Hi everyone. I've been reading the forums as i'm shopping for an engagement ring. Great stuff here! I got some pics and video about 3 Oval Diamonds for show and tell! I got some comments from the provider and I got my own opinions, but Id like some more opinions as I don't have much experience. So what do you guy think?

Got a video too:

The order of the diamonds in the video when they are in the tray from left to right are 1.3ct F, SI, 1.3ct G VS and 1.5ct H VVS. When I am holding them together in natural daylight the order is flipped: 1.5ct H VVS, 1.3ct G VS and 1.3ct F SI. Lastly, when I show them individually its back in the same order as the beginning.

My eye goes towards the G/VS in the middle. The other two look good, but the G looks like it has the best light return in the center (no bowtie)

Thanks HappyNewLife. I like different stones in different lighting.

Any other discerning eyes want to put in a vote on my first diamond purchase?

I prefer the middle stone G/VS.

I prefer the 1.3 G most. Followed by the 1.3 F, although it has a wider bow-tie, it has slightly more flashes going on and off on both ends of the stone. I would eliminate the 1.5 H as it's just the most 'dead' to me.

What's the budget?

I like the chunky 1.3 F shape. But the 1.3 G is a really pretty stone too and looks larger due to its elongated shape compared to the F. If there is a significant price difference between the two go for the G for more bang for the buck. I am not a fan of H colored stones.

Thanks for the responses! I liked the G personally from the pics and vid, although it's a big more elongated than I would like.

@rockysalamander thanks for the links. I'll take a look.

@ac117 My budget is around $10k-ish for the diamond and setting.

@lambskin The rep at GOG says they like the 1.3F. The price difference between the 1.3F and 1.3G is 6.2%

Time to look up what mush is.

And what type of setting are we talking? You could pick up simple settings for a few hundred dollars but more intricate or brand name settings could be a lot more expensive so trying to figure out how much of the $10k to set aside for the setting.

OP
Did you check out the stones that Rocky recommended (August Vintage)?
From what I read, no bowtie, no mush......what could be better than that!
Good luck.

The more I look at the 1.3F the more I am convinced that I would chose that stone. The crown facets are nice and blingy and the 'mush' is not as pronounced on a rounder/chunkier oval. Unlike other ovals. I really don't see a mush factor on either the 1.3 stones. That stone rocks on its own. I would either do a simple solitaire or flank the stone with a pair of baguettes.

Yea I have been to that site as those opulence ovals have been recommended in other threads. When I checked last month they didn't have the caret I want and even now, they are out of the 1.2-1.5 caret range. 1.5+ is a bit pricy there. But they are beautiful ...

Just a word of caution.
You post above references a setting at BrilliantEarth, to the best of my knowledge they are not a PS vendor. However, Brilliantly Engaged is a PS vendor. They are separate companies. Names are similar, that is all.

Sorry, didn't know posting non-vendor links is bad etiquette. I couldn't rip the pic easily so i just posted the link. I'll be more careful.

You can name any vendor you want, just wanted to point out the difference in companies.

Planning on a simple solitare pave setting with the pave stones going around half way. Like this one:
https://www.brilliantearth.com/Luxe...-tw.)-White-Gold-BE164-3015399/?did=&is_tab=1 That's what the fiance liked.

You'll find a setting like that from many vendors, so that will give you a lot of flexibility among vendors.

If you really want an OO, give them a call/email. They likely have more in production and can let you know what is on the way. But, this is 1.2 when you round up the .02 carats.
