How long should it take for a virtual stone to return to inventory?

I''m getting a bit nervous and frustrated b/c we''ve been waiting to exchange the WF stone we just bought to another one I found in their virtual inventory. The diamond was out with another vendor when I first asked about it, but the dealer said it was on it''s way back and would let WF know when it arrived and hold it for us. Well, that was 1.5 weeks ago now and I''m wondering if it should really be taking this long for them to receive the stone and process it back in?

WF has been good about checking in with the dealer almost every day since the end of last week, but the last update they gave me (Wednesday) was that the dealer said they "still don''t know the status yet" and to check back again the next morning. What exactly could that mean?

Our WF rep told us before that sometimes an online vendor will decide to purchase a virtual stone into and bring it into their inventory instead of returning it to the dealer. But I would assume that if the dealer knows someone else is interested, they would want to hold on to it and potentially make a bigger profit. And even if it is the case that someone else (or the vendor) is interested, wouldn''t you think they would at least inform WF of that??

Argh...we''re getting anxious to finalize the stone so we can finally get moving on the setting. I wish someone would just give us a clear idea of what''s going on so we can at least decide whether to keep the stone we have now or not and move on!

We can''t know for sure what is causing the delay but I''d guess someone is viewing the stone and is still in their "return period". Every vendor has different return times - anywhere from 7 to 30 days. If this is the case, the dealer is in limbo with this stone until the vendor and/or the client decide to keep or return the stone to the dealor. Sorry that''s not much help. Stay positive. Everything will work out in the end.

Thanks, secondhand.

I guess the strange thing is that the stone was definitely *on it''s way back* to the dealer as the customer decided not to purchase. So unless the vendor decided to show it to another client, which I guess could have been a possibility, I don''t understand why the delay/vague status.

I guess I just wish I knew more definitively what''s going on rather than having to wait and play guessing games...sigh

Oh, nevermind! WF just contacted me to say that the dealer has the stone and is ready to send to WF. Yay!! I''m so excited that we can finally move forward now. Will keep you guys posted on the final ring!

Yay!! See, good things do happen to those who wait!

Bad news from WF today

Apparently they called the dealer this morning to ask where the package was since they didn''t see anything on its way to them from the dealer. The dealer told them apparently they had made a mistake last week and the stone actually was sold to someone else!!

So after two weeks of waiting and hoping, the diamond is no longer available. I just can''t believe the dealer wasn''t more upfront about what was going on from the beginning...to get our hopes up like that only to then say "Oh, sorry, we made a mistake. It''s been sold to someone else."

Sigh...so I guess the search continues. Or, we just decide to keep the stone we have and maybe think about making a bigger upgrade in the future....

Aw, I''m sorry newbie. That''s really crumby of that dealer...Does WF not have anything in stock you''re interested in?

Well, they told me that they''re getting in a new supply of stones this week and would let me know the specs as soon as they have them. I haven''t seen anything so far, though, that fits what I''m looking for. Well, actually, I did just find another virtual stone that''s close to the one we "lost" but the cert wasn''t available, so I''m waiting to hear if they can get the info for me so that I can see where the inclusions are and the crown/pavilion angles.

We do actually already have a stone in hand from WF (see previous thread) that is a beautiful diamond. But when I compared it to the other one, something about the second stone just got me every time so I was really hoping to be able to switch.

The only thing about the one we have is that after seeing the other one, I slightly prefer a bigger table (sometime around 56% vs 54%) and would like something with a diameter closer to 7mm vs 6.85. I know it’s not a HUGE difference, but I feel like I can visually pick up on the differences and since the stone isn’t set yet, better to do the mini upgrade now I guess and be happy with it for a longer period before perhaps doing a bigger upgrade down the road?

6.85 to 7.0 is definitely noticable, so I can''t blame ya for wanting the bigger. I also prefer my 56 table to a previous stone I had with a 54, so again, I get it.

I personally would wait for the new batch to come in. I''m certain there will be some great ones, "hot off the press" for you to choose from.

I know that you set your search limits to G but I thought you might want to consider this H stone. I have had a well cut G and a well cut H and I could really not see any difference. I never saw the stones unmounted or at the same time so that may be why I was as pleased with the H as the G. It just depends on your color sensitivity. With the wire discount, this diamond would be around $8500. It has your desired table size as well as reaching the 7 mm size.

It''s just an alternative I thought I would put out there for you to consider. Good luck in your search!

Ditto! It is worth waiting for the right stone! I personally would favor an ACA or Expert Selection stone that WF has cut over a virtual inventory one.
