My dh was at the Jersey shore yesterday and gas was between $1.95 to $1.97 per gallon.
WOW. Lowest I can remember it being ever. Of course my memory sucks so take that with a grain of salt. ;))

First, and last thing we do in Jersey is get gas. Much cheaper than here.

The closest gas station to us is a BP, and last week it was something like $3.40. I think they get away with it because of the sheer number of cabs that use it since there's so few gas stations in the city (Manhattan). We have maybe 15 - most of which are way uptown.

But the average in NYC is $2.58 according to this site:
http://www.newyorkgasprices.com/Prices_Nationally.aspx
Updated today and lists every state.

Yes and it totally depends on where in NJ you go for gas as I notice inland seems more expensive than by the coast. I guess the inexpensive gas prices in some areas partly makes up (a very small part lol) for the high property taxes and high electricity costs there. ::)

Today's price in suburban Chicago: $1.99

We used to be the most expensive in the country!

Down to $1.69 today.

I just filled up my car the other day {had 1/4 tank already} and it cost $20. $1.87/gal.{regular}--I live in the NY/NJ metro area.

eta: I drive an 8 year old Saturn.

+ back then they also check the oil and your tire pressure and received blue chip or green stamps all for 25 cents per gal...

I paid $1.74 yesterday in a small town in Illinois.

$2.06 in a northern Chicago 'burb yesterday. (The station kitty-corner in the intersection was $2.13 and there were cars there too... ?)

Last week the gas website (I can't remember what it's called right now) said the cheapest gas in downtown Chicago was $1.98 at a specific Costco. I didn't feel like driving over there so I went to what used to be a "cheap" station by my house (it's where all the cabbies fill up and you often have to wait though a couple of cars go get in there) and it was $2.69!!! If I had known the difference was 71 cents a gallon I would have driven over to Costco! Plus, then I could have had rotisserie chicken for dinner... :cheeky:

$1.96 in South Jersey yesterday.

We've seen 1.69 here in TX.

I'm still waiting for it to break below the 'magical' $4AUD/gallon - which works out to about $3.20 USD per gallon.

It's currently sitting around $3.50 USD per gallon, Australia is such an expensive place to live it's insane. As I mentioned previously, a packet of 20 cigarettes here in Australia is around $15-20 depending on brand and where you get them from, a decent meal at a restaurant will cost minimum $25. And don't expect to pay any less than $10 per lb for beef in the cheaper cuts. Forget about the expensive cuts, you've gotta be on 6 figures to afford it!!
