I think a good general start for So Cal would be $8,000 - $12,000, don't know where you live. I had a 1.23 RB and it was considered above average, so I think that is a nice size for a stone that has a little extra size. It cost about $11,000 in a B/M, so probably about $8,000 online. It wasn't an Ideal, but it was gorgeous. (Of course it depends on many different circumstances, what you can afford, where you live, etc, but that is what I think is a good budget. My husband and I started out too low, $3,200, for stone and ring, because we had no idea what diamonds cost, and we wasted a lot of good time trading up to what he thought was a good size for us.)DaveMutant|1335040669|3177310 said:I'm aware that this is a stupid question and that it warrants responses such as: how much can you afford, how much do you want to show your love etc. however, it'd be nice to get a rough estimate of how much people normally spend.
I understand that everyone's circumstances are different. I'm employed, earning a modest salary (not a super high salary tbh). I'd obviously love to be able to spend tens of thousands but realistically I don't think that's possible.
My question has mainly come from discussing how much to spend with my partner. She'd obviously love a huge rock, and I'd love to give her one, but at what point am I just spending to show off? I'd like to get something above average but I'd rather not keep pushing the budget higher and higher because I'm imagining that that's what people *should* spend.
How much is an average amount to spend on a diamond for an engagement ring?
$4k? $6k? $8k? $12k $More?
I am in love with Kenny's 1.34 Octavia, now THAT stone really makes a statment!
