An imperial Malayian Garnet!!! Peachy Pink goodness! and I am always searching for the perfect aquamarine (my birthstone) Intense in colour, don''t mind a bit of green and must be a step cut stone

1) My 'nice' collection has about 30 stones
My total collection would be around the 70 mark

I haven't counted for a while and my new boxes are on order so everything is in stone papers and odd boxes at the moment.

2) My e-ring tsavorite is pretty high on my list.

Otherwise, current favourites are:
- 2.71ct mali garnet
- 2+ct spessartite (my scales are off being fixed so I don't know the weight as I bought it off a dealer in Sri Lanka and we only had a set of handheld scales and weights available - I had to use them when I discovered my horribly expensive electronic set wouldn't calibrate properly

) - I'm guessing it's around 2.60ct)
- 2.10ct unheated blue sapphire - another find in SL. The silk in the stone is incredible and the colour is extremely pretty. My heart beat faster when I opened the paper and still does everytime I look at it.

3) - Top quality Malaia Garnet - it has to be an exact specific shade and have the inclusions nicely placed.
- A set of demantoids showing full colour range
- A greener mali
- A yellow grossular

Neat thread Lass!

I have three nice stones and two crummy ones.
Dan Stair blue spinel
Dan Stair torumaline
Rutilated quarts sphere
Ebay amethyst (came free with topaz)
Ebay topaz
I also have several set moonstones of varying quality, but with great personality.


My favorite is still the spinel, I''m working hard at getting it set, but just changed jobs to cash is on the tight side. I just got the quartz, and the rutiles are a beautiful gold color, so I play with that a bit as well.

What''s next? I bought a setting that will need a large lozenge-shaped center, I''m thinking aqua probably, or topaz. I''m also on the lookout for a nice piece of labradorite. A long term goal is a sapphire, but I''m waiting for the right one.

I divide my collection into 3.

The first has stones I use for my hobby (amateur jeweller workiing in silver). These are cheaper stones that won´t break my heart if something should happen to them.

The second has stones that I will set myself for myself (or as a special gift) with great care. These are much nicer, and mainly tourmalines, a couple of garnets, opals, etc.

The third is the apple of my eyes. These are my dear stones, that I will send out to specialist setter some day. There is a very nice sphene, a pink spinel, three spess, a pair of tanzanite (melee size, unfortunately, but beautiful color) a chamaleon diamond (tiny!) and a Russian demantoid.

Right now, my favourite is a spess cut in a Jeff Graham design. The stone isn´t very clear at all (Lelliondo material, with an ugly dark inclusion as well) but the colour and sparkle hide everything. I love the shape and unusual facet pattern.

All the stones in my collection are set since I seem to have a problem keeping loose stones for any length of time.

I have to say it''s a tie for my favorite between my 1.91ct unheated color change sapphire and my 1.27 ct Tsavorite. I am in love with the color on both.

- Barry Bridgestock 1.18 ct. green tourmaline (round) - already set
- Dan Stair 0.82 ct. blue sapphire (round)
- Jeff White 4.33 ct. morganite (asscher)
- Jeff White 2.05 ct. pink tourmaline (cushion)
- Jeff White 1.43 ct. blue-green tourmaline (cushion)
- Opal - have no idea what the stats are

2) Current favorite: JW blue-green tourmaline - it's one of my favorite colors, and looks fantastic in daylight

3) I'd like to add an amethyst (I'm getting one for my mom now, but later another one for myself, since it's my birthstone). Something bright and yellow - maybe a tourmaline? A pale blue spinel. An aqua (asscher cut please

). And I'm sure there are more - my long-term goals are a mint garnet, and a pair of blue sapphires. These might have to wait a bit though - I'm planning on setting the blue-green tourmaline soonish, and resetting the opal

Oh crikey I sooooooooooooo need therapy ................ please bear in mind that I''ve been collecting for a while when you read this! Guestimates as follows:

(1) Stats
Loose gemstones - around 200 (ish) - Like Pandora I have "nice" of around 70 and "not so great but still ok" of about 130
Rings (with gemstones or diamonds) - around 150 (ish)
Pendants (with gemstones or diamonds) - around 50 (ish)
Earrings (with gemstones or diamonds) - no idea but I''ve only got two ears so I''ve certainly got too many.

(2) What would I like to add to the collection?
I really want a purple sapphire - well cut with a deep rich purple colour. A Tsavorite of around 2-3ct. Tons of great looking but reasonable settings so I can set some of the loose stones. Finally I want to find my friend (who has been looking for 3 years) a really really good colour change sapphire that shifts from purple (not blue) to pink.

(3) Favourites?
I have 3 rings that are definite favourites. (1) My 3ct Alexandrite ring that blew me away when I bought it (2) an inherited Columbian Emerald ring that''s almost eye clean (3) a 6ct Ruby marquise because it was my first "big" purchase.

Around 400 or so. My favorites are my alexandrites, and my certified unheated mogok ruby. I''m not counting my fancy diamonds which are probably neck and neck with my alexandrites. close third place are sapphires. Also have a very odd gem that is orangy yellow the gemologist id''d as a serpentine! It''s portuguese cut, and loupe clean, but I have yet to find out any solid information on it. I have several kinds of garnet that are nice, tsavorite, etc.

I have around 30 loose stones, mostly cheaper types or small, not worth setting but fun to look at and play with.

My best stones are a 7ct kunzite and a 6ct blue/green aqua, maybe someday I''ll set them, but right now they''re too big for my lifestyle.

I would love to get a honey zircon, and a unique color or bi-color sapphire. The other item on my wish list will have to wait until the baby decides to arrive. I plan on making myself a nice ring with the baby''s birth stone, which will either be a garnet or amethyst. He''s due February 10th, so it should be amethyst, in which case I want to find a stone from the Four Peaks mine, I live in Phoenix so it''d be neat to have a stone from this area.

Total loose? Probably around 50 or so, mostly sapphires (pinks and blues), and garnets (spess and tsav). I will probably set a few of them, but I think the setting bug has kind of tapped me out recently.

My favourite current unset is my Gary Braun Asscher Aqua that I''ll be setting with WF eventually.

I only have a few pendants and earrings, the lions share of my fave gems are set in rings.

So far I got 10 stones, 2 of them set (my garnets!), and 1 more stone on the way (hopefully tomorrow!).

My favorite? Definitely my garnet in my pendant but close second is my new concave cut flower shaped blue Topaz from Richard H

I have a lot of loose gems, again too many to count, and a ton of rings. Right now I'm immensely enjoying my green and pink diamond ring which I wish I could sleep with if I could sleep with my eyes open all night staring at it. I even wore it grocery shopping yesterday at Costco - trying to be a glamourous domestic godess I guess. I just can't take it off right now.

I also love my recent rubellite tourmaline that glows in all light sources a bright stop light magenta red. It even glows in the dark. I'm also immensely enjoying Gene's Afghan mint tourmaline he recently cut for me. That stone actually turns a radioactive color in the shade!! It goes from green to a seafoam blue in various slight sources - cool stone!

Not enough.

I have a dish full of gems that I play with but probably would never mount in jewelry.

I have a few gemstones in cases but don''t have any plans for them. They are a 5mm round pink sapphire, a 5mm round blue zircon, a 6 x 4 oval tanzanite, a pair of 5mm square garnets, a pair of 5mm heart rhodolites, a 5 x 7 spessartite.
