how hard is it to add a surprise stone after the fact?

Im thinking that I want to have some surprise stones on the inside of my wedding band. I would maybe have his and my birthstone- but i would for sure want one for our daughter. Thing is we would probably want to have another child down the line, and at that time I would want to add another one. Is that something a goldsmith can do after the ring is already finished or would I have to get a whole new ring... Im a bit sentimental and I dont think i would want to get a whole new one.

I'll tell you what people around here do for children...they get an additional ring (or other piece of jewelry) to commemorate each one! I am not sure you'd want to weaken your ring by adding multiple holes inside the shank (of course, I have no idea how wide it is). Plus, gunk (soap, lotion, dirt) will gather in there, and I really personally prefer gemstones that show! But I am sure anything can be done if you really want it!

the short answer is YES, they can be added after the fact. But, I agree 4 may be too many. What about your and your DH's inside and stackers for the children?

I'm in favour of Motownmama's idea - stackers for each of the children you may have. Perhaps keep the WB as just between you and DH with your stones inside (if they are already there) and then new jewels for any children you may have. OR... get a set of the IDJ jackets and have studs made with children's birthstones! If you're lucky, you can have all April babies - DIAMONDS!!! :wink2:

There's a number of physical considerations.
How wide is the wedding band, and it it domed? The depth of the stones set inside is a consideration- so you'll need to have enough metal to set them into
