How do you measure the depth with calipers?

Do you just do the stone from top to bottom like this picture?

Or am I supposed to angle it and just measure from the girdle part down?

Or something else?

I’m trying to get a simple setting and give them the measurements for it.

Thank you for the confirmation! The stone in the pic is a pink trillion tourmaline (on LT but nobody wants to buy lol). It is not the one that I am using - I just plucked this one as an example as it’s easier to grip. The one I’m setting is green tourmaline
