What is the best way to set diamonds that are well out of the colorless range? Not icky diamonds... but those marvelous OMCs, OMs and antique cushions. I know that warmer tones are more acceptable with old cuts, but what type of setting (metal, side stones, halos) helps to prevent them from appearing "dingey"? Do they ever have the stand-alone beauty to work as solitaires?

I love bright whites as much as anyone, but I admit, I''m attracted to the pricing of certain antique L and downs, CAPs and others.

Also - what''s the difference between light yellow and fancy light yellow?

Absolutely as I own one! Unfortunately I don''t have any decent pics, but I have an L modern round brilliant and I have it set in YG with a WG head, it looks lovely and faces up quite white ( it has some fluorescence which helps I think.) So I think it is a matter of taste as to how you set it, and the personality of the diamond, no hard and fast rules, do what you think is best for the individual diamond.

On the other hand, I''ve seen some set with quite white side stones in a white setting and it looks marvelous, as it shows off the rich color. I love lower color stones.

Who is the person here who has the oval warmer stone? It is also in her avitar. That has a great setting.

Thanks, Lo!

I was going to acknowledge that it''s, no doubt, a case by case (diamond by diamond) thing. If you ever do take some pics of your ring, I''d love to see them. In the mean time, I adore your powder puff bunny avatar!

You are most welcome!

The pics I have aren''t very good as I don''t have a decent camera, but meanwhile I am glad you are enjoying the fluffy bunny!

I don''t shop for diamonds in person much, so I haven''t seen a lot but.... I''ve seen a few darker OMCs set with white accents and thought it brought the stone''s glory down a bit.

What might less than icy-white (more homogenous) sides or halo do? Would it be all over dull, or a a nice, level playing field? Must be more of that case by case thing...

I just know I''m gonna go nutsykookoo what I really start shopping... ooooooo - I cant wait!

I have what''s probably a silly question: what does CAPS mean? I saw it on oldworlddiamonds.com and wondered and then you posted it here. I assume it has something to do with color but I have absolutely no idea what it means! Thanks!

As per this recent thread, "Cap color means CAPE, which is the equivalent of GIA color M-R, definitely a yellow tint."

Thanks Ninama! I''m off to check out that thread about that DELICIOUS diamond!

I think these types of stones look best in platinum and white gold antique inspired or genuinely antique settings. They look nice with engraving, filigree, or a little bit of micropave. I would stay away from minimalist plain settings in my personal opinion.

+1!

I have personally owned K, L, and M color diamonds and I do seeing them in vintage and new vintage settings. Just adds a little more something to the stone''s warm tint.

Thank you, everyone - and that you DG for directing me to yet another fascinating site - omg.

I have never seen a ring like this one (large baguette center stone) .... and I've searched.

Hear hear! I second that! I also like the same but in all yellow. It makes the diamond look like it''s not yellow so much as "aged" - which just seems so right with the antique cuts.

I wish there was a face on photo of this stone, but this is a leon that he has for sale on his site and he describes it as "off color". I''m not entirely sure what that means, but it looks great in a white halo!

You have a gorgeous stone and I agree with the others that a more vintage style looks lovely but then again the halo by Leon looked pretty darned good too!
