How much bling from 30 pointers?

I am considering using .30ct diamonds as the sides in my three-stone reset of my 1.67ct diamond.

I wondering whether you think that .30ct diamonds give off a good amount of bling, or if it is more subtle at that diamond size. I am particularly interested in hearing from gals who have this size diamond as sides in a three-stone, if you are out there!

I love the proportions of this size diamond with my size center stone (a la Yssies ring, but smaller), but worry it will not have the blingage I would like. The alternative is to go up to closer to .45ct size.

I plan to purchase my first side stone soon, so any input is very helpful!

Thanks for you opinions!

Hi Dreamer

I am excited to hear the 3 stone may soon become a reality!!!

Anyway, my eternity ring is all 30 pointers. Whilst they are very blingy and can hold their own, I think given the size of your beauty, I feel 45's would be better suited. I think the proportions would be better. It would also ensure maximum impact without overpowering the centre stone.

Looking forward to the reset journey with you!!!! :wavey:

Hello Dreamer

I personally think with your size center stone, the .30s would not be too small at all but you may not get the visual appearance of bling that you are looking for. Yes, .40s would certainly be more blingy and size proportions would be great.

Yssie's ring was inspiration for my 3 stone in production now which has a 2.7 center with .50 sides.

What is your ring size?

I wear a size 6.

Bright ice I look forward to your photos! The proportions of your ring will be similar to what mine would look like with .45s, whereas Yssies is similar to what mine would look like with 30 pointers.

I am having a devil of a time finding anything IRL to try on, so your opinions help a lot.

I really feel your delima Dreamer. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut feelings.

I was in your same situation, found nothing IRL. Will post photos of mine maybe by the end of next week.

Good luck with your decision.

Dreamer- I find that putting the stones next to each other is the best way to tell which proportion is most pleasing.
Can you ask whoever is building the ring to photograph your center next to a pair of .30's and also next to a pair of .45's?

That is a good suggestion. I will ask. The trouble is seeing a photo like that and seeing it on the hand are such different things for me :blackeye: I am not sure it will really solve my dilemma. I may need or order a stone of one of the other size and then just return it if too big/small...

Firstly, YAY for going ahead with a ring a-la-Yssie! I remember talking to you about it a little while ago (I believe in the who's ring do you covet thread). Personally, I believe the .45 will give you the look you're going for. I don't have a 3 stoner, but my e-ring stone is 1.5 and I have a 0.42 thin bezel pendant that I can put beside the e-ring and take a picture for you as soon as I get home from work. Probably wouldn't give you the best look/idea, so hopefully someone has a better picture for you!

Dreamer - how exciting! Can't wait to hear what you decide. Personally, I would recommend going with the .45s. When I was looking for side stones for my 2.4 center, I went to a jewelry store and had them pull stones of different sizes. While I  yssie's ring, I decided that I wanted my side stones to be more side stone rather than accent stone. I thought I wanted yssie's proportions until I actually looked at it all together. Ultimately, it just wasn't what I wanted for my ring (although hers is gorgeous!) I also think you'll be more pleased with the sparkle from .45s instead. I have a .30 in a pendant, and it just doesn't have the same bling presence.

On a side note, I purchased my second side stone a few weeks back and my new three stone will be ready tomorrow. I should have it on Wed and will post a photo shoot on SMTB shortly thereafter. My side stones are .58 and .59 (~5.4mm) and the center is 2.4 (~8.65mm), so a ratio of 62% (which I'm guessing .45s would be with your 1.67). Hopefully that will help you decide what is best for you.

Don't know if you've seen this thread, but it might be helpful to you for various ratios. It's a 1.4 with .3 side stones. I think I've seen every three-stone ring thread on PS for all the searching I've done!

Are you planning on setting your side stones in a 3-prong or 4-prong setting? Also, remember, if the side stones tuck under the center stone you'll lose some of the visual size. Smaller stones set in a 4-prong setting also tend to look a little square so this may be something that you want to consider. Have you decided on a setting yet? :naughty: :naughty:

Here are some images of proportions... both have 1.7ct centers and .25 or .30ct sides. I have not found any with my size center and .45ct sides yet.

Oh, that would be fun to see! And since Yssie is away I will tell you now, when she won't hear :Up_to_something: that I might even just copy her setting too  Muahahaa! But I worry the intricate 6 prong basket will look too squishy with my "smaller" center stone.

I can't wait!! What type of setting did you get? Who made it for you, WF I assume? God it is going to look AMAZING!

And thanks for the comments about the .30 vs. .45s... my *only* concern is I still want the center to look much larger than the sides, I do not want the sides to in any way overshadow the center. BUT I want bling bling.

Yes, it will be a tucked style of setting, like the images I posted, especially the second. Three prongs on the side stones. Other than that, I don't know the style yet! This is still a long way off. I am going to aim to buy one side stone in the next couple of months, then another early next year, but the setting will be a lot longer off.

so did you decide on a setting style...that earlier thread had some beautiful settings-I especially remember a Durnell that I really liked!

No, not decided in the slightest. I figured that I would start with the diamonds and worry about that later. I plan to get the diamonds one at a time and go from there. This is a long term project, probably a year or more before all the pieces are in place!

I like the look of the 30 pointers too.

Yssie's ring was also the inspiration (nay, the blueprint) for my new 3 stone. If you're reading this yssie, then I hope you are flattered rather than annoyed at me! :errrr:

I also added my vote on your other thread and added my 2 cents there too! Sorry for repeating myself. Ask my kids, I do that a lot!

I think the .30's would work well with your main diamond. I prefer a 3 stone ring where the center diamond really stands out. Bigger side stones seem to 'shrink' the center stone and make the ring look too bulky IMO. I have ACA studs at a tad over .30 and I think they would make great side stones! Nice and bright and lots of fire.

Best of luck!!

Cachette :))

DD, I do not have a three stone of any proportion so take my advice with a grain of salt for sure. But I  the proportions of Yssie's three stone (actually I had never seen a three stone that literally took my breath away like hers did). So my vote would be for the .30s, I think at that proportion it really makes the center stone POP. And I think that setting is TDF! :cheeky: Selfish PSer that I am, I would love to see another version of that setting :rodent: IF my mom chooses to set her 2.72 AVOEC into a setting with two sidestones I will *push* her in this direction proportion-wise. If your reading this, love ya mom! :halo:
