Hello all,
New here, but man am I glad I found PS. I had no idea what I was doing when I started looking for a diamond engagement ring just a few days ago. So a big thanks for all the info that has already been provided here.

I am looking for a 1-ish carat diamond, and I NEEED it to shine like the sun! :wink2:
I have been looking in the D-F color range, and right around vs2 clarity... and I want the best cut possible, like ideal++

I think i have narrowed my choices down to one of these 3 possibly, and I would love to hear any opinions and criticisms on them... and I am always open to other suggestions.

I really like the 1.04 carat (the second link), but what is up with the blue on the left side? Is that just lighting or is it something from the diamond itself? I am also wondering how much of a difference there is in cut between the ACA hearts and arrows (the first 2) and the one from James Allen which says only that it is hearts and arrows ideal...

Oh and I am most likely going to be using one of these two rings in platinum:

Thanks for any help at all :twirl:

They all look lovely and all show v. nice hearts. Strange colours are just reflections during photography, maybe the photographer was wearing a blue shirt or hat 8)

Personally, I would avoid the first one because the inclusions are right in the centre and are showing in the images.

On the second one, I think it looks bluish because of the lighting conditions. Just to be certain though, I think you should check with WF directly and reconfirm. They may help clear any doubts by taking another photo for you.

As for JA vs WF, I had the same query but decided to go with WF because they put up higher res photos which makes assessing the diamonds easier. Plus, I have had very good sales experience with them.

Thanks for some quick responses!

I had the same feeling that the blue was just a reflection in that picture, I will definitely ask for another picture to be sure.

I am also leaning more towards WF over JA right now, although they both seem really nice.

 Hmm  Well I have been reading around some more and I am considering now maybe dropping clarity from Vs2 to Si1, it seems like many around here recommend doing that if I want to increase carat size a bit and keep my budget (about $8,000 for rock).

Something like this one:

My concern is that I really want this diamond to sparkle and shine, especially in the type of setting I am considering which has the diamond very exposed on many sides. I wont be able to hide much of it.

Any thoughts on whether or not to stick with 1 carat and Vs2 or go for something bigger like 1.15-1.2 with S1? I still want to stay in the colorless range and with H&A ideal cut.
Can the 1.166 carat Si1 diamond be sparkly and shiny from ALL angles, or even compare to the couple of Vs2's I linked earlier?

Thanks,
Brandon

I think you need to ask WhiteFlash about that, only they are in position to answer your question. However I have some small SI1 stone from WF that I can't see the inclusion from any side, but again, they are small, only 0.44-0.45ct so for big stone like your I don't know. My e-ring is SI2, it has one inclusion that can be covered under prong, after covering it is also very clean, I can inspect it in every angle and can not see any thing.

I think if the tightest cut is what you're after, that last F SI1 is my pick. It looks to be eyeclean (I'd make sure your definition matches theirs.) And it's big! The setting is gorgeous. I would want to find out if there would be any significant visible inclusions from the side with the somewhat open setting.

An SI1 wouldn't bother me in the least, but has your girlfriend expressed any preferences?

The JA stone looks great, too, and you could request an idealscope image. I've recently acquired an E slighty under a carat and the color really does knock your socks off, if you prize that C of the 4C's. But F is no slouch. Ok, I'm not helping, I digress. I definitely prefer the WF setting, though.

ChloeLe- That is promising to hear about the Si2 ring, I have just sent off an email to WF asking for some more photos of a few of these stones.

Siamese Kitty- She has not expressed any opinion about it, and I am trying to keep the whole thing a complete surprise, but I am positive she would prefer a bit larger carat. If it were for me I would want better clarity, but it's not! I also love the WF setting, and I am pretty sure that is the one I will end up with. I really want the diamond to be visible all the way around as much as possible and that setting does it very nicely. Also her name starts with a V and the sides holding the diamond look exactly like V's! I know she is going to  love  that part alone.

Thanks for all the input so far, I'll be back tomorrow with updates from WF hopefully. :wavey:

Update-

After talking with Traci at WF about the Si1 stone, I have decided to purchase it!
She claims it is eye clean from top and sides, and thinks it will look great in the Katie pave setting I have picked out with the sides of the diamond exposed.

Now I normally wouldn't have been so keen to trust the word of a salesperson, but it is reassuring to read here on PS about how honest and helpful others have found them. And after expressing my concerns with the setting, she was helpful and reassuring that it would be exactly what I wanted.

Sooooo, this is it! :appl:

Any and all input is welcomed

YAY! :appl: I think this was a great choice-she's going to flip when she sees it! Please come back with pictures if you can.

Good luck!

You sure can trust Traci, she is the one that helped me to choose my 2 D SI1 that are totally totally eye clean!

P/S: You have to post the picture of your ring when WF sent you!

I absolutely cant wait to post some pictures... I would lo[*]ve to hear any other opinions on this stone/setting as well!

:appl: Looking forward to pics! You made a great choice!
