I''d like to know when girdle percent is listed is it the average or largest measurement of the girdle?

Also don''t understand what percentages correspond to thin, medium, slightly thick, thick, etc.

Any one have a mapping of % to thin, medium etc.? Thanks.

Hi Dmus,

I found this info for you via the PS Advanced Tutorial :

"In USA girdle thickness of rounded diamonds were always measured at the thinnest part or ''valley''. In Europe the girdle is measured at the main or bezel facet junction, which is normally 1.6 or 1.7% thicker than the valley. The new AGS system now measures girdle thickness at the thick part."
&
"The girdle is the edge of the diamond and is quoted in either words (Thin, Thick etc) or as a percentage of the diameter (e.g. thin = .6% or thick = 3.0%)."

If you would like to know more ... Click here to go to the "girdle" info detailed in the Advanced Tutorial.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the help.

I''m quickly becoming a diamond addict and it''s scary! I was absolutely mesmerized by GOG article on painted and dug girdles. Sick huh?

You are MOST welcome, Dave!

Diamonds and jewelry ARE fascinating. There is just so much to know and the more you learn, the more you want to learn.
Before PS, I swear I used to have a life ... now, my life is diamonds and PS.
