How to choose a wedding band to go with an antique e-ring if you don''t want engraving or milgrain?

Hello, everyone. I have been trying to think of an appropriate wedding band to go with my engagement ring, but have had limited luck so far because the engagement ring I currently have is an heirloom. It''s nice, but not my style--the sort of wedding band I would like is just plain, smooth metal (platinum, eventually, but now we can''t afford that). I don''t think a plain band would look right with my engagement ring, though, but what I know of ''antique'' style ring is that they seem to usually have either engraving or milgrain on them, and I don''t want either.

This wedding band will probably only be worn by me for a couple of years, since we will save up money to get my set later on when we have the money. If there''s no wedding band that appeals that matches this e-ring, then I will probably just wear the wedding band alone.

Budget is not definite, but since it''s not a forever ring, it probably isn''t going to be very much, so let''s say US$300 or under (although it''s flexible if you see something great).

Here''s the engagement ring.

Also, it''s got a weird raised shoulder sort of thing...don''t have any pics of it now (thought I did) so will take some so you can see.

Profile shot. Should mention that the ring is white gold, so the band should probably be white gold as well (although, for the sake of saving money and because I feel very 'meh' about all my band choices, I was considering a sterling silver wedding band).

Here you have a really clear shot of how much the shank tapers down on the sides, too.

And a hand shot, so you can see how the ring has raised shoulders (not sure what that''s really called?) and that the rest of the band lays low and hugs the finger.

It also has a sort of softened knife edge along the sides of the shank (between the side stones and the back of the ring). I am not a fan of knife edge rings either. And I could be ok with a little engraving maybe or a little milgrain, but generally it''s just not my thing. I like plain, and plain looks weird with this ring.

Really, I have no idea how to match this ring to anything I like because there isn''t much about it that''s my style.

However, when I told J that I might just get a plain band to wear by itself until we can get my forever set, he didn''t like that idea and said he didn''t want me to do that because he knows how much I love diamonds and would not want me to do without bling on my finger, even if only temporarily.

So, I thought I''d ask PS if you had any ideas on something that could match...and be in budget...and maybe even be my style. Yeah, not asking too much, is it?

Hmmm, I''ll poke around and see what I can come up with.

Since you''re feeling meh about your options, why not go for a wedding band that you love, that you can wear alone, and then convert to a RHR down the line when you upgrade your set? Something like a scattered diamond band comes to mind, but that''s a personal preference on my part.

My original plan (when I thought we'd be able to save more money, haha) was to get a semi-eternity with a bit of milgrain (to try to make it look antique-y like the engagement ring, but if not, would work alone). Here, this is the one. But, it's close to £800, so it's out of budget, by a lot. Plus the width of the shank would probably not work at all with the e-ring anyway.

D''oh, just saw it''s platinum though.

ETA: Sameish ring, in WG:$395 http://www.sylviasantiques.com/vintage-white-gold-diamond-wedding-band-1.html
Hey, not bad! Those two rings are a pretty good start--thanks, g!

I should probably also mention that my ring size is a 9, so finding the right size (or a ring that can be sized to my size) might be difficult...

Eh, where there's a will there's a way.

ETA: What about flanking your ring on either side with 2 thin pave bands?

Meaning finger lipo?

That would be gorgeous!

I really love the look, and adore the assortment of options that come with them...and had thought of maybe getting some down the road to go with my forever set (which will probably be Mark Morrell, like JadeLeaves'' set without the side stones, and with a plain plat band).

And that way, you''re not getting something just for the heck of it - you''d be getting something that you''ll actually use down the road.

Gekodani ---- what you posted it my Wedding band to go with my antique engagement ring. The sides are a bit different but it is the same make up... I WISH is cost only $350 though

Gwendolyn - this ring would go GREAT with your E Ring! The one you posted will not - it will be to "chunky" and not sit right (I tried on like that). I looked for 6 months for something that would go with my E ring and what Geko posted seemed to be the ONLY one that went with it. My E ring is a lot like yours!

Good Luck .. it''s a B*t*h finding the right one!

Gwen, I''m a believer that a teensy band works with anything. My wband is really similar in size to the Tiffany metro (it''s not a full eternity) and I pair it with my antique ring all the time. It''s definitely worth a try and a visit to a jeweler to see if a small, <2mm band might do the trick.

Gwen, have you looked at LOGR? He has a ton of beautiful bands in your price range that I think would work well for your ering. I agree with your fiance that you should find something you can wear with your ering and that way you have an option of wearing it or not. You could get one LOGR pave band now (for $200) and maybe another for your first anniversary? That way you''d have rings that would work as your forever rings. His sizes go up to 8, but I''m sure if you contacted him he could make something in your size.

I think the one that gemgirl posted would be lovely. My thoughts would be to go with an engraved band for the antique touch, plus it would be in budget.

Gwen, what about something like this? At 7 1/4, it could be sized pretty easily, and I think the style would both match your current e-ring and complement the one you''d upgrade to in the future ....

Call me crazy, but I think a plain band could look GREAT with your engagement ring. Have you tried the combo together?

I thought it might originally too, so I won't call you crazy.

I have sort of tried it with plain bands--not actual wedding bands, but I just turned some of my other rings around so that only the back faced up, to give me an idea, and it looked weird, like it was too smooth to go with all the stuff going on with the engagement ring, if that makes sense? But I didn't go out and try it with actual wedding bands, so who knows, maybe that would be different?

Ladies, thank you ALL for taking the time to show me some options. I am contemplating all your ideas and trying to visualize them on my hand. They are really helping to show me the possibilities, so thanks!

I have to say that I'm liking some of the stuff from LOGR quite a lot! I've never bought anything off eBay before so I hadn't seen his stuff before now, although I had heard of him from PS. Now I know why people talk about his stuff--it looks great! 4ever, I especially like the one you posted and love the price!

Gwen, I know you said you didn''t want engraving or milgraining, but this ring has always been one of favorites.
It''s not heavily engraved the way most vintage repros are engraved, it''s a very light scrolly etching. It looks very smooth. In any case, take a look. It''s 2.2mm and $190.- in 14K gold.

http://www.danforthdiamond.com/women''s-wedding-rings/3413/14K-White-Gold-2.2-mm-Engraved-Woman%27s-Wedding-Band/details.htm

I love this for your ring. and down the road, you can always try to polish it to a smooth ring instead and do away with the etching no?

gwen i ran into the same problem. you''ll find as you try different rings on that unless you can stand that there will be a gap between your ER and WB, it''s not easy!!! i tried on seriously everything under the sun and eventually went with a curved chevron band.

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-insert-wedding-band-is-here-pictures-yay.120713/

so my advice would be to see if you can go with a straight band first, and if you can, then your options are endless!

I vote for the plain band, too -- it would be very elegant and would show off your beautiful heirloom ring so nicely.

I tried to get these pictures as close together as I could so you could see the resemblance from top down and in the profile. It''s a heck of a ring for $330.-
