. IMO, it makes my PS experience much more pleasurable when I don't have to see certain posts. I can concentrate on the things I like to read about. I'm sad that Hangout has become "Trump Haters Unite" central. I really do miss the way it used to be. I suspect you are being ignored because you appear to be failing to follow your own guidelines, especially on these following two points.

From the other side it would read "stop trying to flame the other side with phrases like "snowflake". It is rude. And the try not to belittle other posters is a little loaded, unfortunately, as often dis-agreeing with people these days seems to be viewed as belittling.

You can't help what someone calls another person, you can only take responsibility for yourself and how you refer to people, and how people refer to you. When you begin to reference people you are speaking with as something, ie, "snowflake", or "brain dead", then there is surely cause for personal offense on either side.

I don't like Trump. That is a given. I have also not referred to him in any manner you listed above. I choose not to. I hope you would grant the same respect when referring to those who aren't part of your political viewpoint and hopefully will stop making gross generalizations to snowflakes. Honestly, it's something you have to choose to do for yourself, and not something you can require of others, because you can only be responsible for yourself.

Yup. I am entirely unsurprised that posts are ignored when people know how they will be responded to. You were reasonable, and the response was not. Good on you for trying.

I do happen to agree that if you choose to enter in to a political discussion (I'm answering the topic line here), it's better to table the trigger words and emotional talk (and be heavily prepared to back yourself with facts*) to have a meaningful one. But I also understand I can't make people do that by force or ultimatum, and as in your response to me, I often find (not always) that if I try to stay logical, someone's response to me (can't say to everyone else) may stay logical. So, having found myself in the middle of "mixed company" discussions many times in the last year, here's my own view of the choices of a discussion:

1- Enter in to the fray in full battle gear and come out swinging (common choice).
2- Ignore and say nothing (also pretty common)
3- make a response, even to someone who uses trigger words, but ignore use of trigger words or emotional rhetoric in response (not common)
4- make a response, but ignore any posts which you dislike....

*What do I consider facts? Things that are verifiable. Articles that I can't verify through multiple well known sources, or that use emotional rhetoric to make their point either direction, or use only hearsay with no factual backup, are automatically suspect to me. For example, I was reading an article on the recent gag orders of the new administration, and the article stated that to be fair, it has been present in other administrations as well, though not in regards to gagging data, only policy. That's when I tend to give a piece of information some credence.
