i have two 1.25 ct an oval and a round then i have a 4.6ct marquise.. but the 1.25ct is a nice size on my hand

I got married last year and a had 1.3 H VS1 but felt it was too small for my hand. Recently upgraded to a 1.7 carat H VS1 with med flour (might be my forever diamond). I think it all depends on your finger size. Smaller hands can get away with smaller diamonds. I have size 7.5 finger.

"J" 1.8 ct round....this will be a forever stone...just hopefully not my forever e ring.

ETA: I got engaged in February and the DSS has REALLY set in now T.T

This is a very odd poll. Why the very large upper and lower ranges and the specificity at .75-1.00?
Is the objective to find out how common stones in this specific size range are on PS?

I am guessing the poster is talking in relation to her own experience ( she has another thread asking about 0.9 and really wanting to hit 1 carat) and trying to figure out where she is on the spectrum in terms of her wants versus what others have.

The OP joined only two days ago and is probably not aware that many here wear much heavier diamonds.
I'm sure in the vast majority of the world one rarely sees diamonds over a carat.
PS is a microcosm of honkers.

What is DSS? =)2

DSS is diamond shrinkage syndrome.
When you get your diamond it looks larger than after you've worn it a while.

My first was around 0.20 ct.
Then a 0.83 ct.
Then a 2.2 ct.
Now a 1.5 ct ... so I guess I got DES, diamond expansion syndrome.

Oh, I'm experiencing DSS hardcore right now! Looking for an upgrade still (despite amazing advice from PSers!):lol-2:

Very valid. Though I imagine that looking at everyone's beautiful rings up close and personal makes it very difficult to get a good size gauge. For me it was really when I discovered the real life perspective page that I was able to appreciate size differences, otherwise my assumption was that everyone owned 3-5 ct rings (even when I was looking at some 1-2cts.

I've linked it below in case that's what OP is looking for:

I play hide the ring which alleviates the problem for a week or so....right after dinner and before i do dishes I'll put my ring away and wear my old promise ring to bed. When I get up and put my e-ring back on it's the biggest thing on earth.

Thank you very much!

1.5 ct pear shaped diamond, E, VVS2.

HI:

What ER?

cheers--Sharon

1.5 MRB, J, VS2

I don’t have DSS... probably because my ring size is 4. When I 1st put it on my finger I was like - uh oh... maybe too big? But I got over that quick :)

1.11
2.57
3.04

I’m good now. Just not focusing on erings. DSS goes away quickly that way.

@Kbell , I have size 3 fingers and when I first got my 1.5 RB I thought it was a nice size...then DSS set in real quick and it got upgraded to a 3.02.

Now (years later) I have my eye on a 5+ ct EC. I feel as though the older I am the more I find big stones attractive. I blame it on eyesight ;)2

Mine is a 1.82 ct Square EC , L VVS2 shown in my picture.

First was 1.05 F/VS2

Upgraded to 1.53 E/VS2

After 2 months DSS is already setting in

Still have a couple
.75 E-I1 marquise now in a pendant
1.50 F-VS1 marquise now in a 90s RHR with 24 Princess cuts
2.05 D-VS2 Oval traded in locally for a
3.01 F-SI1 Pear
I go smaller as I got older :lol-2:
.80 Tiffany Fancy Yellow cushion (overpriced but I have that blue box  )
2.21 F-SI1 CBI (will be a 3-stone ring with two .53 F-VS1/2 CBI diamonds in January)
2.79 F-VS1 CBI

There should be a DSS support group here. It sucks, LOL!

I agree, or we could all chip in get a doorknob honker to time share :lol::lol:.

Are you already acclimated to your new amazing rock??? :eek2::eek2::eek2:
There is no hope for the rest of us if you are ;)2;)2.

First ring: just under 1/2 carat oval, D, Si1

Second ring (I bought this one so does it count?): 1 carat, H, EC VS1 (I believe...)

3.28 center, VS1, color L. 4 Side stones .25 each, VS1, color H.

For the record, this isn’t my first time around.

Yes! I have a real problem. Not to say the ring isn't enough for me - I love it. But it went from "HOLY SHI*, is this too big?" to "I could totally deal with 5 carats" overnight (not that I will upgrade again - wife would kill me).

Mine is 1.3 carat / H Color / eye clean SI1 Clarity /GIA triple excellent with .26 ctw of side diamonds. It is set on a 2mm platinum setting.

Hoping I don't experience DSS as I'm sentimental and don't want to upgrade. My ring is around average size where I live. A lot of people have rings of 2 carats or more with very large diamond eternity bands as well. Anyway, I love to come on here to PS and look at the gorgeous rings of all sizes and shapes! :kiss2:

I would like to get a general idea of big everyone's engagement is on here.
If you can post your color, and clarity as well it would be fantastic.
Thanks!

For daily wear, something around the 7mm RB size is big enough to be "big" in most places where everyone doesn't wear a 2ct diamond. And it used to be that going from 1ct up to 1.25ct was only about a 10% increase in price, so it made sense to go for 1.2 or 1.25 instead of 1ct if your budget allowed it.

My engagement ring from my marriage was an older cut RB, G VVS1, .78 ct iirc, and 5.8mm diameter. Bought before the Internet, haha.

When i divorced, I gave that ring back to him. I bought a 1.06ct (I think) uncerted H I1 that is between 6.3 and 6.4mm. It's a nicely cut stone, and looks very white from all angles. The I1 grade doesn't bother me, and the inclusions are a smattering of very small dark inclusions in one tight group, out toward the girdle. I can hardly see them without a loupe. They are more visible from the underside of the diamond, but who cares. I bought it at a local estate jeweler / pawn shop that everyone in town went to to get bang for the buck. I was aware of PS, but hesitated to spend say, $6000 for a great 1ct online, when I could get this good-enough diamond locally for leas than half that.

My other daily-wear ring is another old uncerted diamond, light yellow tint in the J/K range, and it looks great in yellow gold. It's .8ct and around 6mm diameter. Bought secondhand at a small town store and I got the mounting for it on ebay.

I have other diamonds, larger ones that are AGS 000 and H&A. I live in a very small town, and I'm just not wearing my best diamonds daily the way I would be if I lived in a more prosperous area.
